Celtic did beat us 1-0 two years ago, though we beat them in the first fixture 3-2. That was an awful match, Saha missed a penalty in the last minute.

Our Champion's League pool has a familiar feel to it, in the 06/07 season we had Celtic and a Danish team, and the year before we had Villareal. Never mind as defending champions I expect us to make another good run at it this year.

saha has been sold to everton on a 2 year deal if he completes the medical so it looks like berbatov should be joining soon then hopefully. i can't imagine sir alex going through the season with only two experienced strikers

yea, a bit sad to see louis go as he has been a pretty faithful servant, not exactly prolific though, just a shame about his injuries.
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
I jumped on the net just now to see if there was any news on the striker front, and instead of getting anyone in we sell someone! I realise Louis is ALWAYS injured, but at least when he's fit he scores goals. Fergie thinks Berbatov might not happen, so it does look like it might be 2 strikers Timmy. Plus Campell of course.

bummer about the super cup today. scholes deserved to get a second yellow for that hand ball though
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
gutted about the super cup. is ferguson scared to criticise these days? soft in his old age?! I haven't heard him say a bad word about any of our less than great performances for a while...all he said after this game is how great Tevez was.

selling saha is a bad idea due to the lack of strikers we have, even if he is so ridiculously injury prone. i doubt he'll pass a medical at Everton tho, he's injured right now isn't he? He always plays pretty well for us when he's fit. I can only hope that we've got some secret deal going on for Huntelaar if Berbatov's not coming.

Not having Sky to watch the SC match made me feel pretty stink but watching scholes >SMACK< the ball in in the highlights was fine entertainment, I assume that Zenit's motivation to win the cup was ten-fold that of United

You know we belong together...

Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Yeah Zenit looked like they actually cared, however there were some fairly average performances from us, I thought Rooney and Ferdinand (usually two of our best) were dreadful, only Tevez shined. That handball from Scholes was bizarre, did he think he was going to get away with that? Only one day left in the transfer market, is Berbatov coming or not? I can't see it personally, however Hull offered 7million for Campbell and there's no way he'll leave if someone doesn't come in.

Oh, and Cristiano back before the end of the month. He's not a bad player to bring back into the side.

The Spurs website says they have agreed to sell Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United for 30.75m, with Fraizer Campbell going to Spurs on a season-long loan.

Yup as does BBC. Jeezus we needed that signing! Talk about last minute!

Perfect solution! We get the star striker we need for now and (touch wood) a promising United star of the future will be back in a years time with valuable first team experience under his belt.

Now doesn't this person seem unbelievably intelligent? I really want to meet them.

On another note,
 welcome Dimitar!

98 % is clearly lacking that remaining 2 percent. What a shame. Bit resentful I can see too. Good to see Berba come in. Was always going to happen, or so I was hoping. Would have liked to see Huntelaar also but at least Berbatov is proven in the EPL

bring on some goals, good thing we left the signing until after selling saha as it means berbs gets the #9

Yeah I don't think the shirt number is of great importance myelf. But I suppose getting the number 9 shirt is a nice touch...

Manucho got a work permit yesterday, once he's over his niggly injury he will be fit to join the first team squad

Oh and Mike Phelan is the new assistant coach. Good to see a man who wears nothing but stubbies getting a decent job in this world.

Ok heres the deal -

Sky NZ is not showing the Liverpool Man Utd game on saturday Live.  Instead they are showing it delayed at 6:30am sunday morning.

When asked why i got this response.....

"On checking the schedule, as usual we do have a very full weekend ahead of us with both live and delayed sport coming through. On SKY Sport 1 we have live international rugby from 9.30pm followed by live Formula 1 at midnight. On SKY Sport 2 we have live NRL from 10.30pm then from 1.55am, we go in to our EPL coverage, with a live game, followed by 2 live games, until the delayed game between Liverpool and Manchester Utd.

On SKY Sport 3 we have delayed golf, and though there may have been a chance of bringing the game in live on this channel, the game is being broadcast in HD, and so as at this stage as we only broadcast HD on SKY Sport 1 and 2, the decision was taken to keep the game in this format and play it out delayed.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours."

Now correct me if i am wrong but they are making everyone suffer (including HD customers who want to watch the game live) just for some  strange business decision which doesnt make sense.  Tv is about viewing figures yet even though they could put this game on Live at 11:45pm and get good viewing figures they dont appear to want to for the sake of HD which hardly anyone has.

