No really WTF!!!

What I was ACTUALLY thinking was: Why has Rafa spent soo much time pursuing Barry? He isn't that much better than Alonso (if he is better at all) and we are really strong in the centre midfield. gerrard, mascher, Lucas, Plessis. I think it's a massive waste of money to splash out heaps of money in a position that we don't really need. Surely it's better to spend some of the supposed 18million pounds on a good winger? Silva? Van Der Vart? The whole Barry thing annoys me

It looks as if Rafa doesn't think he needs to strengthen on the wings.

By the looks of his purchases he wants the L and R backs to play as wing backs and make more overlapping runs down the flanks.

Yeah, really didn't make sense. Although Van der Vaart is a left footed Central midfielder, who can play on the left, same as Barry.

I hope we try and get Silva though, rumoured to be going to Bar�a �25m.

Smashed Rangers today 4-0 (Torres, N'Gog, Benayoun, Alonso). Torres and Keane started up front.  Benayoun is playing well, suppose all the players that are being shopped want to either move on or show their worth.

Good to see N'Gog get a goal, hopefully one of many and a future star. So many players have come through with a lot of potential and moved on without fulfilling it. One that I'm quite disappointed with is Florent Sinama-Pongolle, thought he was good, great touch, good dribbling, good speed.

Still remember him for playing so well in the Olympiakos game in the CL in 04/05. He's now at Atletico Madrid after staring for Recreativo. Also wish Le Tellac got more of a shot, but he's really amounted to nothing, suppose both Houllier signings.

Agree Linds. I liked him too. He had flair too, i reckon its good to have those players with some creativity English players are too workmanlike. 4-0 is a good result against rangers. Where did you see it?

!!! I haven't seen that possibility mentioned anywhere, where did you see it? Juve were the only team I had seen linked to Alonso but that fell through.

Rafa keeps saying that he has to sell before he can buy Barry but even as little as 2 days ago he has said that does not necessarily mean that he will sell Alonso.

I would be disappointed to see us sell any player to a top 4 rival. You wouldn't see them do it. I mean just remember old red noses reaction when we tried to buy Heinze.

PS. Speaking of fringe players, I see this morning that Sebastian Leto has had his work permit application denied.

yeah heard about Leto, he is contracted to us for 5 years though isn't he? Could be a good player in the future huh. Alonso link on SkySports and BBC yesterday. Would be gutted if Rafa sold him to them but can'y actually imagine it happening.

Leto is off on loan to Olympiacos for two seasons.

Good win over Valerenga over night. Highlights here ig you're interested. All good goals, 2 in 2 games for both Torres and Ngog. Ngog could be the buy of the season if he keeps scoring like that.

Why it's good to be Rafa:

Beat Lazio, still undefeated in pre-season. Voronin scoring, hopefully he can either keep this up, or (what I want) inflate his price so some Bundesliga team pays a few million for him.

Barry was suppose to sign by the end of this week

yeah be surprised if we sign Barry now. looks as if the yanks are unable to raise anymore cash.

Im confused about Voronin, is he good or what? HE did spend heaps of time last year injured so maybe he's better than I thought. I wouldnt care if we didnt sign barry....maybe a last ditch effort to sign David Villa would be ok! Can't wait for the season to start. I hear on the rumours site that there could be some more issues with our owners...I;m over that business

Rafa has said one more player to Liverpool he is english and he is a left sided player but he won't say who.

The rumours are that it could be Joe Cole, or Downing. imo it won't be any of these players. More than likely Barry will sign at the last minute. Hopefully we don't have to sell Alonso to make this happen.

I heard someone somewhere say that the rule of having a limited amount of englishmen per team will never happen because it is restriction of trade? i don't know about that stuff but sounded good to me! Silva would be great, sow ould Joe Cole but I don't see that happening....unless Chelsea get kaka or Roobinho.

Michael Johnson maybe on the market. Still, don't think we need another central midfielder (although Mashcerano and Lucas are at the Olympics). But Rafa seems desperate to land one, and I'd rather we spent it on Johnson rather than Barry.

Saw Roy Keane say if we sign Barry then we will be favourites for the league, I have a lot of respect for Keane as a manager, but I don't agree with him on this.

On the Kaka' thing, AC a mulling over whether to sell him, because of his knee tendinitis (supposedly he will always be hampered by this and will never fully recover). Also don't want/like Joe Cole, hated him for scoring against us...

I've heard the Reina pulled one back which may have been over the line...haven't been able to look at those clips yet, but has anybody seen it? Was it in?

Too hard to tell from the replays I've seen. I tend to think (of course I am biased) that the whole ball had not crossed the line. Certainly there was no way that the officials could have given it as a goal.

Weak result..still early days. Still time for Gareth Barry, Joe Cole, James Milner, David Silva, David Villa, Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry to make a difference!!!

This transfer stuff has been doing my head in, Robbie for 21mil! Barry for 18mil, there's no way he's worth that but that what Villa want (which is fair enough). In my opinion Rafa needs to look for an out and out left winger, then maybe a right winger if he's got some change left over.

Watched the highlights last nite, I think if ya can win when ya play sh*te (like the other top 3 do alot) then we have agreat chance this year, mind you i have said that for the last 7 - 8 seasons.
