Was - Phoenix Transfer Speculation

about sean lovemore - i've played against him and he used to go to school with me. in his time with the 1st XI he was mainly used as a winger or a striker. watching 1st XI, yes he is VERY quick, but his touch and finishing could do with some work. also, quite often during the 1st XI games he would come down in cramp, not sure what's wrong there.

What is the word on Paston? Were they freak injuries? Likely to recur? I'm tempted to say lets just take a chance on him as the number one keeper and if he does pick up another injury scramble to replace as we have done so in the last couple of seasons.

Paston's career has been littered with reasonably serious injuries, not just at the Phoenix.  Maybe it's bad luck, maybe he's injury prone - who knows

I would be happy to bring Stefan Marinovic in as the second keeper. But is he going to want to come home?

Andy Bevin and Ryan Cain impressed me again today and I think Nick Branch is the best defender at the World Cup for us. Dakota Lucas could also be up to it.

Not interested in Luke Rowe or Andrew Milne and yet to be convinced by Sean Lovemore. Yes he's fast but he's got a poor touch and is a poor finisher (from the two opportunities I've seen)

This good assessment. Agree almost entirely.

Branch is too short for a centre half.  I thought Cain had some decent touches but needs to get more involved in the game.  Marinovic was good but keepers can look good behind a weak defence.  Also hard to judge on a tournmanet alone.

Dakota Lucas was more impressive for me than Bevin although both are tidy I thought he made some intelligent runs.  The first time ball out to Rojas before the cross was a clever piece of play.

until you name names. I could easily say the same in reverse. Doesn't
make my point anymore factual than yours. You've been around here long
enough to know this so lets not even go there.I think that you can not compare any player in the NYL because any player that has an element of quality makes it look like men vs the boys because there are a lot of kids at the level that are not strong footballers so anyone that has talent will stand out instantly. I don't deny that he certainly does put away his chances and I would be interesting in his conversion rate because it would be high. He is far better than Cain and Galbraith (incidentally how the hell did he get picked other than for his height) but I would not put him ahead of Lovemore. Then again I don't think they play the same position really so its not a relevant comparison. Bevin is a striker, Lovemore is not so much and sits better as an attacking wide man that drifts in. He has to have some talent because he did score goals in the premiership. While he does score goals, we fundamentally disagree how he gets them. I just don't think he has the pace for the A League and he more like a Greenacre (a poacher)
Okay fair enough but I thought it was obvious who those coaches were given there aren't very many ex coaches of the nix but anyway...

Obviously I think there is more to Andy Bevin's game than you do and I think I'm in a good position to judge because I have seen him play a lot (hence the NYL reference) and have heard a fair few people rave about him. Fair call that he's not comparable to Lovemore because they play different positions but I still think Bevin is far better quality wise and is more likely to make it as a pro footballer. Agree on Galbraith.

I guess he did my argument some favours this morning and it's good to see that I'm not in a small minority that rate him as one of our best young players.

Also, he had enough pace to beat the defender to the cross for the goal!

Fuck this stupid game

It was very worrying to me how poorly Lovemore did with that chance (even though he was flagged offside).  Bevin one chance one goal - that's good to see.

Bevin popped in a free kick from distance just before the goal that was down the keepers throat, and prior to that had a dig from distance too that was on target but an easy save no?

I'm pretty sure it's been said that one reason is that the club plan to do something similar themselves.

They are but not sure how they will pay for it in the current environment.  We reserve the right to re-introduce it but have some other expenses that have tied the money up at this stage.  More to come on that...

So it's not exactly an ideal track record from both the club's and the player's perspective.

To be fair, I'm sure Djite didn't do it on purpose.

And where, exactly, did I say that?

What I AM saying, is that Paston's not had an injury free season while he's been at the Phoenix (remember that the reason Moss started in season 1 was because of a Paston injury), he's had injury issues throughout his career, and he's getting to the age where it's a legitimate question for both the club and the player himself to ask themselves is it really worth it.

That is all.

Actually, me, in reference to a night at Te Whaea a couple of weeks back.

Those who were there could probably give you a few more details...

The reason why Richie isn't playing A-League (and its the same reason why he didn't last here) is because he is in the similar vein as Felipe - One trick and doesn't like the physical stuff. Kick him early and he doesn't play.

Yes.

Because having played years in the NSWPL and the VPL the NSW and Melbourne clubs are queueing up to sign him so he must be A-League quality.

He hardly set the ASB Premiership on fire at Waitakere.

Saw this guy play at the U23 world cup, was Hollands number 9, scored a few by memory. I thought he would be big, it was he, Babel and De Ridder that all got EPL contracts after an amazing world cup for the Dutch.

Have to be worth a look for Ricki.
