my point here is can people not have their say as to how thay are feeling without being scowled at?

I couldn't be at the match yesterday, but I don't really like that chant as it's effectively saying to our goalkeeper on the park that we don't think he's good enough.

This is exactly how I feel. As soon as that goal went in I said that it was shocking keeping, and that I want Paston back. However I would NEVER chant against a player on our team, and the Bring Back Paston chant does exactly this, chants against Warner.

I will be one of the first to start the "We love you Paston" chant if he plays on Sunday though, as it is much more positive.

That makes sence how i was feeling when that goal went in  plus a bit sad. i was a wee bit pissy  but i did get over it

Im going to have to disagree with you on this one. Im surprised people are calling for Warners head after yesterdays result.
Warner has done ok on the whole. If you want to look at stats, this is the best start we have had since the team formed, 21 points from 15 games. Its important for a defence to have a stable goalkeeper behind them. Paston is just too injury prone. We never get a good run of games out of him and you dont want to take a keeper out thats doing ok to replace him with a keeper whos fitness record is quite frankly.......shocking!
For the one or two goals that Warner could have done better with, i think he is pretty solid and his communication with his defence is far better than Pastons. Ricky shouldn't be tinkering with the team with one eye on an (unconfirmed) international friendly, which is in reality, just a runout. If Ricky really wants Paston to have game time maybe he should make him available for loan so he will be sharp for the international game.
Paston has played less than 80 top class professional games, and at 35 thats very poor, however you you look at it!
My vote is to leave Warner in, he's played his part in the best start, and we maybe halfway to the best finish that we've ever had if we start pulling up away from home!

Totally agree, as much as I like Paston and hes a kiwi, there are too many instances where he lets goals in standing rooted to the spot. That pisses me off as I am sure some he could get finger tips on and maybe just maybe diflect the shot wide of the post.
Warner has done a very good job all up with a couple of mistakes for sure, all keepers do - both Vukovic and Reddy have had some moments this season too!
If it ain't broke don't fix it!!

True. Looks to me that Paston might actually have a higher "game to howler" ratio than Warner. Paston is 1 from 1.

Feel there is a bit of rose tint in some folks memories of Pasty.

EDIT: They're both decent keepers, both with certain weaknesses. I am equally (un)comfortable with either!

1 from 1 howler for Paston...? He earned us a point at Gold Coast!

Hmm. Yes he made several excellent saves in that game... but my point was that in his one game, Paston had that one howler that actually lost us two points. Because if you remember... in that game he'd actually almost earned us all three points, only to stand and watch James Brown's speculative shot go in.

As someone else said earlier, fair or not, keepers errors are remembered far more than their saves.

And as I pointed out elsewhere, Warner made one howler on Wednesday, and two or three dynamite saves. I call that a "C+" grade, not a sacking offence.

Yeah - no.There is one particular save that will never be forgotten.
Thanks again Pastie.

Yeah- I have been critical of Warner, but I thought over all he was quite good. Terrible mistake for the goal, but he looked sharper on the reflex saves and was decisive in his area. Was bloody grateful for the punch at the end.

He also makes the catches look easy.

Other thing I like about Tony is that he's got a long and accurate throw, although his kicks from the ground look a little weak sometimes. Pasty's the opposite.

I don't think there's a lot between Paston and Warner. I think Warner's come in for some unfair criticism.

Not making any excuses for him whatsoever, but after watching that 2nd goal a few times, I think the pressure Manny puts on at the last second actually worked against Warner. I think he was set for a shot across him and the pressure made Cazarine hit it a lot straighter with the result that Warner actually dives over it.

For whatever reason, it was a major howler though, but looking at some of the goalkeeping shockers in the A League this season, it puts it into perspective.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Well also he's been playing a lot, the team is used to him and he seems to be in some form.

I mean Paston is fantastic, but seeing we've stuck with Warner through him getting done at his near post we might as well stick with him through this.

I'd disagree. If you looked at most of his dives, he's consistently diving behind the ball's path. If some of those shots had of been on target, Warner would have been at the ball a foot or two too late.

C- or D.

Er, the shot by Bridge just before the penalty was totally going in at the top corner.

His only memorable save thus far. Had plenty opportunities to make more but hasn't.

This forum really disappoints me sometimes. Goldienz, your criticising a player for his dive when the ball ISNT even on target. What chance has the boy got? We have a keeper who has got a lot of experience, the defence look comfortable with him, so if it aint broke don't try and fix it.
I think you have an unhealthy obsession with Paston lol. What was your take on Pastons (non) effort with the Gold Coast goal? I think it was saveable, i think a keeper should dive no matter what, to give themselves a chance of saving it, but these things do happen. I for one wasn't calling for his head, i just thought he could of made an effort. While we are on the point of Gold Coast, i dont think there would be half the comments on here if Moss was still fit. As it happens he isnt, so this just revs up the Pro Paston crowd for the international game.

Most importantly, i think you must have to consider what goes on behind closed doors. Ricky must see the both of them at close quarters at least five times a week in training and he's picked Warner since he started against Newcastle. If he really is that bad and Paston is such a superior keeper, surely he would have been found out by now. So he must be doing something right, or low and behold, Paston might not be doing the business. To sum it up, if Paston was better he would be playing!!!!!!!!!!
Paston is just a victim of his own poor fitness record and at 35 its not going to get any easier for him. He has given up his position three times in the last three seasons, even i was surprised that he only lasted one game this term. Consistency is a problem, its a problem we can ill afford with a keeper. Why bring Warner out and put in a keeper that on past form will potentially break down, then have to put a disgruntled keeper back in when we are coming up to a crucial part of the season.

Goldienz, im somewhat impressed by your microscopic analyzation of Warners diving technique. Do you fancy a career change? You should become the next Phoenix goalkeeping coach, because by the sounds of it you are very qualified lol!

I think Paston has just been handed his chance after today. Shocking goal to concede.

Are you going to keep a running total of Paston's mistakes for the rest of the season? Just curious.

Why not? Players should be picked on form. Warner isn't in form. Same rules for Pasty I would have thought.

I didn't say otherwise. Just wondered if this was solely a rabid obsession against Warner or whether the same thinking will apply now that Paston will almost certainly be back between the sticks.

Paston's 5 years faster than Warner and much better one on one. And letting goals in at the near post like Warner did today is just embarrassing. And he knows it, too - look at his face after the goal today. Have never felt as nervous with Paston every time the ball comes near and he's asked to do something.

Surely it was actually far post in relation to where the free kick took place...

Not sure if serious but when it was headed in, the ball travelled in via the keeper's near post?
