Plus there's then having to buy Apple TV or a Samsung device to be able to watch it properly.

Normo's coming home
They're calling the month-by-month option 'The Arsenal Option', as it perfectly suits those optimistic AFC fans who inevitably have high hopes in August, but are keen to unsubscribe in December, when (equally inevitably) their title hopes have been extinguished once again.
Is a Liverpool option available (watch every month except May)?
Tottenham option (the more you spend the worse your experience is)?
The Manchester United option: Where you spend as much money as you can to get a high quality product, but then realise it was actually your old TV that was holding things together all along, and things just haven't been the same since he left. You upgrade your TV the following season.

Great read.
I can't wait for the ding dong battle next year over the All Blacks rights.

The sooner these guys get the rights to the A-League, the better.
The QPR option: half price, but payable only in cheques made out to Rosie. Also known as the "I ain't no wheela deela" payment plan.

But you would be able to watch it. In more ways than just sitting in front of the TV.
In fact, the internet is probably more accesible to more people than SKY TV is.

Sky can keep the rights to Phoenix games (since their broadcast teams needs to produce the coverage), but if the rest of the rights go to Coliseum you'll actually be able to watch more A-League than you could on Sky, since Sky have a habit of just deciding not to show games.

We have one TV in our house that has a MySky box attached to it. We have 14 other devices in the house that have access to the internet and therefore have access to PremierLeaguePass. The internet shits all over Sky in terms of accessibility (and don't anyone try to argue that Sky GO adds accessibility to Sky, since we can only get that on 3 of those 14 devices and it's impossible to watch live content on it because it is so shite).

Did you just go and count the amount of devices in your home to make a point? Because that's impressive and I applaud your commitment.
However, Sky is accessible to every home in the country whereas broadband, and therefore streaming video, is not. This is assuming by accessibility you are talking about the ability to use the service, not affordability.
Is the signal any good in the rural areas that don't have broadband? And you'd need a ridiculous amount of data to be able to watch even 1 game weekly wouldn't you? Not that it matters to me. I just want to watch the games in HD on my TV without having to buy additional devices because the equipment I own, while all fairly new (2012 or newer), don't happen to be the right brand to get an app.
I don't need to pay sky a massive monthly fee to get it?
Do you have a Sky subscription currently?
Grumpy old bastard alert
yes. And pay them handsomely per month for it. To get the A league you need to pay sky a heap per month, therefore it is behind a sky paywall.
Not a hard concept.
in the long run, the more sport that is unbundled from sky in this way the better. Plus the prospect of actually getting the games live is a lot better than sky too. Would love it.

The way I look at it, I have a sky subscription I pay for, where the Phoenix IS included (unlike the recent PPVs which I had no issue paying for). It is not a benefit to me to remove that. You too have a Sky subscription so please explain to me how it is to your benefit to pay more to see the same product you pay for now? I know that there is the whole 'many devices and when I want' argument but the HAL broadcasts roughly run when they play.

Because then we can leave Sky completely. thus saving $100/month, and if we had to pay $100 a year for A-League streaming we are still saving over $1,000/year by not having Sky...

The other benefit would be that we would probably get some sort of pre/post match coverage. whereas Sky would rather show last weeks rugby replay...

Except I then have to pay $100 for the A League, $400 for the All Whites (probably more - someone has to pay for the production) $200 per Cricket Series, $50 for each youth/women's world cup sky now shows, $150 for the premier league....
I quite like being able to use sky's economies of scale to allow me to watch sport for a reasonable price. They could absolutely improve, but for me, splitting everything off piecemeal isn't the answer.
That's true. Admittedly, I probably don't care about that. I pay $1000 a year and don't really want to pay more. I find everything in one place, why make it more convoluted and pay more? My Sky subscription did not go down when these guys nabbed EPL....

I'd rather buy what I want than pay a huge fee for what I want + everything I don't want.
I am an unusual kiwi and (really) hate Rugby.
I watch football, football and some more football.
If i could pay for just what I wanted i'd jump at it.

games actually live.
Plus it may just make it worth getting rid of sky @ $1200 a year.
It's basically how I'd prefer to pay for my sport. To me, the problem isn't how these online guys are charging, it's how sky is.
In the long run as more sports are covered this way it represents much better value for money, and better quality service (MLB,NBA,NFL and EPL all have every game live - particularly for baseball that's A LOT). All in a system where you pay for what you actually want to watch and nothing more.

Isn't that sky's problem? Wouldn't breaking up their monopoly over sports coverage in nz with a bit of competition help solve that problem?

You have added up your devices Patrick, now add up how much they all cost you, tell us the cost and then we will tell you that Sky has just shat all over you
But he had those devices regardless, he didn't buy them all for watching PLP

Oh, sorry I forgot, add your premium league pass, a league pass, all white pass, Oceania qualifying pass, confederations cup pass and any other league/sport/ news you may be interested in to it as well
wasn't OFC TV only $10 or something ridiculously low?
Adding rough (and actual) costs of all the sports I watch, I can honestly say itd come out at less than $1200 a year. And for that I get much better value with every game live, plus highlights shows etc.
sky sport HD with mysky. $100 per month. $48+28+20+10 I think it is.
