Annoying because it looks really good on the laptop so don't understand why that doesn't translate properly to the TV. And I want to watch it on my big TV, not my laptop. Was hoping there were some settings on the computer that could make a difference.

I know it's more coin, but if you have an iPad/iPhone/iPod then an Apple TV is a great way to watch it , they usually $149, but saw them for $118 at either HN or JB's recently...

Strange how late they're leaving it.

Yeah season starts 16th August, so 2nd week of August is between 9 & 2 days from start of season. That is crazy late....

For contrast NFL GamePass is already asking for new sign-ups from July 1st (Season starts Sept 7)

Thought the smart thing to do would've been to start pushing for subscriptions on the back of the World Cup. This strategy will see subscriptions be quite slow to begin with, and from there its pretty hard to get them to pick up.

Unfortunately I don't have any apple device (well an ipod classic but that's no use here), or a Samsung TV so none of the apps are any use to me. Not really willing to buy the extra devices just for this purpose when I already have a 2012 TV and fairly new phone. Does Apple TV make it a flawless viewing experience on the TV? Does it have to be used with another apple device?

Yes - Apple TV uses 'Airplay' which basically mirrors what's on your device (ipod/ipad etc) onto the TV.

Another thing you could try which i had to do when using my laptop was use an ethernet cable rather than the wireless signal. So basically plug an ethernet cable into the slot in your laptop and the other end into the router itself. This might be a problem if the router is a considerable distance from your  laptop and TV of course.

The signal strength is much stronger this way, although does seem strange that you've had no issues with the other services you use...

I loathed the service for the first few months but then as they got their shit together and improved their service i found it was a great experience although I'd have to say the picture on-screen isn't quite as good as say HD Sport with Sky, although it's pretty close. Secondly I don't always have 2 hours to watch a game, so used to love the fast forward on SKY, and I really miss that. The forward 30 sec button just doesn't cut it...

Good luck

Absolutely. I have a PS3 and PS4 so would be happy with an app for either, just like with TVNZ On Demand. I have asked them but they have just said they don't know whether there will be apps for games consoles in the future. I assume the deal with Samsung prohibits Sony or Microsoft apps now.

Thanks for the info. The router is a bit far from the TV (there is actually a phone point next to the TV but the wiring is a bit dodgy and it's really slow when connected to this one - the best phone point is in another room), but yeah not had the same issues with other streaming services.

The thought now occurs that my partner has just got an Ipod Touch so the Apple TV thing may in fact be an option. Does Apple TV work with that too? I assume the Touch can use the same apps as Ipad or Iphone.

'early bird' in 2nd week of august is just mental

These guys not making me feel confident, despite the service being excellent once the teething issues went away last year.

On the other hand I'm very interested to hear of a discount for 1st year subscribers, you little beauty.

I would assume so - i've only used an iPad and iPhone but see no reason that a late model iPod Touch wouldn't work...

The bugger is, that a mate gifted me a pass he won last year. He's a Man Yoo fan so just watched MUFC TV on Sky. This year I'll have to buy my own at full price unless I can barter with them. Wonder if they'll go for that...

You'd have to think there will be groups of people, maybe 2-4 who will share a login... You can't watch at the same time, but unless you all support the same team that's not an issue I'd guess...

It's what I'm planning to do - go halves with my Dad and we'll just coordinate to not be logged in at the same time. Plus we support different teams and he's retired so has a lot more time.

Well some of these messages are not exactly a ringing endorsement for the supplier. 2nd week of August is just stupid. Should have been August 1st and allow you time to get any issues resolved. not very customer focussed. Makes me nervous about signing up.

When they ARE up and running, they are generally great to deal with particularly through Twitter. Run good competitions, a weekly preview email and generally a bit of banter. If it's anything like last year, the product and the service (when up and running) are well worth the investment.

Yeah they were pretty awful and saying some stupid sh*t on social media early on. They seemed to learn from it as the year went on, while still being a bit edgy.

They were function first, marketing/comms/customer second which initially saw people shy away. they turned it around in second half of the year and I'd say a lot of users were quietly chuffed with the service and advocates for it (like my good self).

Agree with that comment from the General PLP Pass Twitter feed, but that comment I posted on the bottom of the previous page was from the CEO.

Aware of that. Not going to judge a company on its CEO - if most football fans did that, no one would have any supporters.

Jumping in a bit late here, but try turning the resolution on your laptop down to something smaller than Full HD (1920x1080). I found that having it at a resolution that high caused my laptop to not be able to deal with the high quality stream of PLP, so it would lower to frame rate in order to be able to cope. Lowering the resolution meant it was able to cope with the stream much better as it wasn't having to do as much work to render the larger image, which meant the stuttering disappeared completely and the stream looked much better (even though it is lower resolution).

In saying that, my preferred way to watch PLP is via iPod Touch airplayed to an Apple TV. The last thing I want to do at 2am is have to fumble around setting my laptop up, and I found that the Apple TV actually looked better than my laptop plugged into the TV, even when I got a flashy new laptop that didn't have the stuttering problem.

That makes sense, because your laptop will be built to handle the graphics on it's own monitor well, but when you plug in the HDMI cable it has to do a whole bunch of extra work to display on the extra screen.

This today...

Hello, and welcome to the second season of Premier League Pass. We are aware that there is a growing chorus out there looking for information about what the subscriptions for the 2014-15 season are going to look like.

Many are also wondering where the new site is and the short answer is that 2013-14 subscriptions are still valid which means, just like a new Spurs manager or want-away striker, we are all just having to see out the final few days of the old season before the transfer window opens.

In the meantime some details on what you can expect and plan for in the weeks ahead before the new season commences…

$199. This is the price for the full season of Premier League Pass. Unlike last year there is no Basic or Platinum, everyone gets everything. All the highlights and shows that were hidden away in the Highlights tab will now be there for all.

$19.90is what you can select as a per month payment if you prefer to spread the cost out over the full year.

If you just want to try us out for a week or a month at a time then it will be$19.90and$49.90respectively

Until August 31st an early-bird renewal option will exist for those who came on board as subscribers last season. As reward for being early adopters this will be at the same price of the Basic Package from last year,$149, as a one off payment only.

Something that we are very excited about is that, in conjunction with NZ Football, we are offering clubs the chance to use selling Premier League Pass subscriptions as a fundraiser. At the end of the season we will give 20% of the value of subscriptions sold through the year by each individual club direct back to the club.

On subscribing to any of the non-discounted packages you will have the ability to choose your local club to match against your subscription. Club people, keep an eye out as NZ Football will have more information shortly.

See you all on August 16.

They're calling the month-by-month option 'The Arsenal Option', as it perfectly suits those optimistic AFC fans who inevitably have high hopes in August, but are keen to unsubscribe in December, when (equally inevitably) their title hopes have been extinguished once again.
