Chris Beath is the ref for the game. In 14 games he has reffed us, we have 7 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses. Perth has a better record under him tho, 7 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses.

So Ricki shaping up to start smith in possibly our most offensive tri of midfielders in the history of phoenix!

May end up looking like this:

                    Pasty/Warner
Muscat   Sigmund   Durante   Lochhead

               Smith        Ward
Bertos            Sanchez              Daniel
                    Greenacre
I think he might start Lindsay instead of Smith.

Well thats what I thought, but its sounding like he may play smith, well thats what it sounded like from the quotes in the paper today. I would have thought Lindsay, but maybe hes not up to standard, or Ricki doesnt want to completly drop him in the deep end.

I feel like if he does play him, it could be that initial game he needs to test the waters and see what level he is at

Chucking him in at the deep end did absolutely nothing for Musa

Yes, I'm finding hard to get fired up for this RRRRRRIVALRY. Can't think of any historical beefs between WA and NZ worth getting upset about. My wife's cousin lives in Perth, but he's a good guy (and a Kiwi anyway) so that doesn't help much.

Jacob Burns is a c**t though.

Its the most distrant rivalry in the world
Hope we have quite a bit of support there. I know a lot of Bay of Plenty young people have moved to Perth the last few years, so hope they can escape the mines and get to the game.

This might sound a bit fluffy, but I actually have a bit of respeck for Perf - they have to travel as much distance as us, so I actually appreciate that they come over to the ROF and get d!icked by us once or twice a season.

I think that most teams in the league have at least 1 c**t in their squad.  Except ours of course.

Not convinced that Perth and Phoenix are rivals.
I would have picked Phoenix v Gold Coast, because they've pinched probably a third of NZs population, and have a knack of nicking our players (Smeltz, Moss, MacAllister, Rees, Rigters)
Also worst home crowd v best home crowd, GCU v The Mighty Phoenix

Everyone knows that we aren't rivals, anyone that says we are is simply mocking the FFA.

It takes two to be rivals and GCU must hate us for still beating them 6-0 after they spent all that money. And we are both young teams conceived around the same time, competing in development as well as in competition.
Don't Perth already have an established rivalry with Adelaide as the competition for the better hole?asmodeus_822011-10-21 11:11:51

A slight exaggeration re a third of NZ population. That would make it 1.3 million. The 2006 census said there were 35000. Probably about 100000 by now.
As for nicking Smeltz and Moss, both have lived in Australia longer than NZ, in fact Smeltz played on the coast long before he played for us.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Yeah I know but Their formation is closer to our own than anyone else's right? I mean Perth is ancient compared to us, 30 years older or so?

GCU was born with a silver spoon in it's mouth and a life of luxury.
Nix had a wooden spoon and soon had to live in a shoebox int middle of road.

Nix have made the play-offs in seasons 3 & 4 and have had a solid core of supporters throughout its short life.

GCU is a spoiled little brat that has alienated any support it might have got.

I think we'd be best to start with our most attacking formation, and try to get some early goals, then when the jetlag kicks in, bring on the more defensive minded people, and try to hold out for the win, or at worst a draw.

I hate how we end up fading at the end of away matches.. always makes me nervous.

Would be interesting to know if we lose our away matches mainly in the last 15 - 20 minutes.goldienz2011-10-21 12:22:09

Perth have always been our number one rivals in my mind. A: All their horrible players I hate. B: If we can't have a local rivalry, why not just embrace the most distant away fixture in the world as a form of anti-derby.
C: Their villainous purple strip.

Possible contentious issues between Perth and Wellington (and, let's face it, NZ) that could form the basis for a rivalry:

(1) Fremantle doctor vs Wellington northerly (or southerly)
(2) Both teams based so far away from Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne that no other teams can be arsed travelling there.
(3) Both cities have good airports

^ Heard that Perth is the third windiest city in the world, haven't been able to see it anywhere though.

Our airport is so much sh*tter than Wellington's

LOL, it was a pisstake on the FFA saying that we are rivals and that it is Rivalry Round.

Can you guys even give me 3 reasons why we're not rivals ? No. So shut up and just realise that maybe you guys can't seen but judging by the Perth fans enthusiasm for the match its a very fierce rivalry, and the match will be a cracker. My team for it, and we really should win and Perth are sh*t, I don't know bout this year but every season there awful, so expect a walkover people ! My team:
                       Warner
Hearfield Durante Sigmund Lochhead
                        Lia
              Ward           Brown
Bertos                                     Ifill
                   Greenacre
Bench: Crowther, Muscat, Musa, Pavlovic.
Reasoning:
Warner: F**king immense on Sunday, World Class.
Hearfield: F**king play him Ricki, jeez he's so good and a solid defender. Gonna get nowhere not even in team.
Dura: Alright, best we've got.
Siggy: Look above.
Lochhead: F**king amazing on Sunday thats why I personally think he could play in Championship or EPL.
Lia: World Class distributor. So good at passing.
Brown: sh*t no one else to play there though.
Ward: Alright.
Bertos: Best player in Team, would be definite starter in any other team.
Ifill: sh*t on Sunday, went missing. But in saying that Daniels sh*t.
Crfowther: Better to have someone in the squad on the bench rather than Imray.
Muscat: Horrible player, just hoofs ball and hacks attackers.
Pavlovic: Give the lad a shot for f**ks sake.
Musa: Wheres he been?

Thoughts?

Perth Glory v Wellington Phoenix at nib Stadium 7.30pm
Head to Head: Glory 4 Phoenix 6 drawn 3
Last clash: Round 24 2010-2011 - Phoenix 4 bt Glory 0 at Westpac Stadium
Tab Sportsbet: Glory $1.60 Draw $3.50 Phoenix $5.65

Perth are two from two, but weren't entirely convincing in beating a poor Melbourne Heart last weekend. The Phoenix looked good against Newcastle, but have a huge list of unavailable players - with Paul Ifill (groin) and Tim Brown (suspended) joining the queue. They are really down to the bare bones personnel-wise and that won't help as they undertake the long trip west. The Glory will be thrilled that Shane Smeltz hit goalscoring form just two matches into his career at the club. New Zealander Smeltz spells danger for any A-League defence, and will be doubly pumped against his old club.

Key: Reliable Phoenix defender Manny Muscat has gone from a bit-part player on his arrival to the virtual backbone of the team. Excellent in both games this season, and will need to keep across the threat Smeltz provides.
Tip: Perth Glory
