Coliseum Sports - EPL Overlords

I've been watching this thread since day one. The conclusions I have come to after reading mostly negative experiences are:

1] Money driven? In reality don't give a shit about the fans but rather that they got one "over" Sky.

2] That pic quality is absolute shit and when you get a BIG game like Manure V Arse, that it will be worse because of the number of fans trying to get it "Live" v the broadband width available.

3] I would recommend going through the various club's "own TV setup"

4] And as this quality is now appearing more often than when it first started, someone needs to be held accountable.

5] It genuinely saddens me to say this but...A fool and their money are easily parted. These guys have taken advantage of the passion of genuine football fans. They should be run out of Dodge so to speak.

Tegals silence has been deafening recently. I wonder if he is still trying to watch Saturday's games

Still had absolutely no problems with it, and am loving it.

Those who have negative experiences are always going to be more vocal than those who have positive ones.

How many years did they get the rights for? Was hoping it was just a one-off..

3 years I believe. I have held off getting it. I thought I'd give it a season of wait and see.

it has been frustrating at times BUT to be able to see the Mighty Tigers each week (with increasingly good picture quality, but a few too many freezes! - that mean going back to the start and dragging the bar forward!! -  & a naff early finish)

overall - it still comes up as an ok spend for me

the twitter responses have improved

on one occasion they were pathetically late with the preview show i..e sometime after 6.30 pm on saturday

as LG said of some of us --- I'm so desperate I'd watch it standing on my head with my feet on fire  (hope it doesn't come to that)

hope they sort out the freezing issues and get stuff up promptly

I suggest people try manually selecting the highest rate option rather than using the auto-thingee. To be honest, i haven't looked back. If anything, i find on the high bitrate option the picture is now very little different to sky hd on my 40" tv in bedroom. I watch most games there anyway, rather than the lounge, via an Intel NUC. Having Fibre probably helps.

I need to sort out the legal streaming option for A-League which is out of the UK(ok so i am paying, but pretending to be in the UK), and i am cancelling sky. I just don't use it anymore.

Ive woken up to watch the arsenal game and after logging in I am getting timeout messages and cant watch the game. To say im fucking fuming would be an understatement. Fuck you premierleaguepass you pack of cocksuckers. I fucking hate you. Give me my money back, now.

Your faqs tell me that this message means I am likely signed on more than one device. Firstly, im not. Secondly, why the fuck wouldnt u have a message saying 'you are signed in on more than one device'?

This is fucking amateur hour. How can u build a website that people pay for and make it so obviously shit?

Did I say fuck you already?

Clear cookies and cache?

I have had that happen to me twice. Only while watching highlight shows thankfully.

Logging out, restarting browser usually worked from memory. If it keeps happening then yeah try clearing cookies and cache I suppose.

A definite bug they need to somehow sort though.

Cookies/cache, whatever, it's a two day old tablet ffs. So i woke up at 6.30, logged on, same device, nothing different whatsoever, and it worked. Of course the score came up in front of my face as soon as I logged in so that was a nice 2nd punch in the face from these muppets. I know u can disable that but i never had since i always watch live. I knew it would happen but slightly misplaced my covering hand and that was that. What i want to know is why they bother displaying the score at all, there's really no reason, people go there to watch games, not check results. Anyhow i still watched the game, but man am I pissed off. Apologies to all for my sweary post earlier, but I do stand by it, I am seriously angry. Took me an hour to get back to sleep after that debacle.

I had no problem with this service until the last two rounds. The fact is if people are paying you $150 to use your website, it better be freaking good, and reliable. I expected to be able to watch my team play live every week, I didnt care about quality or anything else, all I wanted was live football. They couldnt deliver, so I hate them.

Ah. They said on twitter that they did have problems with the app. Then 20mins later said it was fixed. Seemed like a one off hopefully. Default should be to hide scores for sure, can hardly blame them for you not setting it though :p

In my opinion, best case scenario would be for these guys to go under, sell the rights back to sky at a cut price, and sky would not make the mistake again of taking football fans for granted, so would screen all games live across multiple channels.
I hate sky, I loved it that these guys pulled one over on them, but their substandard product has eroded my goodwill very quickly.

I thought it would be a cold day in hell before I said something like that!

Fair enough.

I've never really had a bad experience with the service, so mine is that they do it in HD and perhaps expand into other competitions that we don't currently get through sky. They got a couple of qualifiers earlier in the season which was cool. Hopefully they continue to improve the service so that it is more reliable, and perhaps the soon (hopefully) to be better Internet in nz will help that too.

Or if they can't do it, hopefully someone else steps in who can make a good go of it.

