That Lucas Leiva has got to be the most average midfielder i have ever seen, Alonso was sorely missed....Why oh why Keane didnt come on for Lucas and Stevie back to midfield at half time i dont know........2 points lost there for mine
Agreed about Lucas. He hasn't impressed at all, gives the ball up waaay too easy and his passing leaves a lot to be desired.
Can't understand why Keane didn't come on for Lucas either. The subs were weird today, to say the least, and we didn't even use 'em all ffs.

Did you see the PSV game, the Arsenal game, the Newcastle game? He was the best player on the pitch. While Inter are a different team, he absolutely hammered them when Alonso didnt travel last season too. He was poor yesterday, but one of the only players who actually tried. Think we missed Insua a bit, as Aurelio offered nothing, partially due to this being his first start since returning from injury. And what about Hyypia, eh lads? Just an immense player. Still, terribly disappointing. I'm not a huge fan of Kuyt up front on his own, but it worked against Newcastle...Stoke were just much tighter.
Also, 4-2-3-1 is not 4-5-1. I suppose you'd rather played 4-4-2 and have been forced to pump long balls up to the forwards, and then won absolutely nothing. From memory, Masch and Stevie dont work as well as you would think. 4-2-3-1 won us all those games at the back end of last season, but with Torres as the lone forward, rather than Kuyt.
And, with that United win, it seems likely that we have given up top spot before we play Everton. We absolutely have to win that Derby now. Why do we never do well in December/January?!
Lastly, Rafa's outburst was strange...He should have maybe waited until after the Stoke game and, if we'd won, released his fury. Still, it was hilarious. From what my mates have told me, a lot of people in the UK really respect Rafa for that! Anyway, good on him- I love the way he referred to him as "Mr Ferguson"!

Actually, I'd like to see the players that we've purchased and employed as strikers at least get a start, particularly against a team that's fighting to stay up in the league.
Starting Keane at least would've given us more options in having an extra man up amounst a defense that we knew was going to be tight.
Still think that Lucas is very average, but don't want to get into a pissing contest about formation and players...

As for Rafa, weird but thoroughly amusing. Timing might not have been right, but laughed my ass off at some of the things he had to say about "Mr. Ferguson". I think his comments mirror what a lot of people think but aren't prepared to say. "Facts" and all that...
edit: I've got a soft spot for Sami too, even if he gives me a few heart in mouth moments every now and again.

True, and Keane was, I thought, brought in to unlock tight defences and lobbing it up to him woulda done us no good as he's not going to win much in the air so we would have played it on the ground, which would have been better. Yeah, its a pretty bad result all things given.
Yeah, I think Lucas is a good player, but has a hard time of making into the "Best midfield in the world"- captain of Argentina, one of the best and most complete players in the world in Gerrard and a player who played an important role in Spain's Euro winning side and probably the most cultured footballer we've seen since Molby.
, yeah i know! It was hilarious when he said Mr Ferguson should just do the fixtures himself, and also when Chelsea should use zonal marking because United use man-to-man on the referee! Class. I absolutely love the guy and dont buy into any of the medias comments about him. Zonal marking (as opposed to man-to-man, which never leaks goals) , rotation (see Mr Ferguson's record of "rotation") etc. Yeah, thats right, which is why people cant believe someone had the balls to say it outright!Yeah, he's getting on now, but every year he's written off and every year he comes back strong. Starting to look ageless!

Yeah, I guess so? Heskey is well past his best though, and he certainly won't provide us with many goals! Just a battering ram, really, and another option.
With regards to Lucas, I think he is a good player, the thing is if he can adapt his game to English footy. He's more attacking than Masch though, but he plays some intelligent one touch passes five yards, and is always moving. Similar player, but not the same to an extent that they shouldnt play together. The Masch- Lucas combo destroyed Newcastle! Prefer Alonso, obviously, as he's been unstoppable so far this season. Best player in the League? Maybe.

Easy tiger! Best player in the league? Although, I have decided he is by far my fav Liverpool player. Heskey on a free would be better than millions on someone with similar talent. Oh well it may only be a rumour....if it's true I wonder if it signals the end for Robbie Keane!

