It'll have to be the one who most looks like Bale, VDV or Modric  (I'd also consider Gomes).

Watched in online, Bale was immense. The last goal was outlandish, Bale gets it just before half way, boots it 20m past Maicon, and sprints past him, recovers the ball, gets to the edge of the box, and provides the perfect cross to Pav who side foots from 6 yards.

For the first time in a while (well since we last played Milan) he wasn't double marked. He tore Maicon apart tonight, and Crouch should have had another couple from assists from Bale.

He is a fantastic exciting player - can we keep him?

I thought he had signed up a long term contract recently.

Also 'Arry should now be moving away from wheeling and dealing to keeping a strong core squad as we've got experience and yoof and depth (except in defence, oh and up front might need a hand too).

I'm a dead ringer for Gomes, lived in Wales for 5 years, have Dutch grandparents and know El Grapadura.

Does that suffice?

Wow, we really were rather bloody good today!!  Never a dull moment supporting the mighty Spurs...

Bale was immense, and will get all the plaudits, but Luka was sheer class for us tonight - hopefully the first of many games where him, GB and vdVaart are all on top form!!

I wonder when the DVD's coming out?!

That won't happen because Inter will have the full 11 and will actually be trying.

and yet we beat them 3-1 with our second choice goalkeeper, second choice centre backs, no Defoe, vdv off injured at h/t!! Imagine if we'd had our first 11 for the match

He did - 5 years in April this year, but it means nothing if someone wants to splash the cash...

Inter were missing their first team keeper and used two horrible midfield players Muntari is rubbish and Biabiany is just a youngster whos been loaned out his whole career to average teams like Modena why he started in this match is beyond me... Rafa magic i guess.
They missed Cambiasso and Stankovic and what was Pandev doing on the field the 18 year old Coutinho is better than him.
Although its a great result inter have been terrible for the majority of the season. Benitez is no replacement for "the special one"

Enjoy it. You won't be back in the CL next year.

Nah. According to King Kev there is no need for Bale to move elsewhere to further his career (on soccernet I read a few days ago) .

A Messiah to the Geordies telling a Welshman to stay a Yid. Can't argue with that.

Why?

Because we won't finish in the top 4?, oh well we'll just have to win the CL then, guaranteed entry to the following years comp...

Tough match on tonight - never beaten Bolton @ Reebok, so hopefully the lads continue on from where they left off against Inter.

don't worry about it guys, many sides struggle to cope with the attacking firepower Bolton have long had. Their prodigious scoring record is nothing to feel ashamed about , I mean it's almost unfair one side is allowed to have both Elmander and Davies.

best of luck for mid-week

Another 2pts lost. I'm starting to get irritated now (almost as much as the crowd were by Bentley!)
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Agreed, we need to get some form in the league quick sharp. At least it's still a pretty compact league at the moment, so we're not losing too much ground...

Sounds like Defoe can't come back soon enough - when we've got someone to actually take some of the chances our m/f make then our 'defensive laspes' ( Tottenham) won't matter quite as much!!
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Was checking on the match commentary - seemed like we were dominating but not having very effective scoring chances (as opposed to shots on goal).  Frustrating.

Like the nix this season is slipping away (but with many more games to come).  We seem to have a habit of dropping points against lower teams (not that SAFC are lower in terms of points) - always costly in the end.

I see that Krancjar didn't play.

Bloody hell squad must be decimated by injury if Bentley got a run. Thought Krancjar, Dos Santos and the tea lady would have been ahead of Bentley in the pecking order!

Yeah and now Pav is out too, with a dodgy back, leaving Crouch as the only option, I guess Dos Santos may be given a chance, he was in the match day squad yesterday, but didn't get on.

Surely there must be some young striker in the reserves, youth team etc (Obika?) , other clubs seem to give their youngsters a go (imagine the likes of Everton in this situation, they'd just play some kid), but we always seem reluctant, and other than the odd outing in a Cup game (Caulker) they don't get a go.

Sometimes in adversity, you find some of these kids can hack it...

2 points from a possible 12 (the two of those were Sunderland and Bolton)

Chamakh seems to have a fetching scarf and gloves combo on.

Are scarves allowed? Even if they are, no footballer should need to wear a scarf when playing! If you're cold, run around for f*ucks sake.

Gloves are borderline too

Bale again (noice!).

VDV didn't score this time: Wheels. Off. Falling?

Didn't Bale tear Blackburn apart last season? (Salgado i think)

What's the Backbencher policy on the derby (haven't checked out timing or anything)?

Edit: I can expect dozens of funny responses to that (depending on which BBer Staff answer), so let me rephrase:

Game is on @ 1:45 am Sunday morning?

Bit inconsiderate of them to schedule it then - would have preferred 6 am.

It may be refreshingly honest, but it's also the epitome of everything wrong with the typical modern footballer. Only in it to pick up his weekly pay check, could barely give two shits about the club, it's fans, it's history, or it's culture.

Also this isn't a dig because he plays for Spurs. If an Arsenal player came out with this i would react in the exact same manner.

Three for me, and two for them.

If you have players on very big wages that actually care about the club then that is a bonus.

If the players put in maximum effort to justify their wages then that is job done.

If the players just turn up to collect pay cheques then they are dirty mercenaries and deserve to be called an Owen and get lots of injuries.
