Yeah saw this.

I don't know if I can believe this once a week thing.

If it was that easy, then how'd we end up signing toto.

Good to hear he'll be heading back over to the UK again. Its not annual till you do it two years running Ricki!

Don't get me started on this. Have had to put up with people talking about it for weeks. Apparently they need people to park in a traffic jam and there paying 80 bucks a day...

anyways I don't think India is the way to go unless we get Krishna whose not to the standard.

so does Ricky have to go to the UK for his scouting trip? or do they mean UK/Europe?
I guess the level of professionalism in the UK lower leagues would be higher than in other countries, but surely there'll be a million other places where he could go and scout players.
Didn't he, Tony P and Daniel make a trip to Brazil in year 2?

I'm think the UK is a great market - don't get me wrong, but am just curious as to whether we only want to sign someone from there or not.

I would imagine that Rickie will be going to the UK to look at and talk to some players that they already have heard about. Either through Ifill Greenacre or some other scout. Judging by what went on last time they had people lined up and then either had to convince them to come to the Nix or to see if they would fit into the Nix's club philosophy.

What would be on our shopping list?
1, A decent Rightback/utility
2, A creative Midfielder
3, A decent striker

On reflection I think that if we are looking for a striker then a taller more physical striker along the likes of a better Dmac/Dadi type would be a better buy than a smaller poacher Greenacre type.

No reflection on Greenie who has given his all, but you can't always play two strikers. Greenie did not work up front by himself. The nature of the way the Nix play is much more suited to a larger more physical striker who can compete in the air and hold the ball up against robust defenders.
TBH we are not suddenly going to change our style and play like the Roar...we need to have the right players to complement our style of play.

I was a little surprised we signed Greenacre for another year. He would be one of our more expensive players. He will be 34 before the end of next season. He won't be getting any quicker. It is a waste of money having an expensive player sitting on the bench. I would prefer the money to be spent on securing Rojas and recruiting younger players from the UK.

I'd expect the resigning of Greenacre was at a level both parties were happy with Zinidane.
Whilst not a superstar his attitude would fit right in with RH's preferred type of player imo.
A team player, fits in with the team culture, ready to give his all when required.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

4, Leftback cover
I don't really agree we need a bigger, tougher striker. Greenacre does a decent job with his back to goal and gets his head on long balls enough. Just would love it if he was the quickest player in our squad, even the league. Something like that.

With the midfield options, we could have a different style of midfield. If Ifill was playing he could very well be playing on the opposite wing of Rojas you could play Ward more centrally. Depending who plays between Brown and Lia would change the way we play a bit, Brown a bit more direct, down the wings and lots of balls into the box, with Lia and Ward I imagine a slower build up, more passes and slightly more varied attack. Anyway, would love midfielder better than anyone in our squad.

The other option is that we have a decent Right back, just we're playing him as a Defensive Midfieler (where admittedly he's pretty good).  If we can't find another right back we can look for a better midifeld enforcer.

Also disagree that we require LB cover when we've got Muscat, Musa and Hearfield who can all fill in for Lochead if necessary. Not ideal but with a salary cap and limited squad size why would we sign 2 specialist left backs?

In my opinion Hearfield isn't good enough to be considered a cover for that position.

Or This too!

Also, is Muscat re-signed for next season too? Thats surely gotta be as important as Rojas.

I think a striker is very important. Especially if we can find someone similar to DMac, but better. I feel a striker with size isn more important then speed when playing the way Ricki likes. We can have our wingers and fullbacks overlapping with pace providing the crosses to our lead striker.

A creative midfielder is quite important, but I feel a sole striker with a good goal return is more important. Combine that with Browny and Ifill and we'd have a great attack force imo

I don't think it's Ricki that is holding things up at this point. Ball very much in Mr Rojas senior's court from everything I've read. Agree that it's a pretty frustrating wait though.

Paul Cunnigham or Andy Boyens. Do it.

I think that Cunningham or Boyens are a reasonably cheap option for us as the third CB, as everyone seems convinced North is heading back to Australia. I certainly see it a real option.

Oh and of course I'm keen on Clapham. Sign him up Ricki!

Coey Turipa as a RGK? Surely Crowther's time is up with us.

Yip Boyens is a good option as third CB if he doesnt want much cash.

I would take Clapham, but would prefer us to aim higher first and only sign him if we really cant find anyone better

THIS! so keen on a kiwi youth keeper to back up Mark Paston and Coey Turipa has to be our man as he uses up a youth spot. Was outstanding for NZ U-17s in their world cup. If Mark Paston got injured then we could bring in someone else. So many young keepers in the league, bout time we developed a young kiwi one.Luis Garcia2011-01-18 17:37:25

I would like Aaron Clapham to sign with another A-League side. Maybe NQF, somewhere that he will get game time. I can't see him getting game time here unfortunately, so even if he signs he'd just be another Mulligan/Diego.

RB who can play CB. Ifill's mate I assume. Getting old enough to consider coming here. Exact position we need to fill.

Do it Terry!!

(I am slightly dreaming seeing as hes contracted to 2012, but who knows, after that?)

Was the american Phoenix target called Jermaine Jones?  If so, he has signed with Blackburn on a 6 mth loan

Normo's coming home

Yeah different Jones. The one we are after is a more realistic signing, but still seemed absolute class.

I'd love to see a few good signings this offseason along with a LOT of youth NZ talent. Rojas and Clapham being a must.
