They're both good.

I need more Daniel.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Paston had an absolute nightmare against GCU , both of them go down in 6 monthly installments and couldnt catch a cold in antarctica. both should realistically consider retirement and herbet to introduce some young blood.

Really, a clean sheet and one mistake after not playing for 10(ish?) weeks is an 'absolute nightmare'?. I'd hate to see how you describe Reddy, Bolton or Kennedy's performances.

It's not a serious post. Miron described Paston as man of the match. I think that's a bit far fetched and is really covering his own teams lack of creativity despite having so much ball. Paston was OK, would have been very good but for that very bad blunder which we were very lucky to get away with. It is tough not having played for so long.

I agree with Mike.

He had the only clean sheet of the round, made one glaring error, which Manny covered, and other than that I thought he had a good game.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Warner = Paston and Paston = Warner

Still very much a coin toss in my opinion

Agreed.

Furthermore, Warner's too slow to react and has a tendency to get beaten near post, and is just not good enough to justify an import spot, and Paston is too injury and mistake prone to create the stability and consistency you want from a keeper.

Personally I wouldn't mind if this is the last season we see either of them. I know Paston has made some epic saves, especially for the AWs, and he deserves respect for that, but I just think he doesn't  inspire confidence as a week-in-week-out keeper. There's plenty of decent Aussie keepers out there and a couple of potential future options in NZ: Imray, and then the youngsters like Basalaj (assuming he doesn't sign with Rangers), or even Marinovic maybe, if he can be lured back from Deutschland. Probably others too, I'm not hugely knowledgable about NZ's keeping stocks...

Paston still trains and plays regular friendlies against team wellington where if you saw he had another couple of nightmares there. Pulled off 1 or 2 good saves but thats his job? And as for those other two or three they had absolute shockers as well. The bhest keeper in the league is clearly Matt Ryan. When the phoenix finally decide to sign a player under 30 they will need a keeper cause Paston and Warner have proven they are rubbish goal keepers. Remember Paston got booted out of Scotland and the only place he could play in the world is NZ cause he is Rickis love child.

This - neither inspires confidence.

The goalkeeper situation will need to be resolved in the off-season.

What it comes down to is if there is nothing in it the kiwi should come first for the good of the NZ game.  That should be entrenched in 'nix policy.

Yeah, but the Kiwi in question will be 36 this year. Maybe ditching both of them (well, definitely ditch Warner) and trying to get a couple of NZ lads wouldn't be a bad idea.

Maybe make a play for Marinovic if he's still wallowing in German pub football, and get Imray (if he qualifies as a local).

I would be very happy for Marinovic to be in our team, he had some great games at the U20 World Cup last year. As was pointed out before, Matt Ryan is one of the best keepers in the league, and at the start of last season he was the number 2 keeper at CCM. It shows that young keepers can excel if they are given their chance. Even Tyson at GCU has shown in the past few games that he is a good up and coming keeper.

Why does that matter? He's a keeper.

Considering his long track-record of injuries, and that he was never blessed with great athletic ability, his age needs to be taken into account in the decision making for the next season's squad.

We didn't say that.  We said he's as good as Warner (or slightly better).

He's a good A-League quality keeper.  He's better than Kennedy and more consistent than Reddy or Theoklitos.  He's no Ryan or Galekovic but not many of our players are the best in their roles in the league.

Warner is not very good, he would struggle in central league.
Fair point Paston is mediocrity at its finest but better than kennedy obviously. would make him the 6th or 7th best starting keeper in a league. he should be proud of that.

Phil Imray is better than warner. Okay he wouldnt struggle but he would be a half decent keepr in the central league

So, by struggle you mean he'd be the second best behind Imray who is the best keeper in domestic New Zealand football?

Better than Spoonley?

No way is Imray better than Spoonley therefore Warner would not be second best. Either way after having a decent pro career you think he would be of higher quality coming to the A League

Spoonley doesn't play in the Central league unless you know something I don't?

As Imray isn't elligible for any of those it's not a fair comparison. How many ASB Premiership player of the season awards has Spoonley won?

Don't get me wrong.  Spoons is the second best he's just not quite as a good a keeper as Imray.

Imray isn't eligible to win an ASB Prem title or an O-League title?

Has he not been here long enough yet for citizenship either?

Agree you have my vote on that one

My understanding is that he hasn't taken out citizenship so he's currently not elligible for NZ.

As for the others the debate about an even playing field in the ASB Premiership has been done to death.  I guess he could move to City or Waitakere but he has chosen not to.

Have either of them put a bid in for him? No chance City would want him with Spoonley there. Waitak perhaps but i think they're content with Robinson at the moment.

The idea he could choose City or Waitak and just walk on in is rather silly.

Three for me, and two for them.

How many titles did liverpool win with Grobelaar??? Just because a player is in a team that wins championships, does not make them a great player

Except he knew how many goals he was going to let in before the games.
