I think when Fergie does decide to give up, he should pick the manager and he should work with them for at least a season.

And whatever we do, give them a chance. Second in Euro and League is no reason to fire anyone (cough Chelsea last year cough)

I dread the retirement of Sir Alex as I'm worried about what the Glazers will do once he's gone. I'm not only worried they'll take to the Abranimovic school of managerial faith but the fact is the only thing that has changed at United since they arrived is the one thing Alex has no control over, ticket prices.

I'm worried they'll push around anyone who doesn't have the combination of scottish stubborness along with the right to lean back and say "have you seen my medal collection?"

In terms of who we should poach to manage Manchester United once he's one, I vote for Martin O'Neil.

He's proved time and time again that he has the ability to get the most out of his players and achive much more than his team sheat would entitle him to.

He's passionate, also seems to be the type who won't let himself be dictacted to by the boardroom or by his players. This same strength in management is what has served United so well till now.

Yea that's a great call actually, I think Martin O'neill is a fantastic manager. I mean who can argue with Villa at the moment, over achieving dare I say it. And yea he definitely has that passion and enthusiasm that Sir Alex's successor requires. Possibly Ole doesn't quite have it.

I also agree. Martin O'Neill was rumoured to be being lined up in 2002 when Fergie was supposed to be retiring... He was at Celtic at the time and I think some people weren't too sure about him just yet. But what he's done at Aston Villa has been phenomenal. I think one thing that may stand in the way is that when Fergie does retire, Villa may be challenging for the league! He is that good. They could get 3rd this year.

Quieroz is an option, but his forays into management havn't been great, with Real Madrid in 03/04, and now with Portugal, which are struggling along in WC qualifying, despite having the best player in the world!

Just watching England vs Spain and interesting to see Pique playing. Along with Rossi, both were promising players that have gone on to represent their countries once leaving Man Utd. Pique I do think would be struggling for game time behind Rio and Vidic, while Rossi (who I rate highly) would still be at Man Utd I feel if Tevez did not arrive a couple of seasons ago.

I believe we have a first option on Rossi, for a set price, if Villareal are looking to affload him. Interesting to see if he doesw end up back at United.

[random] Just reading the order of precedence in England and Wales for no reason at all, and discovered that should 149 (very rough) people die, Sir Alex would be crowned the king of England.

Never actually thought about that

Oh and Hernandez just smacked in another one... Michael2009-02-14 22:43:41

It might be more beneficial for him to just 'ice' a certain Steve and Fernando. Thats if Steve doesn't get 'iced' in prison first. Michael2009-02-14 23:07:58

Good old sky, show the replay at the same time the game was on, that way if you were away at 9am every mourning and missed the live match, you can also miss the replay.

something interesting i just saw on premier league world..ryan giggs'  goal against West Ham makes him the only player to have scored at least once every season since the premier league started way back in 1992. that's quite incredible really.

he's scored 147 foals for you guys, getting to 150 would be an amazing feat, i look forward to that day.

Back on when Fergie leaves, my thinking is that O'neil moved to England again to prove himself for the Man u job. Dominated in Celtic now doing well with Villa.. He has proven himself in Scotland and England and even in Europe so why not have O'Neil.. Even David Moyes.. These two have done quite well over the years with limited budgets picking up bargins who consistently do well in the EPL

United don't need a big overseas coach when you have 2 lined up a few hours away..

A "big overseas coach" would be a huge f**k up. We don't want someone who's there 100% for money.

Anyway 6am tomorrow vs Blackburn.Michael2009-02-21 12:20:36

Roy Keane? I know it didn't work out at Sunderland but at Man U, he would fit in there like a glove. Knows the set-up, has the funds, the fan respect etc etc. IMHO it would be a good move now that he has had some experience. Good and bad.

United should have won it in the first half.inter came back in the second half. All round a draw was a fair result.

Sketchy win v the toon this morning. No more records for vds. Good to see the Roon-meister back and in form. Berbatov Johnny on the spot too. I feared it was going to become the slip up that started the slide but a testing few weeks to come.

Win the next 8 games and it's ours, City and Villa at home should be our only big challenges in those fixtures, and that's if Liverpool win every game they've got left
