Have you seen this: https://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/193002,jets-chase-red-devils-duo.aspx
The jets want to sign Paul Scholes and Micheal Owen! Seems far fetched.

But its a good idea, spend a tonne on some big name premier league signing and pin your advertising around them to attract both fans and sponsers, not to mention have a kick-ass, talented and experienced player in you team.
Do you think it could be worthwhile for u to do that? Interesting prospect.

Correct.  After Feverish bobsleded Toto off the beach during the beach footy comp last night, Ricki will need to sign an injury replacement.

Toto is looking at leaving at the end of the season. Apparently doesn't get on with Ricky.

Source - translating what he says to me on google. He doesn't speak English.

Apparently Toto was playing beach football yesterday so looks pretty doubtful he'll remain!

appears to be the  problem with the nix at the moment . just signing something wont do..we've tried that and it doesnt work. Hopefully this year the nix will look at potential players a bit more in depth and the added pressure of the world cup wont get in the way, enabling them to be a bit more selective.....fingers crossed

The more I think about it, the more that I think the WC has affected the Phoenix season
e.g. distracted coach at the start of the season both in terms of recruitment & tactics (we have taken an eternity to settle into our preferred playing style this season), players picking up long term injuries (Bertos, Lochy), players seeming a bit burnt out (Brown & Siggy are only just starting to come into a bit of form in the 2nd half of the season, and Bertos & Lochy were both pretty average before their injuries).

Hopefully next season without that (welcome!) distraction, we can have a proper off-season and hit the ground running.

Imo the other limitation this season has been the cash factor, or lack of it.
Terry hasn't had any spare since before the start of the season and the lack of quality of this season's new recruits has been telling.
No recruitment expeditions to the Europe or South America, just picking up discarded or available players from within the A league generally. Although from time to time some of this seasons recruits have stepped up.. ie North, Big Mac, Ward... performances haven't been consistent week in, week out.

I was at a Fundraising  Dinner featuring Wynton Rufer recently- and he maintained he thought the Phoenix would not make the top 6 (from the start of the season) this year due to the World Cup impact.

I don't really see the need for vast overseas recruitment given we only had 1 foreign place on offer?

The reality of the A League roster rules  is the you need to have a large pool of mediocore Aussie (and NZ Players for the 'nix), you simply don't get a choice

I'd personality like to see more investment in the team in terms of (minimum wage), moderately risky youth options, with more money being spent on key players, rather than vast sums being spent on 5 year A-league 'pros' who's only distinguishing feature is holding the right passport.

Its no longer a problem.

We have to offer him marquee. I know he turned it down last time to go to the Gold Coast, but he's always going to give 15 goals a season, and is a bit of a hero to a lot of NZ kids.
