Think they are best to do one game properly, and cover the rest in brief. Instead of trying to cover all 5 games evenly.

Sounds like a job for yellow fever...

for the record it was Gianni Bouzoukis (even spelt properly) who got the two goals for the Bubbles. Reports of his demise have obviously been greatly exaggerated.

I find the cap football site strange. Central football uses the same stupid fox system but they have implemented you need to put all players registered into teams there then you select your teams on the site and that gives you a printed team form (replaces the old team cards) then you have to log your results on the website including goal scorers so you always know who has played what game and who has scored.

Yeah Bouzoukis was hard to contain 2nd half . Harry edge got sent off taking him out.

Saw this quote in the Manawatu standard

"though Lower Hutt last week rattled four goals past a strong Petone team"

http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/sport/791...

Strange way to describe Petone's team this season.

Wests just thumped Wellington United 6-1. Did school hols affect weeweenix player availability?

Unless half of your squad is away of course... That's still unconfirmed though, I don't actually know but probably a valid 'excuse' or reason

Fuck this stupid game

Maybe they should let them play mcgarry and Rogerson , otherwise they will struggle for the rest of the season once O league players return.

Picking that they'll stay up. Anything more a bonus first year back in CL. Would like to know if school holidays is a factor or not though, not really ideal at this level. The pro thing is not worth talking about

weenix were poor. Their goal was via a penalty, never looked like scoring in open play.

Top goal scorers last year for Wgtn utd mcgarry Rogerson,Bouzoukis . None playing this year for them . It's going to be tough also lost both keepers . Poor coaching decisions

Cahill - fueri or whatever his name is was golden boot before today wasn't he?

With the whole point of their existence to get players into their pro team - they are always going to lose some of the cream. To be competing in most of their matches with a redic low average age is a good effort.

Is gulley returning?

Apart from today how have they gone so far this season without them?

beat PN Marist 5-3 away, Mar 4-3 at home and drew 3-3 with Petone a team who are as young if not younger than them (average age 17)

So they can score goals but probably need to look at defence!

They haven't played top teams yet - yeah Rory good player , Gulley a pro. So they Gona struggle

If that's the case Pwtone should get some professional players because when OLeague players return they will concede even more. Wellington Utd should develop depth just like every other CL side has to do.

I doubt the Nix care too much about winning games so long as they stay in the league. Their focus is player development.

Player development for who and what - mcgarry and Rogerson can't even get a game till ASB starts again . Won't play A league? What's the point ? Poster boys ? After viewing the photos it seems they were at full strength for the game against Wests, it seems Olympic and Wests have better youth players in there team.

how many 16/17 yr olds do those teams have?

Surely the Nix would want the best young players in the country? Otherwise what's the point developing 2nd rate players?? Sucking money out of the parents?? Olympic have two players on there books that are leaving for the US on scholarships.ole also have boys going. They have clear pathways.

surely a professional club is a clearer pathway than a scholarship.

Not that this is a pissing contest. Each are trying to develop players, with the same end goal. its a good thing.

US college is the fall back from getting a pro contract, that is, if you actually want to go to one (even then a lot who go end up quitting).  Any half decent player can go to college whenever they want

You would think so but its not always the case only 2 percent make it. So it's probably better to get a education and try for pro contract same time ie Ryan Nelson .
Permalink Permalink

yep. Kids will do whichever they think is best. With the nix they have another option/pathway now. I don't see the downside.

Correct - only downside is being in limbo ask Logan and Jimmy. Hopefully they will get there chance, but having resigned Hamish and Kosta doesn't look like it .

It's always going to be the case that the older players will fall out of the Phoenix system and be replaced with new ones.

Pro club structures are effectively sieves. Players flow through and the club picks a couple of them up and the rest fall out.

That's not the same in the case of Ole or Stu or anyone else trying to place kids in College where starting older is actually an advantage.

So there are some variables to consider apart from "whose kids are best".

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Seems a no brainer to be fair. Go to a US college, that way you get an education along with the football. Then you have a contigingency plan when you are one of the 98% who does not make it.

Turning around mid/late twenties realizing finally you were never going to make it as a pro footballer then working out how to make a livelihood seems unattractive to me.

The precursor to Weenix academy was Chch based APFA (Asia Pacific Football Academy). They were very proactive in getting players opportunities - college for Kip Colvey and Real Salt Lake academy for Hudson-Wihongi spring to mind. I'm sure when contracts aren't offered to current weenix players they will pursue other opportunities too. Of all the 16-17 year old kids running around for weenix, olympic, wests perhaps 1 or 2 may get pro contracts - at Nix or anywhere else. As rogerson and mcgarry are discovering (and as rufer and ridenton have before them) the life of a contracted pro footballer in NZ doesn't include playing winter amateur leagues. I think the greater question is will this weenix/wellington united project give more players more football opportunities than not? Surely it will.

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Agree - the APFA were a very professionally run operation, great coach in Jess , wee nix??? . Mcgarry , Rufer came from there. Problem is we only have one pro club, options are limited.
