Christmas comes early this week, with the latest episode of #PhoenixCity featuring a very special guest out now at http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

Andrew Durante drops into the podcast to celebrate our 69th episode this week, we discuss WSW in Auckland with him and look ahead to the Boxing Day clash with the Jets.

Meanwhile the TeeDubs rescued a point against Canterbury, and some Sarpreet magic gave the WeeNix a late comeback.

Bravo to Cam for asking the Ricki/Ernie question. I'll admit it I woudn't have anticipated his answer but found it a wee bit cathartic hearing some respect and praise for our inaugural coach.

A fan is a fan.

Durante was a great guest.

I thought it was cool hearing Durante still call Aus home but talk about his dedication to the All Whites.  More dedicated than some AWs.

Home is often where your family is, not where you choose to live though.

How much does Carls Junior pay for sponsoring the pod? They aren't that great.

Dura was a great guest though, and it was good that he was up for some tougher questions.

Listening to Durante makes you realise how much stress as captain he loads on himself when the team is performing badly. Big ups to him

Highlights not on Youtube yet but I'll keep checking.

what the actual fudge who thought that would be a good idea?

Sponsors negatively affecting the matchday experience like that is the worst, that is up there with Fullerton Markets taking over the big screen at the stadium and making it very hard to see replays.

Wouldn't it be better for them to not have their brand name negatively associated with bullshark like this?

Another great guest spot and such honesty, makes a joke of many sports people you see interviewed on TV.

Don't really get the big deal to be honest, there were some infant of the beer deck that will be removed for the future

that is a lot of view obstructing flags. Pay a whopping $15 to get into an SS Prem game you'd expect to be able to actually see it!

You can see it.  Apart from the beer deck where else is it obstructing people?

Permalink Permalink

Yeah, as Chopah says, the ones in front of the beer deck were the only ones that actually obscured anything, the rest actually made the place feel legit - and many were non sponsors, just saying 'this is eastern suburbs'

I hope any refs that listen have a sense of humour!
I once got into trouble on our Plains Rangers website for offering the option of 'The refs should open their bloody eyes' for a statement that you most agree with. I had an official complaint and had to remove it!

The fun poll it came from

Isn't it strange that they quickly shut this type of harmless stuff down yet let players and coaches get away with horrendous treatment of referees on the pitch.

to be fair to Dura, he was the only one with an A-League championship in the squad until Wee Mac, Kosta and Fink arrived.

was it just me or did Dura basically say that Greenacre and the other guy were the new coaches when asked about Ernies resignation interview

The way he said it didn't imply he was talking interim to me

Nah he definitely meant interim, even if he didn't say the word.

Had a chat to him (off the record so I won't be posting here) afterwards about potential new coaches.

Good to see vinyl making a come back. I am expecting to see a lot more off the record comments, rather than off the CD or off the Digital DZ.

Nah, been a bit hard to organise our recording time this week thanks to the holiday period. Hopefully someone on (maybe Greenie) in the new year.

Don't have any NYE plans yet? Why not schedule some listening time with the latest episode of Phoenix City, out now in your favourite podcast app?

The Boxing Day clash with the Jets earned the Nix a point, the pod review that and preview the New Years Day game against struggling Adelaide. And with not much else to talk about, Mark Bosnich's comments about the Nix are put under the microscope.

Good pod as always.

I missed those anti-Nix comments but the thought that Fox is behind them is more terrifying to me than one mans opinion.  After all if NZ brodasters aren't paying enough and Fox is willing to pay more with us gone, that seems like a big nail in our coffin.  I did think we werent the bottom in viewership over there though.

When listening to the podcast I thought you guys were all conspiracy nutjobs, after all Fox doesn't need to discredit us, they could have just told the FFA to get rid of us last year or tell them to get rid of us in four years - discrediting us may even help our metrics by having an anti Austalian backlash over here. It struck me as purely an emotional response to the save the nix campaign which was so positive.

However apparently on the Thursday shootout he was at it again, this time better prepared (rehearsed?) and less emotional, so maybe you are onto something.

You'd have to pay him in white powder for him to consider it, besides he'd need the protection of his Fox Sports pals around him to guarantee his safety.

I honestly think this Bosnich thing has been taken too seriously - he is the Fox Sports version of Rattue.

He often airs a viewpoint that is controversial or ranty (not a real word) just to get reactions.

I'm not saying he dosn't believe what he is saying, but I think he is just a mouthpiece and no-one really takes him all that seriously.

I was told when he first was hired by Fox it was to be a bit of a clown and add a bit of character to Fox - but he got tired of that and is now trying to change his reputation to a big hitter, hence the outspoken statements.

In my mind the only credibility he has is what we allow him to have - best ignored!

he has his opinion and that is fine. Some of it is qctually quite legitimate.  What pisses me off is that Fox allow it with no chance of a right of reply or someone to actually present a counter point to his arguments
