Whats with no sponsor on Liverpools shirts against Marseille? Is that a special CL shirt for this season for you guys?

Northern Rock, AIG, XL Airways  and now Carlsberg all gone under (Yeah Right - Whoever heard of a brewer going belly up )

French law forbids the advertising of alcohol apparently including shirt sponsors names, so we had the non-named version.

If our ownership finally ends up with Arab money, it will be interesting to see if this Carlsberg  sponsorship is continued.  I understand it is the longest agreement of any top flight club, and when renewed last year had been going for 16 years and was renewed for a further 3 years.

"belly out"  seems a more appropriate turn of phrase

Kuyt had one or two defenders ahead of him, as he ran from deeper position so there is no question there despite what Trevor Francis thought. However, Torres was off when the ball was played. Honest. I had to replay and pause to see it, but I have done so several times. Torres started his run a fraction early. The defender reacted and got goal-side after the kick was taken. Whilst Torres didn't make contact with the ball, he did go for it and was ahead of the keeper so was interfering with play (exactly as defined within the LotG).

Bolton could have down with such a clued-up linesman. I just saw Arsenal's first goal against Bolton. Eboue appeared offside even before rewinding and pausing to make sure.

By the way, caught a bit more of Benitez's interview. He seemed to be implying that the disallowed goal came from the ref and not the linesman? Did the linesman not flag then? If not and it came from the ref, then I understand Rafa questioning how he could make the call - but at least it was the right call overall even if by accident!

When I saw a replay during the game i thought Torres was off side and wondered why there was such a fuss about Kuyt being off because he clearly wasn't.

It was well and truly a goal, an absolute disgrace from the ref.. What a strike if i do say so myself!!

Having read around some of the on-line text commentaries that were still on-line Sunday afternoon, there is consensus that Torres was offside. Trevor Francis appears to be the only man in the world focusing on Kuyt to the exclusion of any other possibilities. Soccernet also specifically mentioned the linesman's flag, so Rafa going on about the ref was also wrong. Poor Rafa, he's embarrassed himself a bit on this one really. Hey ho.

It was a nice strike, but if Torres hadn't gone for it then the keeper would have had a clean view to collect. I thought Gerrard had managed to score for real via a similar free kick in the second half. Obviously a nicely worked training ground set piece to send Torres in to distract the keeper, with the idea of the ball sneaking past. The only thing missing, or at least I failed to notice, was Kuyt coming in to the far post just in case for the second one.

The referee told Carragher that he ruled it out, not the linesman, but didn't give any indication for what.  Because of his positioning, there is no way he should have ruled for off-side.  General consensus seems to be that he was the only one at the game that thought he had given an indirect free kick

I watched Prem Highlights on Monday and even the coverage there said Torres was on and if you see when they freeze it he's onside.

On better news Liverpool 2-1 Crewe in the League Cup. Agger and Lucas score.

Dan Aggers gonna be a sensation in a year or two, he's got it all. We just need to hang on to him and get him some gametime, its hard with Carra and Skrtel in front of him. You have to feel sorry for Big Sami Hyppia, he's been a legend for us.

Big line up tonight, Warriors will lead straight up to the Derby.

Anyone got thoughts on Bale rumours, still a while to window so ain't gonna be soon. Still signed Dossena and still got Aurelio. Although Bale is young and probably can play further forward.

Good game, good result and 2 good Torres goals. Should had the hattrick, didn't see any reason for the 3rd one to be dissallowed.

That's now 999 goals for Pool in the EPL, only the scum and the arse have got more.

What do you expect? It was Mike Riley.

Three for me, and two for them.

Thanks man

Over ran the middle today. Phil and Fellaini couldn't really cope with Gerrard and Alonso. Riley seemed to want to give out cards and rev players up from the get go. Cahill's red was harsh, gonna miss him with Arteta out of form.

Good performance today, still needed Torres to be at his sharpest. Keane again average, Riera looked good again. Still wondering why Babel isn't playing, also Agger seems a better option to the muscular Skrtel.

Not saying he was great, but didn't keane set up torres for the first and play that neat little ball to Kuyt which lead to the second? Average is a little harsh, but I'll admit I too have been expecting more from him at Liverpool.

Yeah suppose, just thought a lot of plays came to an end when he had the ball and options and instead of making the pass he dwelled on the ball.

Great 3 points to pick up at Goodison and goes some way to erasing last weeks disappointing draw.

Long may it continue!

Yeah, noticed that. How many times did Riera or Dossena make the overlapping run only for Keane to hang onto the ball.

I know he had a hand in both goals but he's not winning me over yet.

i thought the same thing malky, commentator mentioned it a few times too. just ignored the player running into space down the left. blind in his left eye?

Give it time and he'll come right I'm sure of it. If we spotted it and the commentators spotted it then there's no doubt in my mind that Rafa will be aware of it and will work on that at training.

Its Man Citeh at Citeh next up and it should be a cracker, they'll have to come at us at home and that should leave plenty of space for Torres and Keane to work in.

PSV first.

A win tonight would be a big step towards the knockout stages. Somewhere around 10 points should be enough to go through and to be over halfway there after 2 games would take the pressure off. Especially after last year!

Sweet result this morning, 3-1 over PSV.

Keane bags his first and Gerrard gets his 100th in front of the Kop. Couldn't be a better place to score it!

Two hard fixtures against Athletico Madrid coming up. Buts its good to go into those games with two wins already under our belt.

Easily dominated PSV. Actually really happy to see Keane score. Dito with Kuyt, his Champions League goal scoring seems impressive.

PSV's Amrabat impressed me, we should sign him, add some attacking flair and I'm pretty sure he could adapt his game to the wing.

Atletico have been playing well. Especially in attack, Kun and one of my former favourites Sinama have knocked in a bunch of goals.

The great thing about the PSV win was that Torres setup Keane for a goal, Keane setup Torres for a goal and Stevie G scored a screamer. Its all starting to come together. Looking forward to the Pool vs Citeh game.

Brilliant absolutely brilliant. Torres awesome...until he missed that sitter, but there was this feeling we were going to win it with so much domination. Another one for Kuyt

Gotta say thanks for the iraqgoals link worked well, will probably use more as internet caps have risen

sh*t lads, I really hate to jinx us, but is anyone else getting just a little bit excited about this season?  Twelve games in all competitions so far in 2008 - 9 wins, 3 draws (so unbeaten) and just 7 goals conceded...

The Chelsea game on October 26 will be massive.

Well I am now officially excited about the mighty reds season, I watched the Pool vs Citeh game and was wondering how the hell we were down by to two after looking the better side. but as Rafa said, we could have scored 4 or 5 in the second half so on balance I think we deserved it. I can't believe Torres missed from a yard, he deserved a hatrick. Riera is looking more and more confident, Kuyt is playing superbly on the right and Central midfield has never been a problem.
I see Skrtel is out with Knee ligament damage, fortunately we have Danny Agger chomping at the bit for a start so that works out well.

I'm really looking forward to the Chelsea game, the midfield battle will be epic!

You'll never walk alone!

I reckon it'll be a cracker.

Champions League Atletico Madrid v Liverpool, D, 19:45

Sunday, 26 October 2008

Tuesday, 04 November 2008
Champions League Liverpool v Atletico Madrid, D, 19:45

Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Carling Cup Tottenham v Liverpool, R4, 19:45
