In talks with Martinez from Wigan.  Could be interesting.

Pretty quiet on here given all the recent developements. The football style promised by rodgers is promising , should be great to watch but a couple of things bother me about it. For a start its going to take a fair while to completely redo the thinking and turn us into the english barcelona. Also where does it leave carrol, hes definitiely not designed for that type of football.

Disapointed to see Kuyt head off as well (he would have excelled in this new philiosophy), he always been class and put the effort in when others may not have. Good luck in turkey i guess

Right lads, a few hours before the first game of the season has anyone survived the yellow fever forum change?

Permalink Permalink

There are least two of us left! I've been popping into the thread from time to time but all I've seen is a few tumbleweeds drifting past.

But I digress. What are our expectations for the season then?

Its been a while lads. Prettyexcited for the game tonight. Suarez to run a clinic. Think borini will get a start?

Permalink Permalink

I hope so, I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes. Don't know a huge amount about the guy but I'm hoping that he and Suarez will strike up a pretty juicy partnership.

I think the major issue this year will be whether the Rodgers can the best out of his squad. There has been a bit of comment along the lines of 'Liverpool don't have the squad to pose a serious threat' but imo people seem to forget that many of the players in our squad have the potential to be stars. For one reason or another Kenny didn't seem to be able to get the best out of the squad, but if Rodgers is able to turn that around I have high hopes for a good season.

Maybe my optimism is a little misplaced. Mostly I'm just looking forward to the season starting again!

Awesome start to the season!  The only clinic Suarez was going to run was one on how to not score goals!  We played just like we did last season.  Gerrard gave the ball away way too much and Joe Cole.......well the swear words I could come up with to describe him  Don't know how long I've been saying it but we need someone to get goals, Suarez is great but he drifts wide, drops deep leaving us with downing up front who is about as handy as a an ipad for a blind man.  After seeing the way fulham played dempsey will want to crawl back to Jol begging to stay!

I think Pool went out there thinking thay would pass the Baggies of the park. Too arrogant. No bite in the side either. Both centre back's caught for pace far too often. Kelly not up to the standard. Glen Johnson was quality. Lucas a solid shift but half a yard short. Give him time. Liked the look of Joe Allen. Gerrard had a terrible night. Downing and Borini both poor too. Joe Cole had a hamstring problem during pre season. Why was he even in the side? I don't like to blame ref's but I some of the calls made really favoured West Brom. Enough said about that.  A lot of pressure on Brendan Rogers now with a tough schedule over the next few weeks.

We had better sort ourselves out asap. With some huge games coming up over the next month liverpool need to really be on their game. I do not want the season to be over by October!

Very flattering to get the away goal this morning.  Lacking so much in the final third, just seems to be very little go and drive about the players.  City are going to tear us apart

Shame about carroll getting injured, game would have suited him. Things dont get much easier in the next few weeks either. Really dont like the thought of cara playing against city

So close to getting the win this morning!  Sterling had a cracking game as well, hope Rodgers keeps playing him.  Good to see coates play over carra too.  Much happier, bring on the arse!

Well deadline day was nothing short of a disaster for Liverpool today. I'm gutted that the Dempsey deal fell through and very worried about our lack of a goalscorer. Thinking of the forwards we had last season and then taking away Carroll and Bellamy makes me very nervous as to who is going to be putting the ball in the net. I'm fairly confident in the quality of our midfield but we are going to be relying on them very heavily to get forward. At this point I think qualifying for Europe relies on a number of the younger unproven guys having amazing breakthrough seasons. Possible, but who knows.

What a rollercoaster season only 3 weeks in!

Gerrards pass costing us once again!  Instead of doing a cutzie little skip after you give the ball away get your ass back!

Some fantastic football again though, just no end product....starting to sound familar. Hopefully some goals this half. Like the look of sterling btw

severly lacking bite up front and creative drive and go forward in the midfield.  Can we play 4-3-3 with the players that we have?  I'm struggling to see it at the moment.  We played better sure but it's all good knocking the ball around in your third and the middle third of the pitch but you don't score goals from there.  I can see teams crowding out the final third untill they get the ball back.  Suarez looked very isolated.  IMO he thrives playing close to other players.  In 4-3-3 he's always miles away from support.  Borini very very poor.  Gerrard looked average.  Sterling pretty good game, allen played well too but we need more forward penetrating passing.  Shelvey played well when he came on.

