In Greenacres case anything would be to much. You will have to ask the guy who wants to see the books but I would estimate between 180 and 200k per year

nice coin for warming the bench if you can get it

Are you a fan of his second best?AucklandPhoenix2011-02-01 05:29:53

Auckland will rise once more

I doubt very much that greenacre was signed for less then he was on before. I have no idea why he was re signed early as clubs would hardly have been pounding on his door. In the meantime players like ward, rojas, big mac and hearfield remain unsigned. Take 3 out of those 4 out of the squad next year and we have some serious holes

How much was he on before?

Transfer window shuts in half an hour.  Doesn't look like anything's happening for now.  A bit disappointing.  Only 3 games to go but also playoffs.

With 3 games and the finals left, wouldnt be worth it really. Bringing some players over to have a look at, with a view to next year would be nice. That way we dont have to make a quick decision, like we did for Toto.

Not baiting at all. Merely pointing out that a statement like 'I doubt very much that greenacre was signed for less then he was on before' is irrelevant unless you know what he was on in the UK.

i thought he was referring to greenacre re-signing with us rather than his initial move from england i.e. he probably got improved contract terms when he re-signed - fair assumption to make?

Could have been the case. Use of signed, rather than re-signed threw me.

nonetheless, there is every possibility that he isn't on a better deal than before. And pulling out a random number is pretty pointless.

I don't see why at all. In the first place you had to convince him to make an uncertain move to the other side of the world, sell his house, leave behind friends etc. He then had a solid but definitely not outstanding season but he liked it here and was keen to re-sign. I'm struggling to see why you think his contract terms would improve. rjmiller2011-02-01 12:32:57

Not being a professional footballer i wouldnt know, but i'd be a bit gutted if the boss called me in and said you can keep working here but you gotta take a pay cut

Maybe not a pay cut but not a raise either (except for CPI adjustment ... possibly)

How many years is his most recent contract? If it is more than one they may have given him a couple of options, another at the same rate or longer at a reduced rate. I just highly doubt his salary would have at any stage since he got here gone up.

Pav, Diego, Toto are just wasted space, they only ever make the bench and only if Daniel, Greeny etc need to start because some of the regulars are injured/suspended. The Nix wouldnt do any worse with someone like Clapham in place of Diego

Pav is a youth player though. How many times, Rojas aside, have we seen a youth player get regular game time or even excel? Never.

Well for one Pav was signed BEFORE we brought in the 'youth' sqaud, so is he even needed anymore? why bring in an aussie youth player whos hardly playing first team football when we have an entire squad of kiwis who could do as good of a job?

And if hes not a youth player next season we should defo sign someone better and get rid of him, hes not good enough to be in a side with ambitions of winning the league (as a non youth player)

Might just mean there's a bit more in the pot for the IRD

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

But in a salary capped environment, also that players generally understand that their earning potential often drops as they get older...different factors to a regular job

I reckon we should try and sign former Dundee Utd,  Aston Villa and Wolves  star Andy Grey ,he's apparently looking for a club at the moment and I'm sure he would be good for a couple of seasons

As long as we keep him away from Sarah Ho

Danny Invincible - Striker - Ruled out a return to Australia a year ago citing we was not ready to return home, yet. Could prolong that length with a move to New Zealand. The Wellington Phoenix front line would look Invincible with his addition, but after bench roles in the lower leagues of British football, is he even good enough?

Fred - Been here before, while it was a shortened stint, we have lured him to New Zealand before. Imagine Ifill, Fred, Ward and Rojas in the same line up!

Freddie Ljungberg - Another out of contract at the end of the season. Has gone from MLS failures to a stint at Celtic. But he is clearly still a talent, would require big bucks and could draw some crowds (of Swedish women).Luis Garcia2011-02-02 23:19:09

I'm starting to wonder if Paston will return. He has a Job with one of the Phoenix sponsors, which looks career-like - certainly looking beyond football?

Freddie never struck me as one too interested in the attentions of women....

Invinvible would definitely be worth a look. Can he play in the hole? i was under the impression he was more of a creative midfielder.

Give him aus marquee if its needed. Means more space for the rest of the squad.

I think what the man does in his spare time is really none of our business.

Well when North buggers off (if he does), we'll have Siggy/Dura starting with Musa as back-up. Don't think we need McKain back tbh.

Although i'd prefer McKain/Dura than Siggy/Dura...there I said it.

Dura does a hammy pre-season, siggie gets a last-man red first game, and before you know it we've got Manny in at CB in just the second game of the season... no thanks

4 CBs is a must - and preferably at least 2 of the 4 should be capable of covering other positions thus increasing their possible game time (this is exactly what we have now, hence we've survived alright at CB this season despite niggles, suspensions and the asian cup)
