Hi All

The change in alert level has impacted work for a couple of us and therefore changed availability. As such we aren't going to be able to record this week.

Sorry folks, hopefully back to normal next week. Stay Safe, Stay Home, Stay Apart

The Phoenix limp into the playoffs after a 3-0 loss to Newcastle, we try to work out what's going wrong and if it can be solved before the upcoming elimination final.

Yeah Hooper leaving like a good week before the playoff is interesting. Must have been some chance of his hammy improving over that time, with regular physio.

Even 10-15 mins off the bench at not much above a jog he'd be a goal threat, for his club who are in the finals but struggling to score. Remember Wood's 20 min cameos for AWs against Peru, when he had a dodgy hammy.

Unfortunately sadly just makes it more like Gaza, ain't returning and wants to get himself fit for some trials in the UK. Did he just say, sorry I don't want be here anymore. Guess we'll never know.

Not sure why you would doubt his hammy wasnt that bad doubt he would have bothered coming back if he didnt want to be there. Hamstring injuries depending on severity are not things you can much around with and not something you can work on to get 10-15 minutes out of a player and why would he risk blowing it completely properly when he is probably looking for a contract next season

Yeah I am probably being bit unfair on him. He did come back and sacrifice 2 weeks of his life in a sharkty hotel quarantine after all, when a number of other visa players refused to return. So apologies Gary.

But a bit did change after his return that would have made staying around less attractive, and also make him far less likely to come back for another season.

Nix went from pre Covid form horses to pretty mud, and now long odds to win 3 games in 8 days.

VIC & NSW had new Covid outbreaks seeing borders closed off to other states. NZ with a new outbreak. All of which makes it highly likely the new season will start with another hub away from family.

The reality of the salary cap reduction would be being discussed amongst the team, plus the fact Nix will generally just have less cash around likely without home games etc. So it would have started to firm up, that he would have to take a pay drop if he wanted come back for another season. He may have even had some early discussions on how much that pay drop could have been with Dome & Co. That would be pretty natural for him to seek some money feedback on what Nix may have offered, when you know the clubs in England the UK are already doing their recruiting for the new season.

All in all I don't think it would take a really bad injury, to make him leave for Blighty. But again kudos to returning downunder, and going through the whole sharkty 2 week quarantine etc.

Not fair on the Auckland listeners for you to record from a pub!

Hooper and Payne going home early might save some $ as well.

My take on Hooper is he's publicly said he'd like to stay on but with Covid the club probably can't afford him so without a contract on offer he's less likely to want to hang around supporting the club with his injury and more likely to want to return to Europe to find another contract.

We recorded this before last night's semifinals, and won't be recording again before the final on Sunday. We'll probably record a grand final review next week, but maybe not if it's a rubbish game.

Surely your grand final review needs to be titled "Rhyan Grant's nipple"

There's been a rumour of a signing, but nothing confirmed.

No pod for a log time, I am wondering if we are financially in the shark like the Nix? House of cards?

Havent we lost three players since then? Something to talk about there, even if in its a positive way?

The pod team return after a short hiatus for the first episode of the off-season, and navigate their way through all the issues plaguing the A-League and the Phoenix ahead of a potential season restart. Meanwhile, similar issues around creating an ISPS Men's Handa Prem draw are plaguing NZF.

Over the off-season, episodes will be released slightly earlier on our Patreon than on the podcast feed, head to http://patreon.com/PhoenixCity to support the podcast for as little as $1 a month.

Maybe is a good time to invite on Mr Dome and/or Mr Talay, given we now have a start date about 10 weeks away.

Appreciate there is still a lot they probably don't know for sure yet about the upcoming season, but usually after listening to 1 hour of a reassuring Domestar fireside chat, feel much better about Nix's place in the football world.

Both the A-League and the ISPS Premierships have announced the schedule for their season restarts, and the NZ leagues have taken it one step further by releasing the full season draw. Plus, big disagreements on whether that new All Whites away kit is good or bad.

In a slightly late-release of an episode, the pod crew discuss all the news in Phoenix-world, with player signings and contract extensions galore. Meanwhile, the ISPS Handa Premierships begin, and the pod preview a round of football that has now already been played.

Spotted this up on Nix website. Hopefully is okay to post here.

As someone who is really only a Nix supporter of the last 7-8 years, appreciate the hard work that likes of Dave have done since the Phoenix came into be. Nice gesture from the club, especially coming from David Ball.

Happy Christmas to all, and hopefully 2021 is a great improvement on sharkty 2020 for everyone.
