"Best move they've played all season" - Ifill.

A string of great passes and fluid football that ended with a scuffed cross that went out for a corner.

Incredible that that was the best move of our entire season.

We’ve had 5-6 very classy goals this season. Though it was a very fluid move. Against the team that has finished bottom by a long way.

It’s just, to make a reference to popular culture, like when Puccini said Wagner had wonderful moments and very dull hours.

Our too Japanese imports are to slow. When we counter with them they can't carry the ball into space at pace allowing the other D to regroup.

I hate Chief ball.

GSR looked good IMO. Looked to pass and move. I do note once he was absolutely free begging for the ball from Rufer who did a couple little tricks before trying to his Kosta.

No trust in his team is all I good see from that bit of play.

LBS was poor. Yes a talent but so wasteful in possession tonight.

Josh had a very good game in goal. Kept us in the game.

Chiefy’s bodylanguage in the second half hardly set a good example.

Thank God this is over.

This was our best lineup, home game against the wooden spoon team.
I slowly believe Italiano is a con-man. Maybe delusional? I doubt next season will be much better.

Ishige has shown he’s not a striker, but has been able to play a lot of excellent passes. He’s not slow at seeing and playing those. He’s the best in the team at it. In fact, he’s never said he’s a striker.

Nagasawa is slow. Don’t play a through ball for him to chase. Piper can’t trap the ball or pass. Don’t play a ball into his feet that he has to control and distribute.

Kelly-Heald isn’t Pirlo. That’s not Ishige’s fault.

Walker might have had a ‘good’ game but his crossing was poor.

What makes our team crap is it isn’t playing to the strengths we have. And then we blame the players who never had those attributes for not having them.

We still don’t know where Kelly-Heald, Sheridan or Piper will feature next season. Or what their primary focus should be in improving.

LBS is athletic with fast feet, but everything else says he is a teenager who is not ready

What Italiano said in the interview and his general demeanor was very concerning I think. Didn't give off a strong impression of someone who has a lot of leadership capabilities and certainly doesn't inspire from here on the couch.

Could be wrong about all this but thought it was interesting.

While the Kalezic season was statistically worse still in terms of points and wins, I'm starting to agree that in terms of fan experience this one may be worse, and that's coming from someone who went and sat through every home game that season.

We scored 11 goals at home this season. That is beyond poor. We scored double that at home in 17/18 even while getting stomped by every other team in the league.

Dunno about everyone else, but I don't really care about the difference of finishing 9th to finishing 11th - still means the same result, what matters to me is if we play fun football. Endlessly defensive football while still consistently losing is never going to convince anyone to show up and pay money to sit through. What an unenjoyable experience this season has been.

LBS and Walker are very patchy because of where they are in their career and being unable to defeat the lowest team in the A league with them as our wingers seems fair enough.

Watching that tonight I'd rate it as the worst phoenix squad I've ever seen.

We might as well let everyone go bar rufer and Kosta. And just start again.

Was only a couple of months ago Chief said it was still possible to make the play offs. Every game was going to be a final. Well he's managed to lose 7/10 of those... with a full squad and against some rubbish sides too.

I'm not holding my breath for next season. This one was an absolute insult. I can't even watch it anymore. Never have I been this disinterested in Nix games. There's no fire, no hunger, no desire in this team. Just a delusional coach dishing up the same bs week in week out.

Had heard it was a close call, but agree. We’ve not seen anything that has justified it. A lot is riding on this pre-season.

That would be great if we could do that but unfortunately, we have players contracted for next season and beyond.  A major problem is that we recruited 'Lemmons' and we have to suffer them again next season

The one and only positive from tonight was getting to meet the Glory travelling support at the Featherston after the game. Great bunch of people, and more than one of them remarked on our reputation for hospitality to away fans - I hope we can keep that up.

Other than that, off to Darwin we go, and well deserved.

And to think, despite all the disruptions in pre-season and not having Rojas available until the first derby, this season started alright.

Picked up some good away wins to Perth, CC, and Victory. Things went downhill for a while after the second derby loss, ugly win against the Jets at home, having to contend without Rufer for a decent number of matches, looked like our season was back on track with that comeback win away to Macarthur.

Then we lost Ball and eventually Rojas, got smashed in the final derby and there was no coming back. Chiefy honestly should've resigned or been sacked after that third derby. Geraldes a rare bright spot before his injury in the end phase of the season, especially against WS at home, have to try and keep him!

Take this season and throw it in the fire, still have to go to Darwin, Chiefy needs to fudgeing deliver in the off-season and the beginning of next season or else he's history, hopefully.

What an absolutely depressing result.  Losing to Perth wooden spooners!  We are the worst team in the league and will be for a other season.  Since reappointing Chief, we've lost two and scored no goals.   Do they think the fans will continue to suffer this?

Take out the first five rounds and we're below Brisbane and Perth. 3 wins in 5 then 3 wins in 21

I don't care who, I want to know why they made the call before the end of the season? Why not wait and then make the call?

Anyone else thinks that it's a waste for the team to goto Darwin? Just call the game now and save on the emissions.

