Sinclair is average.  Hes good at state level but constantly gets shown up at international level.  Tends to get out the same way.  Fishing outside off and get nicks, or an expansion drive where he get cuahgt is the covers.

Hes average is low (29) an his strike rate is poor (62).  Hes average for ODIs at home is less than 19.

Yeah, there is a reason he keeps getting dropped. Its because he doesn't score enough runs at International level. The fact he scores so many at domestic level doesn't make thing easy for the selectors. He won't play at Napier which is more than fair, Ryder will come back and Guptill has taken his chane thus far.
Im unsure why Doully was so confused as to why he got out without moving his feet, he has never moved his feet through his whole career, he scored 214 and im sure his feet never left the line of the crease when playing a shot

What a magical performance, at home in front of family and friends. Incredible! Broom with a great effort as well. Does Ryder come back into the team for the next game? Maybe at 3?
That innings of Guptill was almost Astle like in its tempo, went hard early then pulled back the throttle and cut loose at the end. Does anyone else remember the last time a NZ opener carried there bat for 50 overs in an ODI innings?

that was stunning!!! Awesome debut who finished 2nd on the all time highest debut scorelist in the world:

https://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/content/records/284184.html

How refreshing is it to see some youngsters come in and shine with the bat? With Ryder, McCallum and Taylor, we have the makings of a World Cup Winning side in the next few years...we just need to find a strike bowler (ala another Bond) in that time. Southee is looking the goods as an all rounder too. welly_phoenix2009-01-10 15:35:38

Bruce Edgar did it in the underarm game in 1981....not sure if it's been done since....

When Astle got that hundred last time they were here in Chch did he open? I think that may have been that stage they were batting him at 3, but im reasonably confident he was there at the end of 50

edit: Right, after doing some research the Chch innings he was at 3. But Nathan Astle did carry his bat once, it was in the Champions Trophy at the Oval against the............ USA
145*     177     151     13     6     96.02     2     not out     1          v United States of America     The Oval     10 Sep 2004     ODI # 2169.
https://content-nz.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/match/66197.html

Im now going to check if Lou Vincent ever did it, or Flemingbopman2009-01-10 15:59:16

Yeah, he batted #3 that day but was there at the end on 118*

Astle did however score 145* opening against USA at the Champions Trophy in 2004

....and Matthew Sinclair batted through 50 overs for 118* v Sri Lanka in 2001

Right, further research, Fleming never did it and neither did Vincent. Edgar did it twice, only once in the first innings though when he scored 99 against India at Auckland in 1981

Anyone think of any other possibilities, i've checked Latham, Young, Horne, Greatbatch and all I have discovered is that we persevered with some sh*te openers

Yeah it will count if the Windies can get 20 overs in when it can officially be called a match, but if they don't get to 20 will it count?

Oh BTW did anyone else see Jr. Wumbo at the Max game that was on TV during the rain?

Was decked out in the Whites cause Canterbury/NZ Cricket decided they'd get local Kiwi (as in the grade) cricket teams to play on the out field as a "Curtain Raiser" and my team was lucky enough to be picked...

Bopman here, I'm pretty sure when you posted that team it was the start of the season and Guptill wasn't playing because of the knee injury, however I am happy to eat some humble pie. Will be very interesting to see what they do Tuesday, I think maybe Ryder could go to 5 ahead of Flynn because we don't have a hitter down the order

I would have McCullum and Guptill opening, Flynn at 3, Ryder at 5.

In ODI's? No thanks...

I like the idea of Guppy @ three... gives JR & McCullum license to go ape sh*t (with either one or both to come off) and give our innings some impetus, then Guppy comes in to settle it down and looking to bat through with Taylor to follow... Flynn/Oram/Broom at five/six and seven depending on the situation (ie: if it's 30+ over then bring in Oram, earlier bring in Flynn to look to bat through to the 40th-ish etc) with Vettori, Mills, Southee then Patel/Bond (hehe) at the end.

Assuming everybody's fit of course in other words - replace Oram with Franklin

Cricinfo has it standing in their stats

In other news..."Guptill's success is particularly remarkable as he has only two toes on one of his feet as the result of a forklift accident a few years ago".

Really I like Elliott there after his 30* he reminded me of Hussey when he batted down there. I don't think we should move Guptill though Bracewell would of but will Moles?

Man T20 is a snorefest. Get everything that makes cricket great (the contest between bat and ball, the patience and thinking it takes to get players out or getting to 100 and beyond, the tactics of cricket, the way the game can change so many times over 5 days, the changing conditions of the pitch etc.) and take it out.

You get left with this pile of sh*t.Gangsta!2009-01-11 23:16:12
