Yeah this morning was really promising, I though we played really well, and when Ronaldo came on we played as well as we did last year. Obviously no goals, but with the players we have it won't take long before we are banging 'em in.

I must say I'm fairly nervous about the prospects of the Chelsea game, Stamford Bridge is so tough to visit. But I was thinking (doesn't happen often) about it this afternoon and I'm not going to panic if we lose. If we look at last season, we drew our opening game of the season (against Reading), beat Liverpool away and lost to Portsmouth away. This season was the other way round, and last year we lost at Chelsea. It's just all happened at a compressed time,at the start of the season. Anyway, the point is, I believe once we get into the season we will be strong and challenging on all fronts.

Fella's, who's your young GK thats replacing VDS when he scuffs his knee? Kid looks class! Potential Almunia uprooting Lehman for the top spot? (but then again it was hard because Lehmann got useless)

Tomasz Kuszczak, a Polish guy we signed from West Brom about 3 years ago. Maybe 26, 27, he is always been a decent keeper though I honestly thought this would be the year Ben Foster pushed VDS out of the number 1 spot. But he's injured. Again. Hopefully he can stay fit and get some games under his belt.

Good match this morning, our ridiculously tough start to the season has finally ended and we can get right into it now. A draw was a good result even though we could have easily won. We don't have to return to Stamford Bridge till next season now, which is a nice thing to get out of the way early. Win our catch-up game at home to Fulham and we're only 3 points behind Chelsea.

Next game Middlesbrough on Wednesday morning, League Cup 3rd round. Let's see some of the young chaps get a run Sir Alex!

Hopefully Fosters not injury prone. He needs to be playing reguarly for us. Won't say VDS is past it based on a few bad games but its a worry. Can't help thinking Foster should be at least 2nd choice rather than 3rd when he's fit.

its a shame Foster is injured and we loaned Heaton out to Cardiff for the season so I don't know whos next in line.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Tomasz Kuszczak played for Poland in the U17 World Cup that was in NZ back in 1999.

The commentators in the Chelsea game reckon Wayne always volunteers to be goalie at training, so maybe him? Haha I've seen O'Shea go goalie against Tottenham that time and in the FA Cup match againts Pompey last season Rio went in. Didn't save the penalty though, so maybe not him.

They will have some reserve guy on the bench tomorrow, I think there's a German guy. Zieler or something?

I was at the Poland-U.S.A game at North Harbour Stadium, the NZ vs Uruguay game was on beofre. I dunno if Tomasz was playing, I can only remember Donovan and Beasley playing for the U.S

Why does Rio hate Edwin so much?

Three for me, and two for them.

Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
probably for making him look like a tool when rio passed the ball into his own net the other year.

either that or just a typical loving central defender - goalkeeper relationship. its healthy. i hope.

Yeah its healthy, if you took it on face value then Peter Schmeichel hated everyone. I don't know if Rio and Edwin are best pals off the pitch or whatever, but they would get along like two footballers playing for the same team. Certainly no hate.

Top performance this morning in the 3-1 win of Boro, looked comfortable. That challenge from Pogatetz was dreadful though, I feel sorry for Possebon who is a real star in the making. Has a suspected broken leg. Ronnie back in the starting XI, back on the score sheet. Gold. And Giggsy and Nani also scored.

OK, so it wasn't a penalty. But at least Wayne scored a ripping goal to make me feel less bad about it. And in truth, if Bolton deserved anything out of the game Muamba should have buried that chance he had.

After that 3 points, of to Denmark on Wednesday morning for Aalborg in the Champions League, and while our away record has sometimes not been that great in the group stages (apart from last year when we won 2 and drew 1), gotta expect the win to kickstart our defence. I'll check if and when its on telly.

Yeah he's all class. Makes it look so easy. I was very impressed with how we dealt with a pepped up team away from home, kinda like playing a lower-league team in the FA Cup. No disrespect meant. Only black spot was the injuries. Rooney starts scoring, then gets injured. Such a pain.

Good to see roon and berba both getting on the sheet yesterday. Fergie had some good things to say about young Rafael who did look absolute class and desserving of his place.

yea, Rafael, quality, the brazilian gary neville, big future, hopefully. great guy to have in a game like that where the defence in rarely under pressure, some great runs forward, a bit like a right sided evra.
hopefully the rooney injury isnt a big deal. bit gay losing scholes like that though, he was looking pretty sharp, but when isnt he.

You guys dont have a great recent record at Ewood, 1 win since 1999. With the weaker than normal center midfield we might have a chance. Hoping for a draw, expecting a loss tho. Gutted that I have to go to work at half time aswell.

Well you were right before the game, Ewood Park is somewhere I always get nervous about getting up to watch. My alarm didn't go off and I missed the first 20 minutes, but the rest of the match was pretty dominant. Didn't help for Blackburn that Santa Cruz when off injured.

I think that Vidic might have fouled the keeper for Brown's goal, but he was watching the ball and the GK did make a meal of it. Just like last week, Wayne's goal was very classy. In very good nick.

In good form going into the international break. Got West Brom at home first match back.

Hey good win today, over our early season slump that we always have at the beginning of a season, now we'll hit top gear, and even Rooney's scoring!

just got my new away long sleeve Berbatov shirt in the mail. pretty proud of myself. little bit dissapointed Berba couldnt of put that 1 on 1 with the keeper away but whatre you gonna do.

great finish by rooney, and a good run to set it up by ronaldo, starting to see glimpses of ronaldo magic again

i'm not sure about the vidic foul, to be honest it was the keepers fault for the goal no doubt, he made a meal of it, any foul was unnintentional anyway, unless vidic can see through the bakck of his head he was just trying to jump, more like the keeper ran into it

Yeah you're right, Vidic only had eyes for the ball, but if it was Edwin and someone did that I wouldn't be happy that the foul wasn't given. Keepers are protected species these days, not necessarily a good thing I know. I guess consistency is the only thing we can hope that refs strive for.

I had to wait all off season for Cristiano to confirm he was staying before I got my away shirt with Ronaldo, now I'm worried that AIG will collapse and we'll get a new sponsor! Just another excuse to order in another one I guess...

You lot must be joking! The Vidic elbow was a clear foul on the GK, can't believe some of the comments on here.

Yes goalies tend to be a protected species which isn't always a good thing, and yes we do just have to hope for refereeing consistency, but that foul was pretty black and white people. To me, Vidic knew what he was doing.

So if you agree with me, why are you not able to believe some of the comments on here? I said goalies are protected and that refs need to be consistent, and I also said if that happened to Edwin I would be upset. No biggy, but I'm a tad confused.

Fair enough... I guess what im getting at is that yes we need refereeing consistency, but in saying that, if the same thing was to occur in the next match and the goal given, i would still not be happy with decision, even though it is consistent with the previous game.

What is worse, inconsistent refereeing or consistently bad refereeing?

Geez Wayne's in decent nick at the moment. Just watched the West Brom game for the second time, and he was all class, all over the pitch. Great second half performance, best 45minutes of the year.

Celtic Wednesday morning (I think), though if its Thursday a win will make a very nice birthday pressie.

Really liked his goal against belarus. He just has natural touch in a situation like that - anticipates all the space around him so well and makes the touches look so easy to get into a great shooting position. Class.

In espnsoccernet.com's weekly 'fifth official' column i found this little gem;

"He's the type of talented individual people of limited-footballing ability like me hate. He's got everything. Pace, power, vision and stamina; he can finish, link play and pick out a precision pass in an instant. At least he's ugly. The rest of us can at least feel better about that."
