Re-signing Ward is key and is kind of worrying me, just because he's an Australian you get the feeling that there is probably a number of other clubs in the league after him, and he obviously has family over there.

Agree. I think he hasn't played his best football here but he does provide the spark in the MF. Having players such as Muscut, Brown and Lia is great cause you break down opposition's attacks very often but let's face it, going forward Ward is our best MF at the moment (after Rojas that is to say).
I'd go to lenght in order to have him here for another year or two.

if ward is our best MF then I maintain that we are in a bit of trouble, agreed he is probably our only really attacking option, but how often do we lose good quality ball when it's at his feet? too often for my liking......I agree with getting him to sign on the dotted line but we still need a real talented central mid who can play the ball at his feet and pass accurately.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I have it on good authority that the young youth players above are a work in progress.

pretty sure sarota and oar will be happy having got on the pitch against Perennial strugglers Liverpool, they may not be starters anymore but somehow i dont think they will be regretting their decisions

Could be useful. Only 5 foot 6 though. I kind of want a tall striker with a bit of pace. The way we play a tall striker who is good in the air would pay dividends. Van Dijk would kick ass for us...( pity he's locked away by adelaide for 3 years)
And for all he the ball he gives up Ward provides more quality ball than all our other midfielders combined minus Rojas.

Shane Smeltz is a hot potato and at least 3 a-leagues club are after this star.

But hold on, what is this comment ..."

Bleiberg says his advice to his friend is to do what ever is good for Shane Smeltz."

Sounds like the wrong endorsement for the star!

all i want is a tall fast striker who is a freekick specialist, can play off both feet, can play RB and GK, and is an identical triplet so we can have three of him. Plus young so can fit as youth player.

He has easily played his best football with us which isn't really saying much

It still kind of boggles my mind that Caceres is rolling around in the state league when he was probably more effective than Daniel, Toto and Wardvaleo2011-01-25 20:40:52

Say what?!! I thought Caceres was in Argentina or something. Christ if he's in the state league can't we bring him back or something? I mean he deserves better.

I'd put Ward ahead of Caceres, mainly because Caceres only really delivered in a few games at the end of last season

Has signed a deal with Heidelberg United in the VPL.  Remember he didn't want to stay in Wellington.

It's because we snapped him out in Maya tongue probing some 18 year old two weeks before his wife gave birth to their kid. So decided to GTFO NZ. Sorry guys.

Ward > Caceres. Caceres was quality off the bench, better than Daniel and Toto for sure, but I'd have Ward over him any day. Ward is the perfect attacking mid to compliment Rojas.

just watching the OZ vs Uzbekistan semi and we should be getting someone like this guy. I know it wouldn't happen but he is the kind of guy that would really suit our style of play.

And their kit is similar to ours too.
He is a good player. Sounds like hes linked to some decent clubs though.

Yeah Caceres was good and could beat a man when needed.
I did notice that he hardly ever crossed though. He preferred to take shots from long distance. Which isnt always bad. But Ward is a far supereior player.

And yeah Caceres would be better than both Toto and Daniel, plus hes an aussie. But doubt hes gonna be back

Oh no! What a shame. Worse than Ward or not, Tongue probe infidelity or not, I'd still have him back. Surely he can't really be enjoying VPL after playing A-league football.

You've got to be more specific, fella. You're not giving us much to work with there

He does have a wife and child, but Monkeyboy was taking the piss.

But 2B is right, that chapter of Phoenix's history is well and truly done and dusted.

Was there a bit of a cloudy reason why Caceres left? All these comments about trying to end the conversation make it seem like it.

There are some rumours bouncing around town about why he didn't love Wellington in general.  Not the club in particular.

Is it true that Rojas, Ward and Dmac are not yet signed up for next year????

Ferk me!!  Time to get some signatures. Especially Rojas and Ward.
Dmac...despite the donkey label has done some good stuff since coming back late season. What is it? 6 goals in the last seven games???? If we don't sign him then I sure hope Rickie has somone lined up for his UK scouting trip.
No offense to Greenie but in terms of the way the Nix play a Dmac sort of player is much more effective. If we can find a similar style of player with a higher skill level and accuracy then we will be sweet for next season.
