Smooth attempt to shift your argument Leggy and yet you've still failed badly.

It'a almost as if the amount of foreigners playing in England has no noticeable impact on the quality of "English football" whatsoever...

Though through the 60's and 80's (up to Italia '90) England arguably have performed better than they have since the start of the EPL.

The evidence isn't all that compelling though, is it? Especially when you consider the win was in 1966 (where I've started from here).
Before PL:
Win
SF x2
QF x 2
Second round
Group x 3
DNQ x 5
After PL:
SF
QF x 4
Second round x 2
Group
DNQ x 2

Absolutely! Class and will fit in nicely. Not sure he will replace Lucas though, different sort of a player. That is based on rumours I have read that LL is leaving Liverpool, and not much else.

You can ascertain what your opponent is afraid of by observing the means by which he attempts to frighten you

It does not surprise me as I had a chat with a scouse mate in the early 90's about the effect of imported players to the EPL. We agreed that it would have a plus side to the league but would be detrimental to English football.
This is in my opinion what has happened.

Because English football was really strong before the early 90s? LOL

I especially loved England's run in the 70s when they failed to qualify for four consecutive tournaments. Damn foreigners...

Wow you really know your football. In the 70's. English sides were dominating the European Cup Winners Cup--Man City and Chelsea.
Inter-City Fairs Cup - Arsenal, Leeds, Spurs, Liverpool . The European Cup- Liverpool and Nottingham Forrest.
In the 80's Liverpool,Nottingham Forrest and Aston Villa won the European Cup.
LOL

English teams did quite well then and instead of United it was Liverpool who ruled the roost. I think the introduction of foreign players may have improved the standard but the down side is, is that it started to limit the chances of some home grown players whom not up to the high standard, were never really given the chance of experience to get to that high stand. If you follow what I mean. Does that read right??

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Looking at Lucas this season can he play in Rodger's system?  IMO he didn't do well filling in henderson's spot while he was suspended.  Don't get me wrong I like Lucas as a DM but Rodgers doesn't really want to use a midfielder like that very often and Lucas isn't the sort of guy that can offer as much as other cm's going forward.

Just don't think he suits BRs style of football. Gives away too many fouls around our box. Think he's probably playing out of position a bit, which isn't his fault, but with Masch available he's about 5 times the player if LL, I'd be all over him like a rash if I was LFC.
Like to see Alberto go on loan and get rid of Reina, LL, Aspas, Enrique, Kelly, Johnson (and would be a shame) but cash in on Agger.

We can't cash in on Agger as I have his name on my Liverpool top! Word on the street is he turned down barca to stay with Liverpool a couple of seasons ago.....freaking legend!!

Would be sad to see Lucas leave from a supporters point of view. Same as Agger, he genuinely seems to love the club. Would it be between him and Jo Allen for the boot if Lallana comes in??

Barce sound like they're gonna make a play for Luiz so maybe not interested in Agger anymore.

Also, do we give Borini a crack this season? Can't see him getting near the first XI at this point but we're definitely gonna need cover with the extra games.

Maybe he won't mind staying at Sunderland now that they've secured their place in the premiership? Agree that that's a pickle.

Transfer rumours - almost as exciting as the football itself.

Almost as exciting as the football itself!

Here’s a big rumour coming directly from someone involved at LFC. Doesn’t mean it is right, simply that it probably has some legs and insight to it.

Suarez is being sold to Real Madrid for £68 million with Peruvian Cristian Benavente included in the deal with a buy back option. Roberto Firmino is going to be Saurez replacement for around £25 million.

Also trying to get in is William Carvalho, Marcos Rojas along with Adam Lalana. All 5 players in for an expected total of £100 million.

Rojas?

Wow that would be great.

I also think the rumour is about Marcos Rojo, defender from Sporting Lisbon

More rumours on the BR shopping list......

- Xherdan Shaqiri, Swiss winger at Bayern.

- Ryan Bertrand, LB at Chelsea.

- Dejan Lovren, CB at Southampton.

- Alberto Moreno, LB at Sevilla.

Apparently chasing Emre Can from Leverkusan also. LM/LB I believe.

A versatile player. Preferred position is CM. He is decent. Bayern youth player.

Yeah have only heard good things. Bayern have first option on him which may make a transfer tricky but he seems to tick a lot of boxes.

Full video of the Liverpool v Shamrock Rovers friendly from Dublin last week:

https://livefootballvideo.com/fullmatch/world/club-friendlies/shamrock-rovers-vs-liverpool

(One video for each half)

"Fabio Borini, who helped fire Sunderland to Barclays Premier League safety with 10 goals in 40 appearances this campaign, will make his first start for the Reds since Oldham Athletic in January 2013.

He will be joined by Iago Aspas and Jordon Ibe up top, the latter returning from his loan spell at Birmingham City, where he helped the Blues preserve their Championship status.

Ryan McLaughlin is back from his time at Barnsley, and he joins a youthful back four, consisting of Martin Kelly alongside U21s stars Rafael Paez and Brad Smith.

Meanwhile, Conor Coady, who was an FA Cup semi-finalist with Sheffield United this season, earns a place in the line-up, starting alongside Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen at the heart of Liverpool's midfield.

The Reds' starting XI: Jones, McLaughlin, Kelly, Paez, Smith, Lucas, Allen, Coady, Ibe, Borini, Aspas.

Substitutes: Ward, Dunn, Williams, Peterson, Lussey, Randall, Teixeira, Trickett-Smith, Brannagan.

Another site with the same video:

https://www.matchhighlight.com/full-matches-review/friendly-full-matches-review/shamrock-vs-liverpool-full-matches/

Rogers said after the match that Kelly will get game time next season.

Allen and Lucas likely to figure next season too I guess. Maybe Aspas and Borini will get a chance?

Fantastic news.

Listen, I didn't like the appointment of Rodgers when he first came and his first season did nothing to win me over. I was fuming at the way FSG treated King Kenny and, for me, they will never be forgiven for that. Rodgers, though, has absolutely made me look a Twit. Really hope we can push on from last season now.

Interesting re Kenny. I always thought that FSG were in a very difficult position with that one. He was and always will be an absolute legend, but our league position just wasn't good enough when he was coach and imo he had to go. If it were anyone else it would have been a no brainer, it was just made difficult by the fact that he's a club legend, and then made even more difficult by the fact that he won the Captial One cup. I felt for the guy but agreed with the decision to let him go.

Some times when you are a legend at the club like Dalgliesh was, you are actually better served not going back again because you have to emulate that previous success. Unfortunately for Kenny, the game has moved on from his days and I don't think he has kept touch with the modern game.

Grumpy old bastard alert

At least one of his signings turned out ok, go Hendo!

Stoked for Rodgers to continue. He wasn't my first choice either but thought when he became manager, the best thing for the club would be to give him some stability so he can build for long term success as opposed to getting chopped over short term results. As he said, the guys did so well on the park that it came a year or two quicker than planned.

Maintaining and improving will be harder still but in Brendan we trust.

Unfortunately I'll be on the crappy domestic beers watching it. Tooth extraction and back injury have cleaned my bank account out!
The blokes at Yeastie Boys were considering a Red Gunnamatta if we won the Prem. Maybe next year...

Gonzo for sure but more interesting that a lot of rubbish touted about players or some ghost written 'auto' biography.
