This is ill informed tosh.

My guess is that if you watched Diego at training you'd think differently, and if you watched him in an ASB Challenge series game you'd think he was a cut above everyone else playing.

The guy is decent, he's just in a squad loaded with players that play in his position and are preferred to him.  That doesn't make him sh*te.

the best thing about youth is that when they do make their way into the first team, it feels like a new signing

I would rather see another young New Zealander instead of a waste of space foreigner. Will Pav be too old for a youth spot next year? Well lets replace Diego with a youth central midfielder.Luis Garcia2010-12-01 15:58:40

Wouldn't mind seeing Cory Cheetleburg get a spot. His workrate is immense and he has a decent shot on him aswell. (assuming it doesn't work out in Holand for him)

I would love to see a young kiwi striker signed too.

What was Astroklaus's real name?  Keen to see how he's going at whatever club he's with now.

With the speed he had I wonder if he has made it out of Tianjin TEDA stadium yet and is wondering where the team bus is parked.

Not really a suprise but sucks though. No point sitting on the bench, when he'd start on most other teams.

What a shame, always going to happen though, like the previous post said he would start at most other teams, bar maybe Adelaide. Not too concerned seeing we have Paston, who had justified starting. But I think Vukovic is the better player. Velaphi could be on the move now, just to carry the merry-go-round of keepers in the league.Luis Garcia2010-12-05 00:52:38

The problem I suppose is that Paston has a shorter shelf life - I don't think there is much difference between them skill-wise though. Both have weaknesses and strengths (Pasty punches too much and can have the odd absolute horror game while Vuko always rushes out and misses the ball)

On the topic of former triallists....
According to the commentators of tonight's Indonesia v Laos match, Bambang didn't take the contract here because we couldn't match the wages in Indonesia's League.

Have we resigned Rojas? IIRC his contract expires at the end of the season?

Vuko is fed up being second banana to Pasty, so he's going to go be second banana to Velaphi?

No chance. Vukovich will be in front of Flappy.

I find that hard to picture. Velaphi has been their number 1 keeper for some time, can't see him just sitting on the bench cause Vuko turns up.

Only way i'd see Vuko as #1 is if Velaphi is off somewhere else.

Jesus motorscootin' wept, what would Pasty have to do to convince some of you people? Save a penalty to qualify us for the World Cup? Or perhaps keep out Italy's strikers from general play for 90 minutes? Oh wait.

Oh wait, the phoenix didn't go to the world cup, that was for the All Whites, different team.
Its a shame Ricki and some of you have so much blind loyalty to the NZ players, Pasty only got his start back when he didn't really screw up in the internationals, so was very harsh to drop Vuko, who in most peoples opinion (baring those with rose tinted glasses) was the better keeper. Would be a shame to see him go. We will need another goalkeeper soon, can't really see Pasty playing too mcuh longer (despite signing contract extension), can we tempt Reddy back since he riding the Pine for Sydney

I think your the one with the rose tinted glasses. Vukovich played himself of the team with a couple of poor performances, and this allowed Paston in.

What difference does it make that Pastons brilliant WC performances were for the All Whites than for the Phoenix. Surely the only difference was that at the WC, his performances were against an even higher standard of player and even better?

I love the appeal to (perhaps imaginary) popularity. The above sentence is of the same quality as saying that "Winston Peters, in most people's opinion (barring those who don't count because they don't agree with me) should be Prime Minister."

I love Ricki's approach that he doesn't change a winning team. Pasty is an important part of that winning team. It is possible to say that the win over the Heart was entirely thanks to him playing out of his skin.
