The Wanderers lost another grand final. Good times.
Meanwhile, the pod attempts to select their 23 man squad for Anthony Hudson to take to the OFC Nations Cup, as well as chat about the Chatham Cup round 1 draw and all the latest Central League action.
I'm not a fan of a points deduction for the fans behaviour. The club have discouraged the fans using flares. You would think the 5 year ban for the individuals is enough to stop it, but if harsher penalties are required, I'd prefer the fans be banned from attending away matches, and if there's still problems, playing home matches behind closed doors. It's be a shame if the team with the best record didn't win the league due to the behaviour of a small group of fans.
I don't mind the club being fined as a punishment for not controlling their fans, but to dock points does ruin the integrity of the competition.

My two cents is that for repeat infringements by various people within a supports group, I think docking points is a perfectly reasonable course of action for the ffa to take. My thinking behind it is that because it effects the club, which is what these flaries hold dear to their hearts it more likely to have an impact on their behaviour vs 5yr bans. Which excludes them from the league and the club, which doesnt allow them to have their behaviour modified.
But if the offences are committed by an individual repeatedly, then yes bans should be a tool used to sort them out

What we saw in Western Sydney is that the threat of a points deduction was far better at stopping the flares than individual bans were. The collective RBB said that enough was enough and didn't want to encourage flare use anymore.
Interesting to note that just last night, a committee of the Australian Senate released a document exploring how the NSW Police have handled WSW games, compared to how they handle other sports fixtures. It's well worth a read, and it contains the following note:
2.62 The committee holds the view that, with appropriate consultation and cooperation between A-League clubs, the FFA, police, and active supporter groups, it may be possible to ensure – if flares are used – they are at least used safely.
Whether FFA will allow that or not is another story, and it would require a law change. Also have the problem of groups like the RBB/NT having a deep mistrust with the FFA and will therefore be unlikely to work together to make sure it occured safely.
A points deduction punishes the club, and not the fans though.(I know that as fans we all care deeply about our club, and do feel a points deduction)
I feel like a points deduction should be reserved for salary cap breaches, fielding ineligible players ect. not for fans behaviour.
It would be wrong if the Victory missed the play-offs this year because of their fans. They were shark, but not as shark as Sydney. Or if didn't win the plate because their fans set off flares. At the end of the day, the best team should win a sporting competition, and the top teams should make the play-offs (even if "the top" includes teams from the bottom half)

boxall on the right. Use Musa or even billy T in the middle.
that is a more solid back 4 than having fenton in there.
Can you guys list on here the AWs squad and starting XI you named in the pod please? Just so we can compare it to Hudson's picks. I thought you were on the mark pretty much.
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
Cam , Seatoun weren't in Prem last year. They were in Cap1 and are now in Cap2

Doesn't look like it :-(

So the lads recorded without me last week, but couldn't get the mixer working so recorded using laptop webcam mic, which didn't sound that great and i could only hear Cam in the recording.
Real life has got in the way of us being able to record this week, but we'll definitely be recording an episode next week in the lead up to the Nations Cup.

After a wee hiatus, the pod is back to talk Albert Riera's retirement, the Hong Kong 7's, and everything related to the All Whites in PNG and their upcoming games against Fiji and Vanuatu.
Thanks guys, I didn't realise so many of our players will be missing for the first match. Scary stuff.

Cam's pronunciation of Swedish is fantastic.
With the German though, I think it's Arschafenberg maybe?
Technically, the second A is pronounced the same way as the first, so not as rude as you thought ...
Shhhhhhhh!
Don't ruin the moment. It's Arse-chafenberg and you know it!

The All Whites are winning while playing some pretty hard-to-watch football, we dissect the wins against Fiji and Vanuatu and discuss whether the style we're playing will get us to the Confeds Cup.
Meanwhile, Brandon's back from Hong Kong and shares his stories from the 7's, and we wrap up all the latest Central League action.
good pod chaps. Didn't know that about the fallon tee. Found the thread about it and see the anti YF doing stuff attitude is nothing new to the forums.
Enjoyed the pod. Mobsters indeed!

There is. Apparently the power cable broke and Patrick has to get a new one.

After a wee hiatus due to a dodgy power cable, the pod are back and ready to talk about the start of the Nix preseason. Elsewhere, there was a but of an entertaining dispute before Wellington United and Wests's match in the Central League and the Chatham Cup round of 16 is this weekend, with Miramar and North Wellington flying the flag for the capital city.
good pod, it was almost worth the wait. Ill happily wear a dinosaur head to the Nix game in the tron and I really like how extensive the kiwis overseas bit is getting.
