fall from grace? Last time he played in cap prem ( arguably a few years ago) was for Island bay. I would say he has moved up in the world as they have been ming

It's been a fair while since he played for them. This season he's been a regular starter in the Northern premier league which pisses on Cap prem. Which is why he is a great signing for your lot

Fuck this stupid game

Can anyone hall back Karori or is it their season to hit Central League?

Considering they put 5 on Brooklyn the other week...

maybe it's the weather as NW got 6 and then 5 blasted past them over the last couple of weeks?

or is it the start of SKI SEASON?

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Olympic 1-0 BNU, tight game. Olympics first team coach (I think) got sent from the sideline for having a go at the linesman towards the end of the game. Was right up behind him saying the refs had ruined the game etc so I hear.

Doesn't sound like the Greeks at all!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

they need to be told otherwise they think they have done a good job. I was at the Oly/BNU game and the ref was disgraceful. Giving the most obvious fouls by BNU on the most part a free kick to BNU.. When it was clearly a foul by BNU. The last straw was the foul on Hugo..

So the right thing to do was to abuse the young linesman who had next to no influence on any of these calls...? There was an assessor watching anyway.

And it's this sort of attitude which causes people to not want to referee (including myself).

Absolutely stupid justification for abusing referees and ARs.

I thoroughly enjoy it when people are brave enough to call out a volunteer official while hiding under the cloak of anonymity.

the services are paid for - so fair to expect a level of service.

The correct argument as you point out is that the volume and therefore the standard of refs is likely to be related to the amount of shark they get

Fair point greenie. Not volunteers but most wouldn't be making much net. If you listed all coaches and players in order from who received the most payments in a season, I wonder where refs would fit in.

Maybe if it is payment they are after then the officials can share the $200 fine

The way to avoid the $200 fine is to not abuse officials? Not that hard to work out surely?

Plus I can guarantee that the potential fine someone is going to get has never crossed my mind once while out on the field. A player/manager does something that warrants them to be sent from the field = they get sent from the field.

I played in the game against BNU and I'm not kidding here when I say it was the worst display from an official I have witnessed in my life and I've played a few games at this level. Yes my disciplinary record is not great at all and I'm not going to pretend I am an angel but the majority of the calls were so far wrong it was unreal. We talk about referees shouldn't get abused but the majority of the time it's not abuse, it's being questioned. The way I see it, football is a very passionate sport, it's a game where emotions run high and yes referees will make mistakes just as players do, but the difference is there is accountability when it comes to players. If I've played poorly I get told o have played poorly and may get dropped. But as players being open to criticism is part of the game and part of being human. Referees don't get that. In fact, there have been many occasions that I have heard of where teams have said to the referees that they can give them the game tape to run through, but the referees aren't interested  no accountability and a law unto themselves... I'm over the old poor referees, they don't get paid enough to deal with this sort of thing..., so pay them more. I would gladly pay out of my own pocket to ensure there was accountability if they aren't being paid enough... Give them $500 a game, Put it in the subs... Who cares. I haven't been paid a cent to play for my club, I do this as a hobby, but Im over it being muzzled not having the ability to say what I feel

Just so you know, I'm not hiding behind a fake name. My name is Mikey Halikias and I am happy to elaborate further with who ever wants to have a chat

There is a lot to unpicked here:

  • Probably an exaggeration, but I doubt the majority of calls were incorrect
  • Why should you be able to question the referee? His role is to make calls. Your role is to play. The coaches role is to coach. Sure, there might be some referees who don't know the LOTG inside out, but at Capital Premier I reckon the referees have a better understanding of the LOTG than most players/coaches. My experience is that players/coaches/fans/pundits have a very poor understanding of the LOTG. The role of the referee isn't to slow the game down to explain decisions to players. How would you like it is a referee/fan questioned every decision you made during a game. I'd imagine it would get tiresome pretty quickly. How many times to you see on TV a striker wave his finger at a lino because of offside call only to be shown to be offside in the replay?
  • I can't really comment on the accountability aspect, but referees get assessed. Aren't assessor the best people to make judgements? And perhaps if referees weren't treated like shark, you'd get more of them, and ones who have been poor drop down a grade.
  • If you were getting $40 odd a game, would you spend another 2-3 hours looking over a tape of their game? Some might, but these guys/girls have families and work to go to. Some might be interested but it's hardly fair to think that should be required.
  • You would be in a small minority of people willing to pay more subs.

I was also at this game . The ref didn't have a clue what was going on. Sure we don't like to criticize a ref but we are so reliant on a ref to be consistent and control the game. Players need to respect the ref, unfortunately this ref lost control of the game , blowing up nonexistent fouls etc.

I hate this saying. A ref can't control players. Players lost control of themselves is usually more accurate.
