We'll something needs to change at the back and even though he was a bit of a plod. he was solid and at well positioned. no way would anyone have that much space with lochhead around

We were playing with 4 at the back most of the game until we went 3-1 down. The 3 at the back _was_ the Plan B - obviously didn't work.

Think the issue isn't tactics but our players are being left behind this year. We're too slow, too laboured. Elliott wont help that.

The problem is ball speed and not individual pace and Elliott is one of the better players with respect to ball speed but those around him stood and watched waiting for something to happen rather than making runs to create space and chances.

Good news:  Brown scored a beauty.  Big Mac wasn't entirely useless.  Daniel has a gorgeous mo.

Bad news: Nichols, a man pushing for a spot in the Hyundai A-League worst XI, scored against us.  The crowd sucked.  The team were very average.  North was irritating to watch.  We haven't played truly well all season.  We lost our record.  We have Perth away next match - a team who suck but it's away and the thought of seeing Sekulovski and Burns happy after they beat us is making me feel ill.  No imagination.  Stupid Greenacre running after a ball and having offside called when he could have stayed still and left Bertos to chase.  Poor marking.

Lochy with his groin strain (or whatever the injury is) was sounder than that tonight
Personally cant wait to see him back

Actually we get to keep it until someone else beats it.

Tonight was just typical NZ football, Rickis NZ tactics just arent any good anymore. Every NZ kid who plays football in NZ is told and encouraged to just pass the ball, and that footballs a passing game and if you can pass the ball you will be a good player.

NZ has zero players with flair, and zero coaches who encourage flair. As much of a team sport football is, its always players with individual brilliance who thrive. NZ has none, the AWs have none, the Phoenix have none.

We need players who can just run full steam ahead and take players on and beat them, or someone who can back them selves to hit a ball from wherever and gain decent contact and direction 9 times out of 10. Nobody can do this. Until we start producing Cahill type players we're f**ked and footballs going nowhere over here.

Not at all, look at how we have gone when he is not inthe team, both this year and last. Our defence is better with him hepatitis2010-11-03 21:50:25

Absolutely hopeless.

If they can't make the effort to come back in the last 20 minutes I think I might not make the effort of watching them in the weekend.

Nick Ward comes to mind for the Nix. As for NZ, if someone would actually give Clapham a chance...

you Elliott fans have to confess that he was utter sh*t tonight.

Was he even playing ?

I think he is average anyway but coming in from nowhere and starting the game was an absolute joke.

I gave him a chance..........

To be honest I think we have plenty of players willing to have a go Iffil, Bertos, Brown etc... apart from our defending our biggest problem is our passing. Football at its best is very simple - pass and move, thats what Brisbane did far better than us tonight

It works for Xavi and Iniesta.

Three for me, and two for them.

watch the replay.

the amount of ball he passed to the opposition was mind boggling to say the least.

I counted 4 at the game.

his crosses were sh*t, passes were sh*t. He was sh*t.

agree with yeovil, our players would get the ball at the back, and have no option but to hoof it.

no-one moving into the space and then out of it again. all a bit slow....

also, I am startin to get concerned with Ricki. Either it is has just been a couple of bad weeks ( the 1st half v adelaide was really good), or he is having real trouble motivating them

There is a big difference between them losing and losing WHILE NOT TRYING WHILE THEY ARE BEHIND.

Absolutely hopeless attitudes.

Personally I'd bench half the starting 11 and swap it around.

North, Lia, Greenacre, Sigmund should all have a rest and think about how hopeless they are.

Elliott in the midfield simply confirmed that Brown and Lia are cart horses who cannot play any form of passing game.

Schoolboy defending and not just North, Muscat was just as bad as was Durante. How hard is it to mark up and track runners. Paston doesn't escape, does he simply watch the rabble unfolding before him and his distribution was woeful. Don't underestimate what a difference Reddy made at the back as well as McKain.

Ifill and Bertos in combination is not working with neither of them being able to bring others into play, they either do it themselves or give it away. They do not track back and what I wouldn't give to have Caceres on the bench to give these two a wake up call.

