Just wait until Warner has 4 or so goals rocket past his head.

Guarantee then you'll never hear his name again until the next Paston injury.

Neither have scored any goals. Their goals to shots ratio is horrendous. Sack them both.Tegal2011-12-29 15:14:13

Warner has had a shot at goal against CCM though, so is at least providing a threat.

I never understood why we just didn't sign McMaster or someone as the understudy keeper.

Then at least, as soon as Paston was recovered, he could return to his spot.

Kinda how that scenario is meant to work with RGK's isn't it? Warner was an interesting signing at first, but now it just seems like a bit of a wasted import slot. (Sorry Warner)goldienz2011-12-29 16:41:27

Has any won spoken to paston or ricky re his condition, or is it speculation he is 100% fit. When seen in the street he has a tendancy to look the other way when an unknown supporter in nix gear walks towards him.

Warner makes some great reflex saves, but that is just because he isn't in position to eliminate the danger earlier.

We've had a few keepers fill the first choice spot since season one:

Moss
Paston
Reddy
Vukovic
Warner

madlad obviously but only as injury cover.

I reckon Ricki is not that satisfied with Paston and is still looking for his number one, one that will stay.

at least there is competition for the keeper spot in the starting 11. it means that the keepers have to be at their best to retain their spot. whereas in other teams (eg MV or CCM) where their respective number 1 keepers missed a couple of games (suspension and international duty), the number 2 keepers didnt do much wrong, but were benched once the number 1 was available again.

I'm backing Warner, as he hasnt made any major mistakes, and seems to keep the backline in order. He also has the experience of many years in Europe, and lets the defense know when he is not happy with them

I guess the problem with having Paston as your number 1 is his onjury record.  So long as Warner stays injury free that keeps much of the defence the same from week to week.  If you do put Paston in it must be 50/50 he'll last 3 or 4 consecutive matches.

I have a lot of sympathy because he hasn't done anything wrong, but his injury record does count against him.  Keepers need to be bullet proof, you don't want to be chopping and changing keepers all the time.  If you are an injury prone keeper there is no doubt your career will suffer - physically it's not that demanding playing in goal and the best can go on huge runs of matches without missing a game.  Look at Chris Kirkland, England no. 1 and now he's nowhere and that's all down to his injuries.

Paston is 100% and has been for the last 2 months.

Herbert and his random favouritism/form/drunk selection algorithm is effectively ending Pasty's career for him.

Where's the sense in playing a slower keeper that is most certainly winding up his career imminently over NZ's number 1 who single handedly earns the Nix points through his saves?

Paston should definitely be back in the team.
Warner doesn't have quick enough reactions.
He is a good keeper, but he should be no. 2.

I think sometimes Ricki is too worried not to be seen to let All Whites selection influence Nix selection.

OTOH, I'd criticise Ricki for putting Brown straight back in the team, so perhaps I'm inconsistent.

I've noted at least 3 goals where Warner appeared slow to react. Sydney, Jets and Victory. He's nuts himself I recall against Perth. Pasty would have saved two of these at least, and not nutsed himself.

I'm not buying the " Warner organises the defense better" line. It happens that Siggy and Durante have had a great season to date and I suspect have protected Warner well.

Herbert has too short a memory. All those times Pasty has made great saves and bust a gutt for team and Ricki, including getting the AWs to the WC, seem to have earned Pasty no loyalty from Herbert.... piss poor form from Herbert.

injury hasn't hlped Paston's career - fact. Sure he's doen well but he gets injured way too often. Warner has done very little wrong, and you cannot assure anyone that Paston would have done any better in the same situation - he's let some howlers in in past seasons too. either way, it's better for Warner to playing regularly and it is better for the defence too. Unless he persoanlly stuffs up or gets injured Paston is on the bench long term.

It maybe that because Moss is injured Ricki doesnt want to let Paston get another injury and bugger the all whites up, and whilst Warner is doing relatively ok is happy to let him remain in between the posts

Ah... so the logic is, don't play Paston because he might get injured? Lets face it, Warner has had little to do and when a save has been required, he's not over achieved by any stretch.

Reality is Herbert has some weird logic when it comes to our #1. The 3 goals mentioned by Robman - I recall at least another 2. There's at least 3 pts that could have been saved if we'd had a proper shot stopper on the field. I reckon Pasty is more a shot stopp er than Warner. He proved that in the Gold Coast game alone.... and played injured for the second half!

Pasty's contract is up this season I think. Why would he consider resigning given the way he's being treated? He's got an old codger being picked ahead of him when he is fit. I think this will be the final straw for our Pasty.

In the same frank discussion, Ricki confirmed in a 'matter-of-fact tone': "yeah Pasty's fit".

That was the end of the discussion about Paston.ahmad2011-12-31 08:15:06

To put it in perspective, Michael Ferrante has still played more games for the Nix than Pasty.

I believe that Paston is a better keeper then Warner, he is a lot faster and has a vastly better reaction time to Warner

people have mentioned about 5 goals that Warner let in that he probably should of been better and id agree. Paston would have saved those. yes Warner doesn't punch as much, but Paston saves more, i don't care if a keeper uses his head to save the ball as long as it is effective.

i even think the 2 or 3 times Warner ran out to beat the striker to the ball it seemed to take forever and look laboured....

I've seen people mention that because Moss is injured maybe Herbet is saving Paston for an inevitable injury, but for me that seems more reason to play Paston i want a keeper that is match ready...

However the injuries could be a legitimate reason to have Warner there for nix purposes, for the same reason as mentioned above....

Did you see the game against Adelaide where he came off his line quickly 3 or 4 times?

I'm a bit on the fence with these two. Which means I'm happy for Warner to stay, but I lean ever so slightly toward preferring Paston in there.

Pretty much. They both have their flaws, Paston is often quilty of becoming flat footed but i think hes a better close range shot stopper than Warner (probably wouldve done better last night, especially with that 1st goal). I think it mite be time for Paston to return, especially with the upcoming AWs friendly which in a few hours is only next month.

i'd look to getting a younger goalkeeper and use either paston or warner as a back up and goalkeeping coach

Both are off contract, so lets get through this season, then re-sign Moss and a young keeper to be his back up.

No we are waiting for another 4 weeks ,then we will get in someone who will perform like a demon till the end of the season. We will then let him go and start next season just as we have the last 2.
