Gerrard and Torres both passed fit.

So much for ruling himself out

Job well done. Just need city to do the same to Chelski.

Overseas for work at the mo' so got to watch this one live (sorry to rub it in nairny).

Bloody good game, we dominated for long periods and a great result. Old red nose looked like he was going to explode towards the end.

Not only that but we did it without Torres and Gerrard for most of the game.

Here's hoping for a boring draw between Chelski and City.

Well worth the wait.

Man U started off playing brilliant football, but only lasted about 10 minutes. Alonso Mascherano dominated the middle. Kuyt, Keane worked and linked up well. Both probably should have scored. Also Arbeloa and Aurelio overlapped well. Played amazing today, don't know how we played so poorly before this.

Not sure why Babel isn't starting but I'm happy if he can be a impact sub,, like he was today

Well that was our best performance of the season so far (which wouldn't be hard). I thought the scum looked good early, we were lucky with the oggy, but completely dominated the game from then on. I thought Riera had some excellent touches and will prove a good signing based on what i saw. Once we equalised Manure looked suprising subdued.

Its all good!

Based on that game I'll look forward to the return match at Old Trafford, I'm thinking there will be a lot of Man Utd supporters sweating on the return of Ronaldo after that performance!

Yep, but we showed that we can beat Man Utd without them. What has Man Utd shown they can do without Ronaldo?

Thanks, Chelsea impressed me as well, I'll be interested to see if Ronaldo plays against your lot next week. Also I see you'll both be a Centre Back down with Vidic and Terry both getting Red Cards, I understand Chelsea will appeal over Terry's though.

hopefully we do get that red card reversed, everyone i have talked with so far, even non-chelsea fans, seem to agree that it was a bad descision, it was a foul yes, but surely not a red card. as for vidic's card, he quite frankly got what he deserved. if ronaldo does return, i hope he doesnt make to much of an impact, although united's one man team hasent done very well without him. we shall see, we shall see.

Great win boys. Must be good to get that one off your back.

When city/chelsea were at 1-1 i was looking forward to seeing a table with Lpool and the mighty arse at the top... would've taken me back to the 88-91 days...

They did a good comparison on MOTD between Terrys' foul and the foul on Keane. Terry was clearly not the last defender and at least one other would have prevented Jo (I think that's who it was) from going all the way. On the other hand Keane had a good chance of a straight run in on goal and that was only a yellow. Some consistency would be nice.

Having said that, Terrys' was a blatant professional foul and anything they can do to stamp that sort of thing out should be encouraged.

As a United fan dissapointed with this loss today to Liverpool expecially considering the goals that we conceded. Og from brown because of Van der sar's stupidity for not diving on the ball. Dont know what the fk he was thinking. Then babels shot into the ground over our defenders. Alot of luk. However I believe Liverpool did deserve to win I just would have preferred them to win in a more appropriate fashion as apposed to conceding and own goal and Anyyyyone but Babel. Hate him. And yes ronaldo is back on wednesday for Villareal Clash. As for Terry wow wat a joke, definetely not a red. However thts great news for us!!!

What ever Pavlos8, WTF do you mean by more appropriate fassion?? A win is a win, and a wine is a wine (on behalf of all Man U fans). We were generally the better side accross the park mate, and i do recall alot of luck going United's way on several occasions over the last few years, so what goes around comes around mate..
We are top the league, say we are top the league. WHO ARE YA!!!!!!!

I most certainly won't...

Mind you a draw in the blue scum/red scum match next week and you would have a great chance to go top... and if my boys can take bolton down it'd be a lpool/arse top two. I like the sound of that. Im sick of being the bottom half of the big four as much as you are...

P.S. it's refreshing not to have someone jump down your throat after a comment like my previous one. Those chelsea boys can certainly be sensitive over there...

Just a note on the Terry send off.

He was red carded as the ref viewed it as serious foul play so it didn't matter if he was the last defender or not. That also means he has no chance of getting it overturned.

That puts it in the same category as say a 2 footed tackle.

I'm not going to comment.

Terry's tackle was a blatant foul. Ref saw it as a professional foul and sent him off.

Maybe if he didn't wrap his arms around him and looked like a semi genuine attempt to get the ball then he might of stayed on.

Champs League this week, not getting coverage till Friday (says espn)

Yikes!!!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Great win today, and from the looks of the highlights it should've been a lot more than 2 we put past Marseille.

Gerrards first was an absolute screamer. Looking solid

Northern Rock, AIG, XL Airways  and now Carlsberg all gone under (Yeah Right - Whoever heard of a brewer going belly up )

French law forbids the advertising of alcohol apparently including shirt sponsors names, so we had the non-named version.

If our ownership finally ends up with Arab money, it will be interesting to see if this Carlsberg  sponsorship is continued.  I understand it is the longest agreement of any top flight club, and when renewed last year had been going for 16 years and was renewed for a further 3 years.

I thought I'd visit the Liverpool thread to ask a question that has me stumped. I watched most of the Liverpool - Stoke game and saw some of the post-match interview. Everyone seems to be complaining about the disallowed goal. Benitez can't understand it. Francis thinks it's been disallowed because of Kuyt's run to the far post.

Kuyt has nothing to do with it. As I type, I have the action paused at the exact moment that Gerrard strikes the free kick and the view is across the pitch - the only shame is that the linesman is not visible to see when he flags. Kuyt is well onside, but there is definitely one, possibly two, Liverpool players in the middle who are offside when the kick is taken. I can't make out who the players are, but the one who is definitely off is Torres. He tries to head the ball - he misses it but is a few yards in front of the keeper who is clearly influenced by the head attempt without which he may or may not have been able to get to Gerrard's free kick.

What I don't understand is Francis going on about Kuyt all game as being incorrectly called offside or Rafa talking about the Ref being in a bad position in the interview, when it is a correct text-book offside, albeit one that required replay to see so the linesman did amazingly well.

Thoughts?

I didn't think Torres was off nor was Kuyt, I have to agree with you thinking the linesman was looking at Torres, not Kuyt. I have to disagree that it was the right call as neither player made contact with the ball and I didn't think that they were off either

Didn't see post match stuff, way too frustrating. We have no aerial presence going forward (at set pieces) and when a team defends extremely deep then the space isn't going to be there for lots of good shots, we miss Hyypia on attack. Neither Carragher or Skrtel offer an attacking threat from set pieces. Torres is decent at best and Keane just doesn't have the height.

Stoke defended really deep and really well. Sorenson made some good saves and Keane, Torres, Kuyt were wasteful. I was impresses by Arbeloa even though he always had an overlap he delivered some nice balls and beat his man a few times.

Man U , Chelski even Arsenal have defenders who score from set pieces we don't have that, without our aging Hyypia.

Kuyt had one or two defenders ahead of him, as he ran from deeper position so there is no question there despite what Trevor Francis thought. However, Torres was off when the ball was played. Honest. I had to replay and pause to see it, but I have done so several times. Torres started his run a fraction early. The defender reacted and got goal-side after the kick was taken. Whilst Torres didn't make contact with the ball, he did go for it and was ahead of the keeper so was interfering with play (exactly as defined within the LotG).

Bolton could have down with such a clued-up linesman. I just saw Arsenal's first goal against Bolton. Eboue appeared offside even before rewinding and pausing to make sure.

By the way, caught a bit more of Benitez's interview. He seemed to be implying that the disallowed goal came from the ref and not the linesman? Did the linesman not flag then? If not and it came from the ref, then I understand Rafa questioning how he could make the call - but at least it was the right call overall even if by accident!
