Kirwan?  Really ? SMH? Good for media angle I suppose

Being training camp fodder is not the same as being in the squad. Its a low cost option to see if he stacks up against others.

In defence of his selection (and I agree, its left field) I present to you Moses Dyer.

is it low cost. He is Welli gton based.  But yes The Dyer one called Moses trumps all

has a family base in Auckland as well so bit of a moot point that one.

Are you alluding to some kind of quiet professionalism going on? Niko is a uni student, so probably a miracle he is up for the middle of the day.

rumour has it that Team Wellington / Miramar messed up Saul Halpin's visa so he's off back to the uk and won't be at tw this summer, much the same as the Ben Harris situation.

Can confirm have heard this is true with the Halpin situation. Very unfortunate. Who will replace Harris?

I believe Harris was returning for repairs on one of his legs which spent most of the season heaverly bandaged.

Correct, but with no fixed plans to return. TW shouldn't rely on him coming back and, if he does, expect Tasman to put a lot of effort into signing him.

Think you're right if he does come back he'll go to Tasman.

heard TW have signed Kilkolly

did not someone in The Tasman thread say Harris would have gone to them for last season if they had of asked him correctly?

Ben said that himself, albeit a little tongue in cheek. He's close friends with people on the board of TU (Stu Reid, who helped bring him to NZ initially) and loves the region. He's also been recruiting for Richmond Athletic - watch out for Joey Turner who's scored 18 in 5 games in Nelson 1st Div and looks nailed on for TU.

I was under the impression it was the Richmond coach who brings the players out? Contacts made from his time in the UK?

Matt Campbell, 1st team manager was the initial contact. Stu was president of the club at the time so had a hand in everything and he and Ben became good frineds through it. When the TW season finished Ben's went to Nelson and was getting paid to paint the Richmond Athletic clubrooms and playing for them until he headed back to the UK.

rumour has it that José wanted 3 ole player for this coming summer, however Declan would only let them play if he was made the assistant coach. Safe to say those players haven't been released from ole

So (allegedly) he's deliberately holding his kids back, so he can bargain for personal gain (the assistant coach role). Interesting.

I'd guess the view inside ole towers would be that better the kids were in the NYL with ole-lead coaching, rather than under another system they don't control. National League is not the goal for their players, just a vehicle for ongoing purposeful training.

Declan trying to play Assistant Manager to anyone would be a fun thing to watch. There's no way he wouldn't try to take over and run the show.

And you know what. Fair enough. Those players aren't children. If they don't like it they will leave Ole.

One thing I've generally liked about Declan is his consistency. His tune doesn't change.

He has let players go to play National League in the past; Tyler Lissette to Waibop and TeeDeubs, Tinashe Marowa to Tasman and Harry Edge to ACFC.

I have no knowledge of his coaching and training style (Results of the lads on the park this year say it works) - But do see his side line behavior at a few games per year and it not a good example for u19's and the lower academy players who come to watch.

Don't understand this post either. TW Youth was a mix of Ole players and non Ole players (about 50:50 from memory), so half had never experienced Ole coaching. Weren't Youth coaches one of the other Ole coaches and someone from Miramar?. So it was like any rep team - a bunch of players coming together for a coupe of months under coaches they hardly knew.

Team Wellington Youth squad announced here:

http://www.twfc.co.nz/news-2/2016/9/19/team-wellin...

14 x Ole

6 x Lower Hutt

3 x Miramar

3 x Petone

2 x Island Bay

1 x Wellington United

1 x Karori

Is 30 players the usual squad size for this ?..Seems like a lot for 9 x games. Suppose a few can just enjoy the training ;-)

Main coaches were Ben Sippola (Wests/Ole) and Rupert Crump (Mar), Declan was there also, officially as an assistant

As with whoever it was in the the other thread complaining about the behaviour of the Ole kids at a game do you have an example or are you just making a statement with nothing to back it up ?

I've been to the vast majority of MCL games the last two years and in that time I've also seen him at TWY, U17, G14, G13 and G12 games (plus hundreds of Ole training sessions) and I've never seen anything I wouldn't have wanted my son to see, or be on the end of.

In the three years we've been at Wests/Ole I've seen nothing other than someone utterly convinced in his approach and unapologetic in his pursuit of producing young NZ footballers playing fantastic football. I have nothing but respect for how he handles himself on the sideline and the training ground.

It's time people took off their blinkers and reassesed their opinions but this is NZ and that doesn't happen here does it ?
