How so? Whenever he has played CB he has been one of the best in the league. It was when he moved out to full-back that he went wrong.

Not necessarily better than North but would imo would compliment Dura bettervaleo2011-01-13 21:09:04

How can you have proof of something like this. It is called OPINION.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Because Dura is a ball playing CB and so is North - they both have played full back for extended periods. I think Siggy is pretty similar to NTS too though

How about we just get McKain back valeo2011-01-13 22:53:03

How so right back at ya!

I must admit though my opinion of him was mainly formed when he was playing as a full back.

Was Perth's only good player when they were sh*t and has dominated at Newcastle - don't think i've seen anyone win a header against him all season

Lets sign Allan Pearce.
Also with reference to the "if Smeltz came back formation" I would play Greenie next to him, a far better option for secondary striker, fast and alert enough to pounce on the loose ball.
And I don't understand at all the opinion of those who don't think that Topor-Stanley is an excellent CB.
The Jest have the best defense in the league don't they? I'd say Topor-Stanley has a lot to do with that.

Let's not sign Allan Pearce.

Greenacre is slow.

But yes, Hyphen is a class act. I was amazed he only had one yellow card all season, pretty decent for a defender.Luis Garcia2011-01-14 15:19:26

Andy Boyens anyone? He's a fullback isn't he? Might slot into RB quite nicely.

a) he wants a crap load of $$$
b) he tends to sit out on average of 5 games for every 60' he plays

Honestly cant see us getting anyone now which is quite depressing. Its almost like Terrys told RH that he isn't gonna have much $$ to fork out so lets just wait.

Still think Ifill should be at a desk right now on a line to England helping sort us out. Come on terry, give him a good international calls package and let him find us some of his old mates!!!!playwithFire2011-01-15 08:40:07

Think if we need to raise done cash, serious thought should be given to bringing a game to auckland. Figure at Eden park we would easily crack 20k.

Also, if the All Whites can't get 20k at NHS after the AWs campaign do you really think the Phoenix will get more?

Like it or not, Wellington is the home of NZ football at the moment. Akl has disappointed too many times in the past. Don't get me wrong, I would love the AW's to sell out in Akl, Wgtn, Chch and wherever they go, and I would love another NZ team in the A-League, but it's not going to happen for a while.

I doubt NZ will get another team in the A League. Where would we get the quality players from? The Nix need 2/3 more good players to be competitive.

I think Eden park is more acceptable to the sporting public then north harbour stadium. I also think the Phoenix is every bit as marketable as the all whites to the average sporting Joe bloggs. 20k in a 60l will be ok. Remember you guys are doing 7 in a 35k stadium. I think serious thought needs to be given to the idea. We need the cash

Its not Ifill's job, no.

But I still think they would be quite keen to hit up some of their old chums and see who's interested. Greeny and Ifill did talk last offseason how they had many people interested.
The only connection we've seen is Chris Shuker I think?

Dreaming, I know, but Server Djeparov anyone?  Uzbek player on loan to Seoul FC for the season (I think) from a club based in Tashkent whose name escapes me.  Asian player of the year in 2008.  Midfielder.  Would demand the marquee spot and would definitely get it if it ever happened.  Imagine English could be an issue but they could work through it easily enough.

Ricki better be following the Asian Cup, though.  At least someone at the Phoenix better be scouting there.  Heaps of talent, some of which could be picked up relatively cheap you would think.

Here you go PWF.      Ricki has his ticket booked

NZ Herald " Herbert will make his now annual off-season trip to the UK to scout players but player recruitment is becoming a lot easier than when the club was first established.

"People see us as an extremely good option now and they want to come to the club. In year one it was hopeless. It was difficult to get anyone. Now we get contacted every single week about players wanting to join the club."
