Interesting article in LFE newsletter (from website - LFE was established by The Football League and The PFA in 2004 to deliver the Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme to all of the Football League Clubs in England and Wales.) on Team Wellington and NCR players.

rumour has it that Sean Morris and Juan Chang have signed for Olympic, also there is 1 if not 2 South American centre back on the way as well.

Rumour also has it that there are a number of central league players from various clubs that are playing for an island team in the O-league, so it may not be just Miramar and their numerous team wellington players affected by the overlapping competitions

That explains a few "international transfers" on the player Clearances page

Hate to think what Tinsley was like before if this is the mature version.

So olympic are going to play majority youth players and not make any big signings?

josh hill from stop out to wairapa is being talked about lots in football circles with matt borren likely heading to lower hutt

Would it be fair to think the league could be stronger this winter with WU/nix adding a team without taking players away from other clubs? That's assuming the WU/nix team is largely made up of kids who other wise wouldn't be playing CL

Nah coz Tawa were sharkhouse for a few years and weren't really taking players away from other clubs.

So are you saying all those Tawa players won't be picked up by other clubs because they aren't good enough?

rumour has it that Hamish Watson is currently in Sydney looking at a few different state league teams, would be a huge loss for the Rapa if he stays over there, however this could mean more minutes for Paul Ifill which wouldn't be a bad thing.

I heard a rumor the other day that the money in Rapa has dried up. Don't know how accurate it is but according to this person a proportion of players are in preseason training with other teams.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out if true

Lower Hutt City AFC is looking for suitable accommodation for a player(s) involved in our Central League Men's team. The player(s) will be overseas / out of town based and would appreciate the "kiwi hospitality".

Wonder how much that has to do with them not getting in to the extended ASBP? That was always the end goal wasn't it?

I think that decision to not give them the ASB spot would have evaporated the money.

That makes a lot of sense now that you mention it, will be interesting to see what Ifill does, if he will stick with them or go find greener pastures

Yeah he lives out there, but has an academy in Nelson so could end up with new Tasman team

Here's a rumour I heard today: Siggy to rapa???

Permalink Permalink

Was at PN Marist Clubrooms for the open day yesterday and the vibe there is very positive for the upcoming season, They have instituted and Elite program integrating their top 3 teams into a proper development, reserves, 1sts mix which is something new to them as well as picking up new coach's for the program including a specialist keeper coach.

Another contributor to the program there could be that another local club has folded their first team that was in the Federation League and the new reserve team coach's are coming from another club where they had some good dedicated players playing for them not the club.

Will be interesting to see how they progress this year with all this and their potential new signings.

Rumour has it that the two Taylor's from lower hutt are heading over the hill to play for rapa, could be a few awkward family dinner's as the parents of one of them are heavily involved with lower hutt and on the board

Just looked at Transfers page. It looks as though Olympic have picked upmost of the promising youth in Wellington. Quite a few from the wee wee nix, a few young Wharf lads also. All probably promised first team football. It's going to be interesting to see if the Jacobs revolution bears fruit or frustration.

What's going on here? Are youngsters thinking Jacobs offers better coaching than Hedge/Temple? Or is it that these weenixers know they won't make Wellington United Central League squad, and so are looking at Olympics 2nd team in Cap Prem, over WU's 2nd team in Cap 2?

Maybe Jacobs will use his links to Colleges in the States.

Maybe Wellington Olympic have more vision then other Wgton CL clubs and the young football players can see that. Maybe Bousoukis has had enough of the Phoenix spelling his name wrong. Maybe Stu Jacobs is one of Wellingtons best coaches and maybe Karori players have had enough of the clown Greenie and want to go to a better club.

You're probably right in some respects. However not all of the new talent can play CL.

The Focus for young footballers cannot be about 1 pathway. Through Olympic/ Kaizen there are multiple pathways via the US through James Prosser and Platform, Oversee's via numerous networks and Partner 'Insight'.

Correct me if I am wrong. But my understand through an extremely close sourest is that the WPFA is all about generating money!!

With respect, some of the players they are picking up would nearly make FTC.

Could be wrong.

I do think that the potential US Scholarship is the carrot Olympic will be using, hence why they are picking up the talent they have.

Plenty of pathways to US college; though Pross knows his stuff, so can see the attraction. WeeNix, or at least APFA, have placed players there too - Colvey, Hudson-Wihongi - and I imagine this will continue to be part of their programme; so am a little surprised any good weenixer heading to olympic for this reason alone. It would be great to see a Kiwi of the current generation kick on, but college soccer is even more international now than when the likes of Nelsen and Elliott (a generation ago), or even Boyens, Lochead, Boxall, Keat went through. Central League is shaping as having 3-4 clubs with pretty young teams.

Olympic are only offering what the young football player wants.... Full time football and pathway opportunities... Not rocket science. Ole been doing it for years succefully. Miramar try but they only can offer TW and they don't play youth!!!!
