I saw Harry Boam play yesterday against the mighty Wainuiomata side and he definately showed some class, his bowling was a bit dodgy and right now I can only see him as a batter alone but boy can he time the ball. It was just a shame Wellington College once again cheated when they had the upper hand late in the match. Two clear cut stumpings against one of there batsmen that the coll boy at square leg turned down and that batsmen ended up smashing the winning runs. The first one was quite difficult but the batsmen had his foot in the air and the second one he was atleast two feet out of his crease. What made it worse was the batsmen started walking off it was that easy. Can't one bit blame the batsmen for not walking off.
It really soured the match as before this it was a good tight game with both team struggling to score on a very slow outfield.
Cricket Wellington bend over backwards for Coll to be in this grade (as it was earlier agreed that they weren't allowed to play this grade). They go out there and play beautiful cricket but are so dishonest it becomes rediculas.
Wellington College great place to better yourself as a cricketer but probably not the best place to learn honesty in the game.

Well the West Indies were supposed to arrive in NZ today but only their coach turned up. The players were stuck in Dubai with Visa problems. 1st game is vs Auckland on the 5th and the 1st Test is in Dunedin on the 11th. Looking forward to this one, keen to travel to Napier for the 2nd test.

Hold ya horses boys...
He isn't going anywhere I wouldn't expect... not yet anyway:

The Normanby often gets this sorta thing - and there are plenty of mumpty yobbo's that drink there too... I was there once and was only just missed by a flying glass - which was reported the next day as "Lions players in pub brawl" when in fact they were on the opposite side of the bar, and the "brawl" was one muppet throwing a glass then getting removed... don't believe everything you read, unless it's on Wikipedia of course

Then why the f**k do you go to that kind of place when you have that rep or profile? The guy is clearly an idiot.
and who the f**k is Andy Moles? Well apart from being former ND coach and now the Black Cap coach.....

Who cares as long as we don't have to put up with Bracewell until April.
NZ Cricket have finally sacked him, great, I can't wait for the truth to come out
about him from the players.

Redmond is going too well at the moment to change. I predicted he'll get 25 runs in the Aussie series and already he's up to 13 after just two innings!! He's exceding expectations.
Bell however clearly isn't up to it after his test century last season before being dropped. His 146 and 122 in two innings this season may not be enough compared to Redmonds sterling efforts.
Bell was poor last year too, with nearly 800 first class runs, to not get 1000 is unforgivable.
John Wright is now a selector (yes!)
I'm sure a former world class opener should be able to help rectify things instead of the craziness that has been going on.
Jury is out on the new coach - all I know is that ND are struggling.

Peter Ingram with a 200 aswell. Lots of runs in Domestic Cricket, Skippy getting a hundy aswell. Not any year that there are this many runs early in the season
Corrected.
Whats going on with the pitches? Are they playin on artificials? They're usually minefields before chrissy...

perhaps the local batsmen have actually figured out how to play on a greenish pitch! got to be good for the enw coach coming in and seeing the local ghuys scoring runs, Redmond and Flynn will be sweating a bit now I'd expect. No runs for them in Aus and I'd say therte will be some changes.

No need for Flynn to be sweating, he's been one of our best in the last 2-3 tests.
Redmond should be on his way home already, and the first NZer we find in Adelaide who can hold the bat in a proper grip should go in for him in the second test.

Plenty of big scores from the latest round:
Bell 122Franklin 219
Woodcock 102*
McIntosh 191
Williamson 73
Ingram 247
Sinclair 101
Watling 111
Broom 140*
If only our test players could do the same.
wtf happened to our unplayable pitches? Franklin plane Australia. If they had any balls they would. FFS. It certainly shows the shed is not bare. I'm looking for the averages for these guys. Cricinfo used to hold first class information too right?

Just heard NZ are going to play Fulton and bat him at 5, what a waste of time put him at 3 and move Ryder to 5 where he should be. Also heard Mcullum to 7 which i think is about right.[/QUOTE]
Yeh, but that would make sense. If we picked batsmen with technique 1 2 and 3, strokemakers 4 5, and a good anchor/finisher at 6, allrounders 7 and 8 wouldn't that just be a little bit...hmm conventional? Doing stupid and pointless things, just to mess with the heads of our established players is Bracewell's style right?
What are you saying man? he's coming off back to back singles! he's the only one in the team showing consistent batting form.