Macalister totally ineffective substitution, suppose should not be surprised as probably reasonably predictable that he would not make a difference. Would have liked to see Lia kept on to sit in front of back four with Eliott pushed up and Ward used further forward, would have meant pulling Brown but other than the goal he was pretty anonomous.

Totally outclassed at home, hard to take and RH needs to pull finger.

Rant over.

Having no vision for the squad in my view is the problem. Herbert brings in players then seems to bench them after about two outings, you don't form combinations in two games especially up front. So maybe he now has a chance to pick his number one side and stick with them for at least the next month.

This has been coming for a while, we were outclassed  by a team that was no great shakes last season.

For me though we need some fresh ideas, whether that come from a new manager or some other mechanism is probably up to your individual view, but it simply isn't working what we're doing.

I'd just like to say, for those of us that can't travel to away games, what a joy it was for the away team to play tonight so we can see them live.
Also seeing 17 crosses hit opposition players brought back wonderful memories of the heady days of Elrich, so much so that it brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful sight.

Jesus we miss Lochhead. Not Manny's fault he has to play there.

Elliott is proof that a midfielder who plays the channel, is always available and doesn't run around out of control is way more useful (Hi Nick Ward)

Can someone call the Paul Ifill we had last year and see if he can come and play for us?

....oh and nice work Brisbane. Good side, composed, clinical and in the end took the mickey. The last side to beat us here and fairly predictable they would do it again. The monkey is off our back, so lets play...on saying that, heading to Perth is not what we need.

Elliot played fine, I don't see what was wrong with him,
but North had a absolute sh*t game, and Manny stumbled a few times too.
North... no, he really did have a crap game.

No.
Just a well coached, motivated athlete.
That's whats missing.
Start with the coaching to get the best out of what we have.
If Richie is the best, the NZFA needs to spend most of it's money on coaches, because he is lame.
No good promoting crap, or one off 'fluff games' only to go back to crap, so people loose interest. Guess whats happening :-)
What top athlete would want to be coach by very average joe and be shown nothing of real worth for and to test their abilities.

On the Nix, we need to find someone to get the best out of these players, and Herbert isn't cutting it. Pretty obvious really.

You're not wrong. Getting shot of Dadi, Kosta, and even Caceres to an extent was a mistake IMO.

Losing McKain has been an absolute nightmare as well.

Being told everything was under control while Ricki was at the WC seems to have been a heap of bullsh*t.

Wouldn't you love to support a team with the flair, pace and skill of the the Roar ?

That was soul destroying tonight - I can handle losing (admittedly badly) but when we are so thoroughly outclassed and the limitations of our coach and players are so brutally exposed it truly hurts.

That performance was a crowd killer - it is the second game in a row our team has been booed by our own supporters and the first time I have ever seen a mass exodus before full time.

We have to stop the never ending search for a silver bullet formation and realise a few home truths;

Our back four doesn't even look like a unit - we have a premiership winning CB combination but we don't play them together and give them a chance to gel - Sigmund has a huge heart but he is simply too slow for the A-League in 2010/11. Hearfield was solid last season and was showing form in his last game - he must start as RB. Manny is our best (only) option at LB. Herbert needs to grow a pair and drop Sigmund and get North and Dura playing together and develop a settled back four.

You can't play Brown and Lia (worst ever game tonight) together - they are both all but devoid of creativity and worse than that they sap the momentum out of move after move. Elliott looked OK and would be fine with one of Lia or Brown.

Leo and Ifill actually looked good for decent patches of the game but both need to turn up for more than half the game.

Mac - f**k me why did we sign him when a blind man can see he really is very average. Give Pav a decent run of games with Greeny.

Ward - along with Leo and Ifill he has some real creativity and would also benefit from a decent run of games.

So; play people in their positions, drop a couple of the journeyman, lose the donkeys, settle on a formation and give it a few games.

Rant over.

P.S. To add insult to injury I've organised the family holiday so we will be in Brisbane to watch us "play" the Roar in Jan - sh*t that seems like a winner of an idea at the moment although, to be fair, the Roar are good to watch

OK - rant really over.

P.P.S. Greeny - the one player who turns up week in week out - legend !