We lose Zawada and Kraev and suddenly we’ve forgotten how to score. It’s like the game plan is “give it to Kosta and hope for a miracle,” and when that dries up, we’ve got nothing.

Things won't improve in Darwin either..another shot at a trophy already dead in the water

What is going to motivate these guys? Avoiding Darwin didn't, playing for pride hasn't, even the death of a season ticket holder hasn't.  Last year was the youtube guy.  We need someone to instill some belief into this group.

Yeah I was looking at the form tables on Transfermarkt and noticed this as well. Matchdays 6 to 29 we are bottom of the table.

A very huge cliff we fell off.

I was not at the game. I only miss games when I’m in vacation or my wife drags me to Mama Mia without checking the fridge magnet before buying the tickets, we won 5:1 v Victory that day 😂
This season took all joy out of it. And I’m sick of the excuses. To my credit, I was longer supporting the Nix than Rojas, who bailed out earlier and he got even paid for staying around.

Definitely, rather go straight to the off-season and not have to witness anymore of this boring, repetitive and uninspiring football.

Welnix missed the exit.  I was willing to give him another shot but these two results should be unacceptable.  Why not wait till the season was over to evaluate.  If we are honest they probably would have reached the same outcome

Completly agree said to someone for me this was the most unenjoyable season over all the shark ones us fans have had to put up with. Such a down right boring style of football and to watch them tonite barely talk to one another you wonder just whats ahead.
Bloody glad i dont have to think about it for a few months for once im glad its along off season.
Going to take some effort to recharge for another season of that shark.

that's true but if not lbs, it's walker or gsr. Ideally it would have been Marco, Cola, and/or a Chico.

The worst thing is, we set the bar so low, that I liked watching LBS more than most other players.

He did some fantastic plays and looked hungry to win.  And the fella is just 16.  He should be an incredible player by the time he's 18.

I've tried to be pretty optimistic this season, but fudge me that game was rooooough.

I love this club and love going to games, but Jesus, I did not enjoy that.

Now we get a break and pray for a better next season.

CCM was one spot above us and they were 1st in the league last year.  So it happens to heaps of us.  We turned to shark together!

Perth scored the least of anyone in the league this season  and conceded the most.

Puts tonight even more into perspective!

New players have to be persuaded to come here .

Hmm, could be interesting.

I think they should just pay him out tbh and find a new coach. Admit they made a mistake, it's only a 1yr contract they'd have to pay.

I have nothing against Chief, but we really need a change as a club. This happens all the time in professional spot, it's not personal, we just need a fresh start and to bite the bullet.

I've lost almost all desire to watch matches these days too, even though I still do and support the team 100%. It's just getting so difficult to keep watching.
Well that was a drab way to end the season.
Cheify rolls out his "strongest" lineup and sub one of his imports at half time - and I thought Nagaswa had done ok.
A dead rubber game, nothing on it, you've got your contract extension - surely you try and show the fans something different? But no, we get delivered the same losing shark we've had all season. I hope to god Italiano heard the "we're fudgeing shark" chant, along with the "it's only 1-0" - those are pretty clear messages to the coach that his "fluid footy" plan isnt enjoyable to watch. He doesnt even seem to be that interested in watching for most of the game. Hands in pockets leaning against the "dugout".
Oh well he has the FFA qual tourney in Darwin and the off season to turn it around. Should have at least 1 import slot to fill with Wootton going, and a LB slot to fill - not that I'm unhappy to see Sutton going - he demonstrated last night why he's decent but nothing special - and yes Im aware he's been one of our better players this year, but along with Piper - who is a decent footballer and again has done well for us this year - neither should be starting.

I think the club has underrated the fans this season. Club management has been practically invisible, what was it, 1x press conference and a short Q+A at an exclusive members night all season? They even photoshopped a 'Chiefy Out' sign when they announced his contract extension.

Reading through this thread you have core fans completely uninspired and bored watching their own team. I agree this is worse than the Kalezic era. If the core fans are feeling uninspired, imagine how the average punter/casual fan feels? Good luck reaching an 8-10k average next season...

Chiefy is supposed to set the example as coach, how can he expect his team to show up when he as a coach shows clearly that he's checked out in the dug-out (Compare this games body language to last season's run in to the end of the season). It's also a slap in the face to the fans that re-arranged their weekend to attend the game and support their club.

Alas, Chiefy will get the pre-season to rebuild and hopefully not fall-out with a new group of players. If he does and results don't go his way early, another manager will come in an inherit a squad that isn't his... There are a few decent coaches available at the moment (Talay, Veart, Des etc.) but who knows who will be available by that time.

I agree with this and I've said it before. The club hasn't kept up with the market and tried to innovate. A day at the football needs to be more than just what's happening on the field. Look at Auckland... huge fan engagement and initiatives to make the day exciting!

So when on the field is rubbish you really notice there isn't much else too it!

It would take an exceptional coach to get good results with the squad we had (the squad we ended up having, after injuries and mutual terminations).
Chiefy did well with an excellent squad last year and did poorly this season with this squad.   If he is staying on, we need to spend money on better player recruitment.
Quality replacements for Zawada, for Kraev, for Pennington, and now for for Al-Taay, for Ball, for Sutton and for Wooton.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
