Does Rigters qualify for marquee status? Not a recent international. Not a high profile Aussie returning. Not a high profile foreign player. How will Miron squeeze $400-500k a year out of a $2.2 mil salary cap for him?

Its no longer a problem.

Who is this Smith though? Did he play for Sydney and if so how long for? I don't recall seeing him but didn't pay much attention to bling last year.

Oh, the way people were talking sounded like he had played in the a-league before. Could be OK but won't get too excited about someone from sydney olympic without having seen him.

Sign the guy Smith just because I now feel sorry for him about the shabby treatment by Gold Coast!

And he'll have a point to prove. We've always done well with such players in the past. Surely can't be any worse than Toto or Chen.

and Rigters can GGF.

Given the number of spots available on the roster - and therefore in the salary cap - at the Phoenix, surely it's a concern that GCU have the cash available to sign Rigters?

Or just perhaps Gourdie the Phoenix didn't think he was worth what he was asking.

exactly, he may have been a good signing but there is no point in giving him 1/3 of the salary cap, or making him a ridiculously over priced marquee, especially if he fails in the first few games and needs to be benched or not picked at all.

But what if he rips up?

Gourdie seems to have bought into this idea that anyone who comes to us should be signed or it's a bad look. By the way, how is Toto?

On par with out first Marquee...Pierich.

Do you think the Nix have been burned by their over priced signings and are now a bit gun shy? Elrich is a good example of over priced signings that deliver nothing but bacon and egg.

A concern for the Phoenix? What Clive Palmer is spending is not a good indication of whether there are money concerns at the Phoenix. As someone at Gold coast once said, the entire salary cap is pocket change to Clive. Money is obviously tight but my gut feeling is that it is not quite as bad as a lot of people are making out.

The fact that matchdays only cost Mr Piecart a reported $30k by closing off 3/4 of the stadium instead of around $120k-150k means that he's probably losing a lot less than most of the other clubs in the league too!

Id like to know how much the Nix save by closing off the nor-western end

Lets see how Rigters goes , i watched his performance and agree what a great finish but if u look at his record ,its not that impressive.
I have seen Thurtell play last year and while he is young he can finish, hasn't yet been signed but he shows potential u cant teach strikers to finish its instinctive, his record is good even as a Junior
Just needs time to adjust to speed of A-League but that's up to RH if he signs him

Game against Melbourne Heart also encouraging with fight back of goals and were unlucky not to win in the end, Greenie did well up front and Riki made lots of changes , so i think we will beat GCU in first outing
