From the extra complaining on the LFCTV thread we must be playing pretty horrible. Looks like Penalties are on the cards

2231: GOAL Liverpool 1-0 Standard Liege
Dirk Kuyt does what Liverpool do in Europe - after playing badly, he gets on the end of a brilliant Ryan Babel cross from the left and directs the ball into the net from three yards. I'd say unbelievable, but it isn't. Liverpool are through.

Oh Dirk your a legend...phew... you know a boring 1-0 with an early goal would be nice now and then.

At least we're through, don't want to be in the UEFA Cup. Now lets get some wingers now that we got some cash

Apparently an 8M offer for Riera has been made and is close to being completed. This despite Espanyol receiving a higher offer from the toffees. According to reports, the player prefers us and doesn't want to go to the toffees. Good man!

8m doesn't seem to get you much now days. Oh well I'll give him a chance, last player that we fought away from Everton was Momo, he was good for a while but we didn't wait to see how he would develop when he came back from injury, although he had some really horrible games.

And yes same player that was at City. Got 5 Spanish caps to and a goal his name now.

Pot 1
Club Coefficent
1 Manchester United FC (ENG, holders)
107.996
2 Chelsea FC (ENG)
124.996
3 Liverpool FC (ENG) 118.996
4 FC Barcelona (ESP) 117.837
5 Arsenal FC (ENG) 110.996
6 Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
99.380
7 FC Internazionale Milano (ITA)
96.934
8 Real Madrid CF (ESP) 93.837

I'm thinking this implies that Liverpool are ranked no. 2 in the Champions League (seeing as teams in the lower Pots have lower"coefficients")

They were saying on BBc that that goal may have saved Rafas job! Rafas tactic. play bad and win
Permalink Permalink

I think this proves a lot of what Rafa has been saying in that the thing we are missing is 1 or 2 good wingers who will play down the lines.

One of the reasons why Penant is out of favour and will probably be sold soon is that he tends to come inside too much.

I don't think the late goals are so much of a coincidence. They also coincide (at least in the last 2 games) with the introduction of Ryan Babel and Nabil El Zhar. Up till then we were relying too much on the fullbacks making overlapping runs to get the width.

It will also be good to have Mascherano and Lucas back. Especially Mascherano as this will lessen the impact of losing Stevie for 2-3 weeks (and before anyone says anything, no, I am not implying the he can replace Stevie G, I just think we have been missing his control of the MF).

What do you think of our Euro draw? PSV, Atletico and Marseille. Could be pretty tough but we should get through. torres returns home.....well his previous home!Tyler2008-08-31 17:24:21

Well the scum have been scoring some bloody lucky last minute/injury time goals for about the last decade. Once their luck runs out I reckon we should get about another 8 years of it to even things up.

Personally I think it evens out for us over time. I seem to remember some disgraceful ref's calls that cost us points last season, the Chelsea "Penalty" springs to mind.

We always draw good teams, never any 'dud' teams...No Anorthosis, BATE, Aalborg. Although those teams generally surprise, remember Basel.

Could've been worse, could have been better, but it's the Champions League so got to expect tough teams.

Villa tonight, bit of focus on Barry, especially since Gerrard is out. Hopefully an improved performance today. Mascherano, Lucas and Alonso should be able to do a good job in the middle without Stevie.

Got Man U coming up, looking like both may be out for that clash. Although got 2 weeks to recover. Really need Babel back in the team, Rafa seems to be giving him an extended rest.

Decent result today, should have had a penalty when Reo-Cocker took down Keane. Looked a lot better in this game than the two previous though, Dossena looked good and N'Gog looked sharp.

Rafa keeps playing really tight and sucking the life out of games. Playing Keane and Kuyt down either flank and cramming the midfield. Game opened up a bit more when Keane pushed forward  (and central) and Dossena pushed up to overlap.

Rafa seemed really confident of getting Riera after the game, he hoped the deal would be done by tomorrow, I haven't seen him play for a while, but we desperately need a winger to balance the side out.

He also seems pretty confident that he'll have Stevie back for the United game.

I guess we'll see.

A bit of transfer action today:

OUT:
Finnan - sold to Espanyol on a 2 year deal
Voronin - on loan to Hertha Berlin for the season

IN:
Albert Riera - signed for 4 years from Espanyol
Vitor Flora - 18yo Brazilian striker from Botafogo
Peter Gulacsi - keeper from MTK Hungaria, was on-loan to us last season and was the reserve team keeper.

I liked Stevie Finnan, he was our mister underrated and mister consistent. But Arbeloa has done well so suppose he's not needed. But to Espanyol? Thats quite odd

We finally signed Mr square jaw. And hopefully some width

Didnt he go to espanyol as part of the riera deal? was a strange place to go though. Im a bit sad to see Finnan go as well. Hope that riera is ok, some of Rafas signings have turned into duds.

I thought Finnan did a good job for Liverpool, but your right, Arbeloa has been to good for Finnan to get a look in, I guess he may have suffered for only really being able to play one position.

Still, I wish him all the best in Spain.

I've been enjoying the bits of Carra's book that have been serialised or quoted in various papers, but I really enjoyed this bit called"What really happened at half-time in Istanbul" in de Echo tonight.

I saw the piece about getting back Neill on 442 australia. The comments are hilarious, all these Australians pissed off with Carra when in reality he stopped it from happening. I don't think they realise how rough of an area he was from and some of the people he is probably friends with.

Ok heres the deal -

Sky NZ is not showing the Liverpool Man Utd game on saturday Live.  Instead they are showing it delayed at 6:30am sunday morning.

When asked why i got this response.....

"On checking the schedule, as usual we do have a very full weekend ahead of us with both live and delayed sport coming through. On SKY Sport 1 we have live international rugby from 9.30pm followed by live Formula 1 at midnight. On SKY Sport 2 we have live NRL from 10.30pm then from 1.55am, we go in to our EPL coverage, with a live game, followed by 2 live games, until the delayed game between Liverpool and Manchester Utd.

On SKY Sport 3 we have delayed golf, and though there may have been a chance of bringing the game in live on this channel, the game is being broadcast in HD, and so as at this stage as we only broadcast HD on SKY Sport 1 and 2, the decision was taken to keep the game in this format and play it out delayed.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours."

Now correct me if i am wrong but they are making everyone suffer (including HD customers who want to watch the game live) just for some  strange business decision which doesnt make sense.  Tv is about viewing figures yet even though they could put this game on Live at 11:45pm and get good viewing figures they dont appear to want to for the sake of HD which hardly anyone has.

If anyone is interesting in watching this game live.......and would like to help me at least get sky to think about putting it on Sky sport 3 please follow link and let them know there is people who want to see this great game at a great time to watch football on a weekend.  Thanks

https://skytv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/skytv.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php

Please post this on any other forums which you may no of and hopefully we can get the decision changed.  It is possible......

Come on you can live without a cellphone for a few hours on a Sunday morning, don't go onto your email and if someone rings for you ignore it, and who rings someone between 2am-6am to talk football?

BUT, I have to say watching a game delayed, even when you haven't heard the result, isn't in where as good as watching it live. Will email sky though. Also P2P stuff is ok to use.

Back to football, Gerrard is out for the match!!!

As linds said, you can easily avoid contact, not sure why you're that worried.

Yes it's not as good as live - i agree. But it's still fairly close. Kicks off at 11.45pm our time so get yerself into bed by then (surely you can sacrifice one night for your team), turn your cell off, turn the computer off, unplug the phone and you're set. Not sure what your problem is really...

I would be more p*ssed off if it wasn't on at all