Any competition to sky is good. Though I can understand how you would disagree right now given your bad experience in the last 2 weeks.

I have the scores on because I watch live, but their shit app prevented that last night. I never have a need to turn them off unless their service causes problems. They should be off by default when you log on, obviously - that's just a simple user friendly idea that any decent designer would think of. But user friendly is obviously not their strong point. I dont use twitter, and at no point during registration did they tell me to follow twitter for updates/news. Where was an email last night? God knows they have my address after the early bombardment.

And have you read their faqs? An absolute joke. Their website is poorly set out, poorly built, and clearly it's not even worth mentioning the android app.

Another point to add, even if they'd told me about the 20 minute issue, I know from last week's shambles that I wouldnt have been able to scroll back to the beginning anyway.

I think it says it all that any supporters of plp have slowly eroded right down to just you tegal. And you can stop trying to blame me for this, right now. I'm hardly an expert but I know my technical knowledge must exceed that of many plp users, be interesting to see what the 60+ year old generation think of their experience by now.

Just read your last post tegal so will add, not intending to have a go at u at all, please dont take offence from my last paragraph - im just pretty angry at the minute thats all ;)

Didn't think I was blaming you. I said scores should be hidden as default. I said I understand you wouldn't agree with me because you've received a shit service. I've just never experienced anything really bad from them except the log in issue when watching a highlight show, twice - so of course I'm still loving it.

Good point that they should have sent an email out about the app problem, it was also very vague on twitter too. Communication is definitely something they need to work a lot on. I've had my issues with them in the past in that regard - rudeness on twitter, inconsistent messages about the on demand games from different people. Though then one of the main guys who ran it emailed me to clear it all up, which was kind of cool I suppose.

Wouldn't say I'm a fan, I enjoy the service. Couldn't care less if they go under, but I do like the competition, the online platform and the potential for extra content that those two things bring. If someone can come in and do a better job of that the coliseum then that'd be brilliant, or if coliseum can improve their service, then that'd be good too.

All SKY had to do was implement a red button service. Watch the game you want. That's it. No would would have had a complaint. Now, all PLP have to do is get a picture quality like SKY. Fingers crossed for next season.

Not sure if red button sky is the same in NZ as UK but over here the picture quality is always shite when you red button Champions League matches.

of course you can, I've got it set to record, along with all the team tv shows via sky....no rain fade, lagging or quality issues here!

Good experience on the iPad this morning. Clicked on the link to watch the Everton/Spurs game and it jumped straight to the players shaking hands and then the team lineups without the pre-game graphics, team lining up in the tunnel etc which suited me just fine.

Picture quality was good all the way through, save for about a 60sec period where it turned very pixelated, but corrected itself and was fine.

I watched Arsenal vs Liverpool on Sunday about 11am with a friend. I've hardly used the service but I had earned my second free pass from them for 24 hours.

We were less than impressed, especially given it was a recap not live. The game itself wouldn't pre buffer, but kept skipping forward to catch up. I get why this occurs for live events, but it's not OK for when you're watching what is effectively a replay. Bottom line for me is I'm definitely pro Sky getting the rights back, especially because the cost is additional to keeping the Sky Sport subscription.

I am in the pro-SKY camp too, but I've slagged PLP off here when things go wrong, so thought I should balance the ledger when I have a decent experience...

Nothing at all wrong with that DR... balance is a good thing...

I wonder IF Sky do get it back, they then create a football channel and pump us for another $10-20/month... given my experiences with PLP, I couldn't give it to them quick enough.

Just to put my two cents in - watched four games over the weekend with little to no problems.  A couple of pauses but nothing for longer than 5 seconds with about two of those per game.  I'm not a tech guy so I've got no idea why I'm not really having issues while others are.  As others suggested earlier in this thread, perhaps the service came along a little too early for the NZ internet to handle it.

Interesting to see PLP offer an upgrade to Plainum for $49 for the remainder of the season. Along with free day passes seemingly reasonably attainable and a survey focused on 'what is stopping you from purchasing the product', you have to wonder if their numbers are quite as good as they've been spouting...

It makes sense that they do that part way through the season doesn't it? They'll drop the yearly subscription price soon enough.

Free day passes are a great idea, and I said earlier in the season that they should be doing more of it. As it invites people to trial the completely new product - marketing 101. Good to see they're doing it tbh.

Their biggest problem is an unreliable supplier/delivery system that they have no control over - the Internet in nz.

I'll elaborate on that. This is an Internet business and they walked into this market and internet infrastructure fully aware of its capabilities. If they didn't they were dumber then dumb and dumber. The issue is not the Internet but the product they have developed. Marketing 101 Tegal, product part of the 4 p's.
