Is there still a possibility that we will sign Killen?

Seems like that story has gone real quiet for a while now. I think the Chinese season is over or close to over for Killen. At the very least it would be worth trying to get him for a guest spot until he was required back in China. I don't think the Nix are going to change their playing style.....a tall striker as good as Killen would be handy at the moment. We need something to shake things up a bit.
Don't hold your breath though

Killer had a pretty good time in China.  8 goals in 13 games to keep Shenzhen up.  They won't want to let him go, nor be keen to have him run down for their new campaign.

Not saying it won't happen, but it's only going to be 4-6 weeks.

So besides Killen are there any semi-quality players in NZ or Aussie that we can pick up anytime soon?
Also when is Ifil back? This week or next?

It says in this article (http://bit.ly/w156gT) that they went down "All Whites striker Chris Killen signed off from the Chinese Super League midweek with his fourth goal in as many games and his ninth of the season as the already-relegated Shenzhen Ruby lost their final game 1-2 to Changchun Yatai."

Not sure if that will affect his chances of coming here but surely he could be convinced of a 6 week stint back home. Convincing his relegated club might be a different story but you never know where a club is at once they've just been relegated.

I thought his contract finished during this off-season have we had confirmation that he has re-signed for nother season?

Yeah, I have my wires crossed.  Killen kept Shenzhen up in '10, then scored a third of their goals in the relegation campaign.

sportinglife.com seem to have made it their mission to render google news searches impossible - near as I can tell, Killen will be out of contract.

Yes.

Unless the Chinese press have misquoted him (has Fairfax bought shares in the Chines meeja?).

Think J82 has indicated that he has signed on for another season in China.

EDIT - Just noticed he's said so himself...el grapadura2011-11-07 18:33:56

Yay a name!
But can we sign players in any capacity who not free-agents outside of the transfer window?
Is it the case that we could sign anyone on short-term loan with the players and clubs permission?
Will any ASB Prem/Aussie state league team sign us their star player on a short-term loan?
We do have Alex Smith who could play upfront with a bit of reshuffle of the team, but that would involve Tsatt or Siggy to right back... neither inspires confidence...
We seem pretty buggered until January/multiple-injury-recovery time.
Any idea when Lia gets back?

reading this I seem to think that he is leaving the Chinese Super League - "Signed Off".

Would be interesting to see if a player who has made such a huge impact after only a couple of games would be let go by his current club... does anyone think the Dragons wouldnt be too stoked to sign him off?

If we borrow players from the ASB Prem, if they make it onto the field, they will have to have a stand period before going back to their team, 30 days I think it is.

I wish you would sometimes Steve-O!

(Personally I think that he is on a nice little earner, so another season playing in a less competitive league should see him up his goal tally and stay in shape for internationals. Unless there is something else that is keeping him in Shenzhen. Still, would be nice to have him as a guest player.)

I'm sure there is a minimum wage A-League players can be paid, and it's probably not "cheap as chips."

Krishna was trialled before and never got a look in. Is he really the best player in the league? I'm interested to see how this Canterbury United striker goes.

Otherwise Cole Peverley, Aaron Clapham and David Mulligan have to be the next best don't they?

I'm not a massive fan, but surely Sterjovski isn't a bad option. He's a forward (something which we are lacking) has pedigree, and while he hasn't got the greatest goalscoring record, at least he has a goalscoring record.

Obviously Allsopp is a twat after those things he said, and looks as if Killy is in China for another year. We need a striker, and I would prefer someone experienced who can put the ball in the net.

Given our import situation, this might mean Sterjovski if we can nab him. He'd be on pretty good money over in Perth though.

Yeah that sucks - it seems like a bit of a shafting of the other OFC nations that their players are still considered foriegners in the Nix when Kiwis aren't

Why?

The Phoenix aren't based in Honiara or Nadi, they are based in Wellington which is in New Zealand.

They have trialled Krishna twice and said no, he's also failed to make a mark when at least two other A-League clubs have had a look and failed to make a mark in the US-League.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he was a highly promising U-20 who hasn't advanced as much as people hoped.

Sterjovski isn't a striker.  He's also a bit of a twat.  No thanks.

Basically because the OFC needs all the help it can get and if there's an exception made for NZ players why not the other members of our joke confederation. Realistically there's only a handful of players who would come close to professional level anyway and having a chance to crack into it might help develop the game in the region. In the long run having stronger teams to play in qualification for world cups can only help New Zealand football too, and I don't think there's any chance of us joining AFC in the foreseeable future.

I get that there's no obligation to have them eligible, but it would have been nice for our Pacific neighbours if they got a greater benefit from the one professional team based in the confederation

I agree on Sterjovski BTW