The Heskey rumour has been around for a while now so the fact that it won't go away and that no one seems to be trying to deny it would suggest there is something to it. Also, Heskey has refused to sign a new contract at Wigan.
Also, he has definitely improved since he left us. Being recalled to the England squad was a sign of that.
Heskey arriving would not see the end of Keane, they are very different players. He's the kind of striker that gives you a physical presence up front so you need to have a Torres or a Keane to run off him. He is a big part of the reason Owen did so well for us. He always got a hard time when he was with us for not scoring enough goals but that's not necessarily all that he was in the side for.
There's been some talk this week about how football in the EPL has changed and the number of teams that pack their defense to try to negate better teams (ala Stoke against us and Bolton v Arsenal on the weekend) and how better teams need to work out how to break down these defences. I think Rafa has an idea of how he wants to try to do that and Heskey is part of that plan. I hope so anyway.

Yeah, thats true. Improved yeah, but good enough? I'm not so sure. He's getting on now, although if we get him on free then there's no harm I suppose. I'd rather see Pacheco or Nemeth get given a run about, although they're totally different players to Heskey, and Heskey therefore does give us a "battering ram" striker which we dont have at the moment.
Agree with you, Keane is a totally different player, but also a different player to Torres. Yup, Ow*n did well for us, and its a reason why a lot of the bigger clubs have target men like that (although I'd say to a better quality). If Wigan get a point or three from this morning's game I'd welcome him back with open arms, mind! Strikers are judged on one thing though and that's goals...
Yip, if Rafa has a plan of how to break these teams down then I really hope it works. I, personally, am not sure getting a huge target guy in there to pump long balls at him to nod down to Gerrard etc will work, so I'd say its more complex than that. I think Rafa knows what he's doing!
Oh, in regards to Alonso, I meant in terms of form. He's been absolutely outstanding this season and is a huge reason we are (at the moment) top of the league, in my opinion. A real cultured footballer and a pleasure to watch.

Worse still, Chelsea scored two to win! Grrrrr. Stoke really should have not lost that. Serves them right if they end up relegated.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Steven Gerrard is our captain,
Steven Gerrard is a Red,
Steven Gerrard plays for Liverpool,
A scouser born and inbred.
fixed.
Funny guy...
At least we have proper chants that arent the "And it's *insert team name here* ...we're by FAR..." etc usual. At least we sing about our team (mostly!) rather than obsessing with having a dig at the working class. Easy up there, isnt it Mr Bourgeoisie?!

cheers for the link a good read, personally i just enjoy taking the piss i'm from a family of both red and blues fans so it's always in good humour, but it is pretty disgusting some of the things that do get chanted, not only in the mersyside derby, but football in general. Should interest fans of both Everton and Liverpool.

Australian of the Year...Poor bloke. Not something to be proud of, like!Evertonian and Aussie, what a waste of a life.
Yeah I bet all that money he's earning and those books he made to encourage young readers is a lot more than you'll ever do.

Its the way it should be. Well-humoured, and for pride and a laugh. Yip, its horrific to be honest. I'm a peaceful kind of person, so its awful when you see Everton fans pretendng to be squashed against a cage, calling the 'Pool fans murderers etc. Even the Chelsea fans singing "You should have died in the tunnel" to Ronaldo. We hate the Mancs singing about Hillsborough, yet some of our own sing about Munich. As great as Shankly was, he did get one thing wrong. Football isnt more important than life and death, in my eyes at least.

You think the world is about money, la? That I'd judge my success based on what I earn? I want to be a teacher when I grow up, so obviously I want to help people. And just because I dont have the publicity or fame doesnt mean that he's a better person than me. Anyway, I was having a laugh.

Freaking Lucas....Rafa should have kept his mouth shut...not that i'm blaming him. I'm hoping that Manure will struggle further with Injuries and a congested fixture list but we just look pretty average at the mo. Although in saying that we did have a lot of the play vs Wigan. I still believe boys!!

If thats how you expect to win the league then you may as well give up now.
I think the saying goes: Hope is not a plan.
P.S. Why aren't you blaming Rafa? At the moment he epitomises a coach under pressure. If I was him I would have plastered the words "Liverpool are going to choke" across the changing room walls and said nothing.

Well deserved victory for the Reds with a little hand from Mike Riley. But a hollow victory really. Neither of us have any chance of catching United now unfortunately.
I'm not sure you would be saying that if Chelscum was two points off the lead?
But you're not, so I guess it doesn't matter lol.
