New Perth kit

Glory see stripes
Monday, 18 May 2009

Perth Glory Owner Mr Tony Sage today unveiled the clubs new playing strip which for the first time in club history will feature vertical stripes.

The striking design on the front of the playing shirt was selected to coincide with an exciting era at the club in which a new logo has been adopted and the squad revitalised for a full frontal assault on the Hyundai A-League in 2009/10.

Perth Glorys prominent purple colour has been retained with a solid block on the back of the shirt and the sleeves while the front will feature a mix of purple and white stripes to create an impressive looking shirt.

We have set out to revitalise the club from top to tail and have scored plenty goals with our new look both on and off the pitch, Mr Sage said.

The playing shirt is something different from what weve ever had before and that was a deliberate decision to reinforce the new attitude and desire of the club going forward.

The comments weve already received from Reebok and those that have had a sneak peek at the shirt have been extremely positive, Mr Sage said.

Football Federation Australia has adopted a home and clash strip policy which means Perth Glory will wear the striped home shirt during matches at Members Equity Stadium and on road trips where appropriate.

The new look has received the thumbs up from the players with Glory defender Jamie Harnwell keen to give the new look style a run on the pitch.

I think its a great new design, it looks smart and adds to the renewed feeling that we all have at the club, Harwell said.

The full playing kit will feature the new striped shirt, purple shorts and white socks.

yeah but as least we won't be purple - not that there's anything wrong with looking gay...

Sketches and rumour say our stripes will be across the shoulders and sleeves as well.

Perth's shirt looks great.  Can't wait to see ours.  So happy we aren't stuck under that really strict Reebok agreement like last season.

Nope. Think it's their normal kit too. Newcastle's isn't , though.

i guess it does depend on the sponsor but it looks so much better with a sponsor on the front of the kit. compare the nix top with and then without the sony on the front.

Could be different with the stripes adding a bit of interest

Yes well a Birmingham City supporter must have lots of reasons to be depressed. I think the striped kits will be a great seller for the club.

I agree they have given me plenty of reasons to be depressed over the years however stripes were never one of the reasons thank god. Its interesting that a throw away comment about a shirt for heavens sake can cause you all to become absorbed in the defence of it...is it that maybe you believe striped shirts aint so great?

Its not a throw away comment when you repeat it ten fold.

Ive ever repeated it because when someone has a different point of view forum members jump on them because they dont agree with what they want and at the end of the day it doesnt matter what we think about shirts the club will play in whatever shirt they think is best but it doesnt mean that we have to like it or agree with each other about it, and as the subject of how great stripes are keeps cropping up then the alternative view is that stripes isnt so great then I will put my point of view

You know, paullt is right. He only mentions how much he hates the new kit when somebody says how awesome they think it is.

Oi! akatarawa! Stop talking about how much you like stripes! This is clearly a discussion on the subject of stripes being great, SOMEBODY NOTIFY PAULLT! HE NEEDS TO GET HIS WORD IN AGAIN!
[QUOTE=paullt] there will be pleny of shirts to buy because despite what gets posted on here there are a lot of of us who dont actually like stripes that much

Success! Great work paullt, that'll show him for having an opinion different from yours!

paullt, you have every right to have a different opinion, to express your opinion, and to defend it should others attack it. That's fair enough.

But seriously mate, simply re-stating your opinion over and over again adds nothing constructive.Your opinion isn't so important that it needs to be taken into consideration every time somebody disagrees with you - or in the most recent incidence, any time anybody mentions the strip at all. akatarawa didn't even mention whether or not he/she likes the strip! Or even if he/she plans to buy one!

You don't like stripes. We get it. You don't need to tell us any more. You saying "no" a hundred times doesn't cancel out a hundred people saying "yes". So seriously, say something new or constructive for a change. If enough people dislike the new kit, it won't sell, and the "problem" will solve itself.

Ok guys enough is enough and I take on board what you are saying, repetition is not the way and I will refrain from commenting on the 'stripes' issue from now on. I realise that I do harp on about it and will endeavour to remain silent about my issue with striped shirts even though for all my mutterings I will still buy one and wear it with pride to support my team