If anyone is interesting in watching this game live.......and would like to help me at least get sky to think about putting it on Sky sport 3 please follow link and let them know there is people who want to see this great game at a great time to watch football on a weekend.  Thanks

https://skytv.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/skytv.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php

Please post this on any other forums which you may no of and hopefully we can get the decision changed.  It is possible......

I would love for it to be live, and I guess I'll flick Sky an E-Mail.

I guess if its at 6.30 it will kinda be like a Champions League match. Best of luck with trying to get through to the Sky goons.

On the match itself, no Torres and no Gerrard! Berba making his debut, our great recent record at Anfield, we have every reason to be optimistic. Last year with that 1nil win (CT scoring just before half time) was so nerve racking, that second half was one of the longest 45 minutes of the season.

mmm I heard he may be back early. Here's hoping he comes straight back with last seasons form. Pretty frightening thought for opposition defences nowdays; Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Ronaldo, take your pick, id be sh*tting myself

Yeah not much of a performance yesterday, if Liverpool can beat us imagine what a semi-decent team like Chelsea might do this weekend. I don't believe Cristiano will be back, though that would be a welcome surprise. The first 10 minutes were really top class, I thought 'we are as good as last year, plus we have Berbatov!' then sh*t hit the fan. No Vidic for the game at Stamford Bridge is only made better by the fact that Terry is also banned.

Villareal, well at home we will obviously be targeting the win, gotta be careful though we are still waiting for the season to really kick start.

I'm so glad the day improved after the United match, first the Nix didn't lose then the Warriors pulled that ridiculous rabbit out of the bag!!

I read that chelsea will be appealing the terry red, they probably have a case unfrotunately for you guys. Any idea how that system works? When will we know?

The warriors game was awesome. To quote a friend, i was doing the 'Tom Cruise on the couch thing' when witt went over...

It was quite the game huh. Watched it with a few friends and we were talking about the style of football that was played compared to what man u played last year. Correct me if I'm wrong (as I dont watch that many of your games) but does it seem that the game plan is entirely different without ronaldo? The amount of times the ball was squared out wide to someone directly on the line was crazy. It wasn't working but was continued for the entire game...?

And also the 3 man midfield..well you know it got dominated.. but was also thinking about the lack of quality balls through the centre of the midfiled and play miaking ability without you know who. Without giggs and scholes (who credit to their past influence, i dont think are that impressive and influencial) do you see the midfeild lacking the creative spark? And no... I'm still not talking about ronaldo, but a cesc/ deco/ ballack combination (phew, that would ba a nice combination). It just seemed that the final ball was lacking, and given the strike force the mancs have, some quality ball into them and there could have been a much bigger chance.

Anyway.. just a thought. Good luck for chelsea, your going to need it. We cant let them slip too far ahead now can we?

I saw a Ronaldo interview on the BBC during the early hours this morning. I thought the guy had been on "P". Why? Because he's looking quite gaunt and his skin had a silvery tinge to it.

I hope he's alright. He' said he's happy at united and laughed about Ciy coming in with a mega large fee for him. He said City's training ground is next door to Uniteds.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Some really interesting points, I will admit when I watch United the first time I'm not analysing too much, usually thats the replay. Having said that, I ain't gonna sit down and watch that 90 minutes again!

I did notice a distinct lack of quality in our passing into the final third, and I'm not sold on Rooney playing out wide right at all. I know for certain that Carrick can play lovely passes to the strikers, while Scholesy can spread the play out to the wings, but on the day Paul was poor and Carrick got injured.

For Villareal I might even put Wayne on the bench to start, and try CT and Dimi up top. Specially if Cristiano is back in the fold. That might be a bit extreme, but just give two of the strikers a chance to work together and see what happens. I'm sitting here barely awake so I'm not really sure what I'm saying in honesty

Interesting LG, I'll have to take a look at him on Wednesday (should be on bench at least). While I am neither an export on Cristiano's complexion nor the side affects of drug use, I sure as hell hope its not P he's on!

He would never join City! Mayber Madrid, but he's got enough respect for the jersey. I think

Disappointing result this morning though carries on the trend of drawing with Villareal. Good to see Ronaldo get a good reception back. Hopefully Berba will be good for Chelsea match.
