There is no way our players will be feeling tired. Have we all forgotten what winning does for the invigoration?

Picking Tratty to score again.

Victory players looked pretty damn tired and they were on a SIX game winning streak

Is being an EPL winner equivalent to receiving a medal?

This weeks episode of #PhoenixCity is out now!

The pod chat about other podcasts, some football, Brett Angell's explosion of anger, some more football, and then about some overseas footballers. Not sure why you'd want to listen, but here it is anyway.

I miss them in the NRL and was also annoyed when Illawara merged with St George and they lost the Gold CoaXt Seagulls. But I digress...?

I have those little anthropomorphic mascot figurines for the Bears and St George that were big in the 80's/90's. I think we should release a Ernie the Fighting Chicken version.

New podcast out!

The pod suffer from mild heat exhaustion as they talk about the match in Adelaide that should never have been played, as well as how it'll affect the Phoenix this weekend in New Plymouth. Naughty boy Brett Angell has been suspended, and the SSP continues without him. TeeDubs jump ahead of an absent Auckland City to take top spot on the table.

Need to fill in the time after work and before the Nix kick off? Listen to the latest episode of #PhoenixCity at yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts!

The pod returns from a gruelling trip to New Plymouth, and the Nix returned empty handed. Can they perform a smash and grab against seemingly invincible Sydney FC? Meanwhile it's heating up in the SS Prem with 4 rounds to go, there's 6 teams in contention to win the league!

Good pod as always chaps, weird listening to half of it after the start of this round but that's my poor choice of pausing.

Quick nit pick, I did object to your attitudes to ignorance for calling Berisha that word.  Yea saying it unacceptable but to indicate it was impossible to think that he may not have known it was impossible is quite short sighted.

So for context you said its where Berisha is from (Albania) in which Romani people are a tiny minority (0.3%).  So its not like Albanian people and Romani are synonymous.

Also Gypsy is a racist term for Romani (to some according to Wikipedia) but Gypsy also refers to the Irish wanderers (e.g Tyson Fury,

Brad Pitt in Snatch, and every "gypsy Fair" in NZ).  Not a racist term for the latter.

When I looked on Berisha's Facebook page I couldn't see anything about his race being Romani either.

The reason I say all of the above (Berisha can obviously publish what he wants about himself etc.) is because it is feasible to me that someone told him a way to get under Berisha's skin.  If he did some quick Google-Fu and found nothing linking Berisha to the ethnicity of Romani, he may think its referring to the Irish Travelers version, and may not even think its remotely racist.

Does that make it OK?  Of course not.  If its racially offensive to Berisha then he obviously deserves a punishment.

I just object to the idea its not possible for him to have used it ignorantly.  I mean you guys drop the C bombs left right and center.  If today someone decides the C Bomb is grossly offensive to women, and all of your jobs got terminated, or stood down for a year form your jobs because all of your employers decided to stamp out sexism.  Would you feel as happy as you do about the idea of him being stood down for a year?

Just my thoughts, you can ignore them if you wish.

Just to chuck my 2c back on this (and prefaced by the fact I haven't had a chance to listen back over this episode yet so I can't remember exactly what was said).

I don't think any of us would disagree there are many people out there that don't know the gravity of that term and could simply plead ignorance so education on that front is always a good thing.

I however would seriously question that Bouzanis in particular didn't know exactly he was doing.  I think it's pretty clear given his previous run ins with Bersart that he looked to make a very pointed comment and then has tried to back pedal after he got caught.

If as you suggest someone else "told him it as a way to get under his skin" then it's really on him to find out exactly why it would land before repeating it.

But that is only my opinion and nothing more than conjecture.

Totally, I'm not defending him because I have no idea about the history of the situation.  It's anyone's guess whats actually going on under his skin.

I just get quite anti the extreme, he had to know it was racist because I know its racist attitude.  He may be a totally racist dick, I don't know what was or wasn't going through Bouzanis's head when he said it.  Even the backtracking I've seen reads like he knows its a racist slur now and knows its wrong now.  Did he before? Maybe.

And it totally is on him for not doing the research, but even I struggled to find a link of his race to Romani.  And that's knowing he was offended it by it so was intentionally looking, so its feasible that he could have even done the research and thought odds are this isn't offensive but may get under his skin.

Personally I just hate the accuse racism now, maybe discuss it later mentality that is becoming more prominent, as a racist label can really stick with people, in my opinion unfairly, unless they are actually racist.

As I say there seems like there could be a grey area and just wanted to get my opinion out in the ether of the internets.  Thanks for taking the time to respond though.

Just in time for a bumper weekend of football, the latest episode of Phoenix City is out now at http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts!

The Nix got swept aside over in Sydney, and welcome Melbourne City and their 'stars' to town this weekend. The pod reflect on Steve Sumner's career and what he achieved for New Zealand football. Meanwhile, the TeeDubs smashed fellow title contenders Waitakere United 7-2.

Yes the comedy factor in the attempt to pronounce some of the team names is as good as it is to hear about some of the Kiwis overseas.

Yea I love it. Think it's great to show case how far and wide our talent is going and also to show the many different avenues for players to go to play pro football.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Holy Crap the solutions to strengthening the FFs on the pod were outstanding.

The idea of NZF working out of Palmy (surely would cut costs for them) makes so much sense.  The savings would surely cover travelling to Auckland when required, and would cover the costs with the cheaper cost of operating surely.

The FFs would have lower costs (unless they still wanted to live elsewhere as one owuld think its cheaper to fly to Auckland).  But with a Uni there for young upcoming stars it makes so much sense.

One would hope that NZF thought things like this through, but it's NZF and they are shark.

Sorry lads, normally a fan of the pod but wasn't so taken with this week. Elephant in the room really shouldn't have remained unaddressed...

Can fully understand why no-one really wanted to talk about it but unfortunately that didn't make it right to totally ignore it.  Or of course we could re-brand the pod "Phoenixless City" ;)

Dammit, that would have been a much better name for this week's episode!

New episode out for all you fudgeers to listen to.

Kyle Barnes joins the pod to chat about the win over Brisbane, and the Suncorp security staff ruining shirts off. The TeeDubs got their OCL campaign underway with a win, and back at home, Auckland got smashed 4-1 by Waitak thanks to having three players sent off.