Really liking the look of Shelvey so far this year.

For Liverpool fans, on sky Sport 1 now is a documentary called "Being Liverpool"

Liverpool opens their door to an unprecedented look inside the Reds. This six-episode documentary began in May and followed the tour of North America and through to the Barclays Premier Season.

Is that the one with the footage of Rodgers giving Sterling a bollocking in front of everyone? I heard that was decent, is it any good?

Only the first episode of 6 is on Sky atm. Watched it last night. Wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Was good seeing a few of the players inside their homes etc as well.

Sterling is the goods. Most of our other players though...

Being Liverpool: I thought it was fascinating for a bit of a 'peek inside' a big club, albeit somewhat 'packaged'. Looking forward to future episodes.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Watched it twice now.Have to say its amazing the access the film crew have to the players and staff.

Melwood looks the goods ..talk about superior training facilities.

Great to get insights into what makes a few of these players and Brendan tick, their family and home etc

Also the access to the likes of the Red Sox and Fenway was an eyeopener... training at Harvard...sheesh! Talk about a bloody great big Red Sporting Juggernaut!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Seems OK.  Looks like it is attempting to emulate the (fantastic) HBO 24/7 series' from the US.  Not quite up to that level, but the first episode seems promising.

Yeah, I'm not sure about how Rodgers is portrayed. Seems a bit 'rent-a-quote' to me. Had to laugh at the big speech at the beginning before the West Brom game seeing as we got battered. Its not great, but not as cringeworthy as I thought it might be.

Suarez's missus is stunning though.

Europa League tomorrow. Hopefully see a bit of Sahin. Pacheco and Suso would be good too. And guess we'll see Yesil at some point, or Adam Morgan.

I personally enjoyed Being Liverpool, although it was a tad boring at times. That scene with the Red Socks was so awkward and funny. I think the show should probably get more interesting in the other episodes now that the club is introduced.

Does anyone know why the Young Boys game isn't on Sky? They had the Hearts game but don't seem to have any other Europa League games for this match day?

It is annoying, they have it in Oz on Setanta but you have to pay extra for it.

So have Sky just ditched Europa League for the group stages? I hope this is just a one off. Don't really want to use all my internet on some sharkty stream

Fudges me off how ESPN aren't doing La Liga this year either.

Only seen bits of this morning's game but sounds like madness! Nice to get a win, and for some of the youngsters to get a run out. Pleased to hear Hendo, Wisdom and Suso did well. High hopes for all three. Oh, and Coates too. Saw a comment about Enrique- not only does his haircut make him look like Dossena but now he's playing like him!

Roll on Monday morning.

Just got next months football fixtures and it looks like Sky in Oz are not showing the Europa games, but Sentanta is.

Suso was the best for me.  But defending by everyone was comically inept.  Brad Jones is hopeless!  Pacheco had to play centre forward which was a tough ask.

Apparently Raheem Sterling is 17 and has already fathered three children, someone teach the boy to wrap up!  No wonder he's asking for a pay rise

Normo's coming home

Can't speak for the antipodes but those sorts of games are typically on Channel 5 or ITV4 over here.

18th after 5 rounds. How do Liverpool fans feel about this?

I watched the game last night and considering they spend over half the game with 10, they weren't out of it. I'm not sure if thats an indication on Liverpools effort or Manchester Uniteds star waning.

The penalty decision -  I've seen worse given but I don't think it was a penalty in my opinion. Halsey had a great view, insignificant contact and Valencia startfishes it. I think at any stage you have contact with the striker in the box, then you do put yourself in the spot light come decision time.

I do sometimes wonder if they would be better off without Gerrard. I liken it to the Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls in the 80's. Once he did less and let everyone get involved, they played better as a team. Hell of a footballer but sometimes that can be the problem.

Grumpy old bastard alert
