I do chuckle that people pull random figures like 65k a year out of the air for Cams salary

If these people are so in the know, would like to see them list the nIx squad and each of their respective salaries

If you can figure out cams salary in an amateur league then in a pro league with a salary cap should be piss easy

Auckland will rise once more

Well, it's not as if it's difficult to figure out what some of the Nix players earn/have earned. And how much some of the 'amateur' players get paid in the Handy Prem is hardly a state secret as well.

According to 'those in the know' Payne was pocketing 3k per week captaining Eastern Subs. Nice.

Fudge me.  Amateur football, 3k a week? Chuck in talk City players have been pulling $100k as well. All to polish up a pile of personal egos.

It's been stated for decades but at some stage the deck of cards (or row of machines) funding this is going to collapse and it's going to be hugely embarrassing for the game.

nelfoos said he is earning similar money in Auckland and the A-League minimum is 65k.  It's not rocket science.

Well as well as ego polishing there is the 700k prize for coming first to consider, don't forget.

What the fudging fudge?!? Even if that was only during National League season that's getting towards A-League wages.

No wonder our top domestic footballers don't think it's worth while trying out for a professional gig - and no wonder half of them wouldn't be fussed if NZ's only (openly) pro club went under. But they shouldn't sneer at the Nix and those who do chase the dream.

But to forestall moderator action: let's move "Shamateurism in NZ Football" to its own thread.

Why do you think this is something that is so hard to figure out? It's not like we're talking about the nuclear codes or anything.

Ok, this is way off topic. I'm going to hide any more posts on NZ players and their wages unless it is really Nix related. Doloras has kindly started a thread to discuss wages here https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/regional-...

All topics now should be on possible transfers into the Nix.

In some ways it is quite good this is out in the open. Maybe there will be less bagging the Phoenix for not signing locals now people are aware it's not as simple as that.

I think Payne is a real shame as when I've seen him play he strikes me as someone that could still make a go as a professional footballer and would be an asset to the Phoenix squad but it is what it is.

If Rudan saw it your way News, he'd convince Payne too. That's how the professional game works is it not? Isn't it also why Herbert failed to land Vicilich?

Maybe in terms of attracting local talent (ACFC, Ole) it’s about the showcase provided. Nix shop window is A league. ACFC have a crack at a bigger stage than A league provides. So far, Ole have gambled on a bigger league than A league acting as a showcase for the likes of Thomas, Boyd, Collier, Lissette. Just a thought.

Handy Prem and OFC Champions League are a bigger stage?

When I saw the news about Tratt, I was excited. Great player!
Then I thought about it.
Then I remembered that he left due to family/personal circumstances?
If he comes back, great! Take him in a heartbeat.

Also, if you don't play Cacace at leftback, where do you play him?

Selective editing there el Grap. Club World Cup, Eredivise, Portugal liga, MLS (not so much Sweden div 2) definitely are.

Ryan de Vries would be the one that proves the rule (including CWC)

Hmmm, you've missed what I was aiming at. The point is, the stage for ACFC next season will be the Handy Prem and OFC Champions League - no CWC for them. So we'll see if the 'bigger stage' argument stacks up.

I know a former ACFC player who was on 83k plus CWC guarantee bonus of 25k plus he could earn in the off season in Aussie NPL - Nix offered him 55k

Wonder if loss of CWC spot will affect ACFC player wages going forward.

Declan and Ramon are soul mates, so helps explain why ACFC get Ole grads.

See reluctance of Ole to have players move to the Nix, is more Ole’s view of the A League as a whole than just setup of NZ’s sole professional team. Be interesting to see if Declan spouts any views on Rudan coaching abilities.

I was under the impression that Vicelich - like Danny Hay - just didn't want to live in Welly.

Right, gotcha. My argument was based on recent history, as opposed to this year. If any TW players pick up a Nix contract, Jose will be looking to replace. Could any ACFC players be an option for CWC; or tied to ACFC?

Are Wellington trialling any local strikers, if not maybe they could look at someone like Jordan Murray from Apia Leichhardt as a backup in the position?

Apia are dominating the NSW NPL again this season, have by far the best goal difference, my team Blacktown City are lagging well behind.

Apia are playing in the FFA cup next week, not sure if their match is being covered but I assume the gaffer will be looking at them  for any possible squad players.

Seems he chose to turn down a move too Hearts in Scotland last season, so kinda interesting he may decided to come here instead

Legia Warsaw may lose the player. Michał Kopczyński is very close to the transfer to New Zealand's Wellington Phoenix - says on Twitter Małgorzata Chłopaś, a journalist who worked, among others, on the Legia.com portal.

On Thursday, the departure is planned, Michał Kopczyński is to be loaned out for a year. Wellington Phoenix is a team from New Zealand that is appearing in the Australian league.

Kopczyński is a graduate of Legia Warsaw . The 26-year-old was one of the basic players when the coach of the Warsaw residents was Besnik Hasi and later Jacek Magiera. With time, his position in the team began to decline.

Recently, he was not even in the match squad for an away meeting with Cork City in the Champions League qualifiers.

In the last season, Kopczyński played in 25 meetings of the first team of Legia Warsaw . At that time he did not score any goals and scored one assignment.

I definitely hope Rudan picks out a few of his favourite NPL players to fill our the squad, he’ll have much more knowledge on them  than on Kiwi players

If you are calling Boyd an Ole product for the two minutes he went there, then it was the Nix that put him 'in the shop window' to get an overseas contract (albeit an average one - but better than the usual swedish 3rd tier).

He pretty much said in an online interview that the Hearts offer was too low.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Wellington Phoenix are proud to announce the signing of Polish goalkeeper, Filip Kurto, from Dutch side Roda JC Kerkrade.

The 6’ 3’’, 27-year-old began his career in his native country of Poland at Wisla Kraków, one of Poland’s most successful clubs.

Kurto also represented his country right through to the U-21s, before signing for Dutch Eredivisie side, Roda JC in 2012.

He enjoyed three successful seasons at the top of Dutch football including helping Roda JC to remain in the Dutch premier division.

Filip couldn’t wait to sign for the Wellington Phoenix, citing the Hyundai A-League as a great place to push on and fulfil his potential.

‘‘I have known about the A-League for a while, and when I was told there was interest, I felt this offer came at the perfect time for me.

‘‘The Manager has a real enthusiasm and passion to win and he stressed to me that he wants players who will give everything for the club.

‘’That’s the way I play, so that is what brought me here.’’

Head Coach, Mark Rudan signals this as a fantastic signing, seeing him as a top-class goalkeeper that can compete at the very highest level.

‘‘We have known about him for some time, he has all the attributes to be one of the best goalkeepers in the A-League.

“We look forward to him starting with the group and showing what he’s capable of.’’

Kurto is the second new signing for the Phoenix, after Steven Taylor signed from Peterborough United last week.
