From the NZ 20/20 team that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory Franklin out and Eliott retained. I thought Eliott's impression of batting like Stevie Wonder would have seen him rested from 20/20's, although he was the hero of the odi's he single handedly won the 20/20 for Aus.

Gezz, radiosport's advert for the Indian cricket tour.

I thought that kind of sh*t went out with the Goodies.

How to captain New Zealand A

Cricinfo staff

February 24, 2009

In the 18 Tests he's played, Jamie How has scored 771 runs at 23.36 Getty Images

Jamie How will lead New Zealand A against England Lions for the first of two four-day matches in Queenstown. How, 27, was dropped from the New Zealand squad for the final two matches of the home ODI series against West Indies last following his extended run of poor form.

How disappointed in his last three ODI series, scoring 105 runs at an average of 21 in the five-match series in England last year, and 80 at 21.33 in Bangladesh. In the series against West Indies, he managed only 27 runs in two matches. In the 18 Tests he has played, How has scored 771 runs at 23.36.

The focus will also be on James Franklin, returning from a long injury lay-off following knee surgery last year. He featured in the West Indies series but didn't make an immediate impact. He also played the one-off Twenty20 in Australia, bowled one over and scored three runs. The performances were not good enough to warrant him a place in New Zealand's Twenty20 squad to take on India.

Glenn Turner, New Zealand's chairman of selectors, said the series would provide an opportunity to both established and younger players to get time in the longer form of the game.

"Jamie How has agreed to captain the side, and this will give him an opportunity to find some form in a four-day setting," Turner said. "James Franklin also has a good chance to show whether he can regain the form he's shown in Test cricket previously with the ball and also show his improvement with the bat."

In James Franklin, Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan, the side would have three left-arm fast bowlers. "That's a bit unusual - and a good place to be in given that we have not had many left-arm quicks performing at this level in recent years," Turner said.

New Zealand A play the England Lions in four-day games in Queenstown, from March 1 to 4, and in Lincoln from March 7 to 10. The series finishes with two one-dayers at Palmerston North on March 13 and 16, and a Twenty20 at New Plymouth on March 19.

Squad: Jamie How, Brent Arnel, Trent Boult, James Franklin, Peter Ingram, Mitchell McClenaghan, Tim McIntosh, Bruce Martin, BJ Watling (wk), Kane Williamson, Luke Woodcock, Reece Young

First of three tests begins tonight between the Saffas and Aussies. 9:30pm start our time.

I'm picking 3-0 South Africa.

Aussies bowling lineup looks like complete sh*t apart from Johnson.

Its a mystery.
I love Red Badge. They had a lot to deal with. Makes me proud to work for them.

I also love Santy for starting a DISCO. that made my whole night.
I hope I remember it.

I'm still really meh about T20. Went to the game last night and should have really enjoyed it, but the format just leaves me so indifferent.
I mean, I'm happy we won (though should have been much more comfortable than it was in the end), but when the highlight of the night for me was the fight in the upper tier of Aisle 30, I know something's wrong...el grapadura2009-02-28 11:16:39

Lol yeah what exactly was that about I heard something to do with whisky then the guy started to run away right?

Not sure what it was about exactly , was too far down for those kind of details.
It was hilarious though, and the whole crowd in the Aisle was watching it, and one guy nearly got hit in the head with the ball from a Ryder 6 because he was watching the fight and had his back turned to the game.

Im angry/sad about the imapct T20 has had on the game as a whole but am beginning to enjoy it much more as a spectacle, mainly because you are starting to see some real skills, techniques and tactics developing specific to T20. Dan Vettori is a freak in this form of the game, B-Mac is developing and has a pretty impressive record. You watch the Indians and the Ozzies to a lesser extent and it seems like they think you hit a 6 or you do nothing but watching Brendon and even Ross Taylor you can tell they realise that you dont need to hit every ball for 6.
As for the f**king bottle throwing that the media as usual is beating up, it looked to me like one bottle that was nowhere near the player. Every comment made by NZ Cricket through this whole tour has to be kept in context by the fact that the BCCI has them by the balls, NZC know who they have to keep happy and they tell us to jump we ask how high and to where. The bottle throwing is a prime example, seemed to me like it had a lot to do with the Indians playing games trying to slow momentum

from what i read it was one bottle thrown which didn't even cross the boundary  - bit rich from the indians moaning about it though, how much crap gets biffed at the oppostion in india - they were just trying to slow things down.

The thing that gets me is that all the articles about the bottle throwing at the cricket they're trying to downplay it saying "its way worse in India" and this kind of thing - compare that to the fiasco when it happened at the Phoenix and everyone jumping on it as 'football's inherent hooliganism', and I get a bit peeved.

Regardless, clearing the first 3 rows isn't going to do anything except annoy well behaved fans.  Like sceptical said on stuff:
"i cant see what clearing the first 3 rows of seats has to do with the price of eggs...unless it's a 5 year old girl throwing the plastic bottle.."

Was an entertaining match anyway, that last over was magic.

With everyday I loathe the BCCI more.

Treat the players like nothing more than product, don't recognise FICA and won't reply to letters sent about player security. Also taking Tendalkar out of the Golden Oldies (can't remember the official name for it) T20 match, along with saying they won't let there players play for Wellington or Auckland.

If we are giving you this help then play for whoever the f**k we tell you too play.I know we didn't tell them to play for Auckland or Wellington but that is just because India says Jump and we say how high.....realistically the 2 players playing in the second round of State Championship matches involving Indians could have played for Auckland or Wellington this round.

BCCI just f**k off.

No sarcasm there, no matter what we're gonna get smashed so I wanted to see Tendulkar get a double-century.

What an innings from Tendulkar. Feel privileged to of watched that, along with Yuvraj's belligerent hitting too.

Good start from us though.

Three for me, and two for them.