New coach, new home series... new openers?
Here's what I'd like to see... Pick batsmen to bat where they've been successful, and pick them for a series... then review so... 1st test vs Windies:
Bell
McIntosh
How (He's a three, not an opener)
Taylor
Ryder (He's a five or six, likes to play shots - not a test level three)
Flynn
McCullum
Vettori
Southee
O'Brien
Martin
If/When Jake's fit, he comes in for Ryder or Flynn and bats six... If/When Jimmy's fit to bowl (ie: after Chrissy) and continues bowling well, I'd bring him in for O'Brien, and bat him ahead of Southee... then we have a better balanced bowling attack, not to mention immeasurably deeper batting!... if he shows the form at test level that he has for Wellington, then move him ahead of Dan in the future, if not a bit higher... I remember in his late teens he was an outstanding batsman at age group level, etc...

Really like your thinking there Surge.
As for Franklin, I've always thought that to stay longer in international cricket, he should turn himself into a batting all-rounder. Don't know how feasable that is now given he's not that young anymore.

He only turned 28 last month so if his body's ok, he's got at least 5 yrs... if he can bat at 7/8 and bowl as a 4th seamer he becomes another all rounder... so we have him, McCullum & Dan at 7/8 & 9 we'd be pretty solid, if his batting comes on... Southee at ten...
Word is he's changed his action and is bowling a bit quicker - with less effort and impact... remodelled that awkward looking over-long delivery stride he had...
Here's hoping he kicks on, would be great to see him do well
(and I reckon we may need a new allrounder, particularly for tests - I think we've broken the current one and if he plays tests it'll be as a 5/6 batsman who bowls a wee bit... can see him becoming a hit & giggle specialist - and good on him too!)

For me Franklin comes into the team only as an allrounder if Jacob gives up bowling, im not sure I would have both of them in the team as allrounders with Dan aswell.
Flynn for me has a spot for as long as he wants it, I think he is a long term number 3 but should let him settle for a while at 5,6,7. I disagree with you Surge on How, I think he is an opener and we should persevere with him. Im a McIntosh fan, when he gets hundreds he gets big hundreds, 3 double centuries I think.
As to the role of a number 3 I think they need to be able to change a game, whether that be as a pure wall or as a strokeplayer, I think its Lawry or it could be Chappel always goes on about how a number 3 needs to be able to counter punch. I guess How could play this role but i quite like Ryder there, got two good starts last test but got himself out and got a jaffa. I think having Fulton breaking up the Ryder, Taylor, McCullum trio is a must (or Flynn for that matter). Needs someone in there to cool them down.
As much as I dislike redmond and think he is up to eff all I think he was starting to show something in the second innings in Brisbane, had done the hard work and was looking okay. Getting out caught and bowled in a test match is a bit of a no-no though.

Surely Franklin selects himself? Good left arm strike bowler who scores first class double hundereds and hits big sixes. I have to say I think Flynn would make way for a team with both Oram and Franklin.
Harsh, but there is plenty of time for him to try to force his way back in. unless you drop Fulton again and put Flynn at 5, or at 3...which is mickeying him about. One of the reasons for his success is probably that he is in the right place in batting order for him at the moment. Though I'm sure he could cope with 5.
Flynn has deservedly earned plaudits, but two world class all rounders would be great. The other option would be Franklin for Southee if big Jake were fit too. weakens the bowling a bit, but is a strong strong batting line up.

We'll agree to disagree on How B-man, he can play that role, and has done before - more importantly, I believe it's where he can contribute more to the team... I like what I've seen of him at three, and his first class record at three is impressive, whilst he hasn't done much as a test opener thus far... I'd like to see Flynn stay where he is for the foreseeable future, he's still young - and I like how he bats (agree with your point about breaking up JR/RT & BM... JR at five then BM at seven) he's showing got some balls and a solid technique and provides a good anchor for the strokers to bat around, as he showed in Brissy, tho the strokers regretably forgot what type of stroking was required lol.
Whats Redmonds domestic record as an opener like? From what I've seen (which is only his test appearances) he doesn't seem to have the 'time' to play against the quick bowlers (140km+) as understandable as that is given there's not many/any in our domestic cricket - it just doesn't cut it for a test opener to be consistently late on playing shots... he seems anxious and whilst he did do some hard yards in Brissy, that dismissal was a Barry!!!
Agree with your first point re Jimbolino Frankliano... thats exactly what I was getting at lol
