I think it's doubtful if many if any will turn out v. NZ- three from Major League Soccer are confirmed for the two Cuba games this week and thus are coming here as well.
They're the only overseas players in the Jamaican training squad currently in camp for the Cuba games on Thursday 23 12pm (NZ time) and Saturday 25 1.30 pm (NZ time)

Jamaican fans hope others will join the squad for the trip to Auckland- but nothing's been announced...

Some Jamaican fans' informed opinion is that from the mostly local squad for the two Cuba games listed here: http://www.jamaicafootballfederation.com/v1/2012/02/13/senior-mens-training-camp-in-preparation-for-jamaica-vs-cubanew-zealand-friendlies/
most will be replaced by overeas stars for the trip to NZ:

Marklon calm down, only a fraction of these players will be named to the squad for the New Zealand friendly. The selection above which imo are the best the RSPL has to offer will be on call for our 2 Cuba friendlies plus the other Non-Fifa match day against Kosta Rica.

Hopefully the full Jamaica squad will be in Auckland by Feb. 26th so they have time to get over the jet lag.

Confirmation from the leading Jamaican Observer newspaper that more overseas-based stars will be called up v. NZ:

"Jamaica are also set to play a second game against Cuba at the Catherine Hall Stadium two days later at 7:30 pm, before departing the following day for the long haul flight to Auckland, New Zealand, for their friendly against that country on February 29.

For that game Whitmore is hoping for a stronger team which would include players from Scandinavia and the United Kingdom."

Players in the squad for the NZ match so far based on their club websites:

F Omar Cummings (Colorado Rapids, MLS)

F Ryan Johnson (Toronto FC, MLS)
M Rudi Austin (SK Brann, Norway)

Add to these guys the Houston Dynamo pair from MLS of Jevaughn Watson (M) and Jermaine Taylor (D) already in camp for the Cuba matches:

Would be really annoyed if Nelsen pulled out of this game considering they have a strong side to pick from. Nelsen is a key reason I'm getting tickets and I think the fact they said he was playing and now he could pull out is a bit misleading and may hurt ticket sales.

Sounds like a NO for Nelsen. Completely understandable....Spurs have mega important games against Arsenal and Man U, they have two CBs under injury clouds. Disappointing though it is I can't see Spurs happy about Nelsen leaving for a friendly.

Winston and Smith and Boxall can do the business. Winston especially has really upped his game this season.

Spurs fans on the other hand would probably be happy for him to be released to play the friendly.

Can Herbert call Boxall into the squad at this late notice?

Captian Fantastic was never going to play...
If he was at Blackburn he was injured
now he is playing well against Stevenge

Feck him..

I know I will get slammed but Im pissed that he picks and chooses when to play.

Yes.

It's an important game in the scheme of our World Cup Campaign, an important game for engagning with the NZ public.  Every chance he's going to benched again at Spurs and he can sit on a bench after a flight with no issues.

Plenty of other Kiwis and Jamaicans will make the flight.  He should just suck it for once and think of the importance of the match in the scheme of the game and the side.

yeah especially when you hear how many are going to super rugby, warriors and even the breakers.

And yet still people are saying there should be a second A-League team from NZ based in Auckland.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/6461875/Nelsen-shines-at-Spurs-in-doubt-for-All-Whites/

"His efforts will have caught the eye of manager Harry Redknapp ahead of two key Premiership fixtures, leaving in doubt his availability for the All Whites' friendly international against Jamaica in Auckland on February 29.

Third-placed Tottenham will play arch rivals Arsenal this weekend and second-placed Manchester United shortly after the Jamaica friendly.

Tottenham have delayed their approval of Nelsen's attendance at the friendly.

New Zealand Football boss Grant McKavanagh said despite the game falling in the FIFA window, they will not force Nelsen to play."

I'd say he will be benched for the match at the Library, but will probably make a start against Man U and again a few days later against Stevenage.

Not sure on how Kaboul's knee is coming along, but I'd say King and Dawson against Woolwich then King rested for another week, so it will be Dawson and Nelsen against Man U and then who knows for Stevenage.

Someone should tell them their options.  Available can play vs Man U.  Not available, can't.

Tough to dump on Nelsen.....how much say does he have.?

NZF says that Ryan wants to come...we have to take that at face value.

If Rednapp says to Nelsen.." we play the Arse and Man U next week...I want you here to cover for my injured CBs"
What is Nelsen meant to say..."Ferk you Harry...I'm off to Auckland"?

He will be under immense pressure to stay. He will want to do the right thing for the club and hopefully get another 12 months contract extension.

What would you do in Nelsens place?.....I would stay.

I think people can rightly choose to not take what nelsen says at face value, after all these years.

But I don't think he believes he is going to get dropped anyway,he'll be seeing it as a chance to establish himself in the side and to earn a contract for next season. For once, I don't blame him for not playing this game.

Him playing for Sours and getting a starting spot against Man U, would do just about as much to raise footballs profile in NZ as actually playing against Jamiaca.

Once he's settled, playing regularly, I'm sure he'll make himself available for the All Whites, but whilst he's new to a club and trying to earn an extension on his contract, we shouldn't be his first priority.

Love him to play, but will not begrudge him if he doesn't.

They can ensure that Nelsen plays if they really want to go down that road. But judging from McKavangh's comments, they're not going to rock the boat.

I'm very excited, only a week and 1hr 12 minutes to go!

Would love to see Nelsen play, but if he has to stay then thems the breaks.  Will miss his immense coaching ability .

Hes only got a short term deal and those upcoming spurs games are fairly important

If it's a choice of him playing against jamacia or potentially playing one further season in the premiership and in Europe with a top club, I would take the later

The longer we can keep the captain interested and playing at the highest level, the better it is for NZ football

What's the chance reid next to pull pin? You think Big Sam wants him flying out on Saturday after playing crystal palace and returning the day before a crunch game away to Cardiff the next Sunday.

If Reid and Nelsen both pulled out I would probably request my money back. NZ football has said they are playing and if both of them are not then I call false advertising. And yes, they can force them to play. Its not out of their hands.

Hmm- am I a hypocrite if I think it's ok for Nelsen to stay, but really think Reid has to come?

Though would be great to watch a game with our strongest team...

I have held this view for a long time, but neither Reid or Nelsen should have to fly 24,000 miles in a week for a Mickey Mouse game against a Jamaician (as the Wharfies spell it) team, especially with such important league games around it.

This is the start of our World Cup campaign??  Is that the one that has our only proper competitive games in about November 2013 when we have the play-off?

And anyone who bought their ticket because they really wanted to see Nelsen play (having no idea that he may not actually come) gets absolutely no sympathy from me.

I would have bought my ticket regardless, I would return it simply because I would be annoyed at New Zealand football. They said they were going to play knowing full well they probably weren't. And my purchase was worth 4 tickets, 1 for my girlfriend and 2 for some other guys that wouldn't have gone but are because i'm going up.
