And Olympic wonder why they're the club everyone loves to hate. Remarkable.

I don't believe that is an opinion shared by many and longer Guy.

I guess clubs get intimidated by clubs who have success. WO is a very well run club. The environment, now, is very professional. Gone are the days when WO players were seen to be beer drinkers and smokers, a label that can be attached to a number of clubs IMO.

WO is driven to provide young players opportunities to enhance their futures, hence the depth of young players at the club now. Its won't be long until WO players are on the International stage following in the footsteps of Clayton, Costa, Leo etc.

WO will be a leading club in NZ in the very near future as is the direction the club is committed to driving towards.

Garbs plays a massive role in that!!

I don't think people fault Olympic for their success, but I disagree with it being very professional. Sure they may not be drinkers and smokers but they seem to be the team that swears, argues and gets all the cards. The supporters on the sideline don't seem to be much better either. Sure each club has one or two players and supporters that makes the club look bad but Olympic seem to have that at every level of team that plays for the club.

It is good to see you have set your sights on being a leading NZ club and driving youth opportunities though so I credit you for that.

I'm not sure you can claim "Garbs" has a "massive role" in the club's new-found professionalism when he comes on here and does what he does.

olympic has always been professional like many wellington clubs over the years and the drinking smoking thing is a NZ culture thing and not a Olympic only culture.

The club is working on a good programs like most clubs today to help develop players but they still have the history and heart which is often displayed on the field as over the top passion  and thats why i and some others have developed a hate yet respect for them when playing the infamous GREEKS over the years.

I do hope they don't throw this away to be PC correct wannabes of the new football culture like NWAFC seem to have done.

No Olympic passion would make a boring wellington football culture.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

some officials deserve it unfortunately .

but most of us just let it slide when we get a shocker official as we don't like fines.

and it is pointless as it never helps matters as history shows.

but then playing 10 greeks is always better than playing 11

The fans they bring are quite charming. Smoking on the sideline (local by-law prevents it), threatened a Lady who asked them (politely) to stop. Quite odious.

That's an interesting position to take. I must go sacrifice some virgins to repent for the sins I've committed to deserve that wrath

Go a couple of weeks without us and refuse referee appointments if we are that bad. I'm sure you'll show everyone how it's done with ease.

The Capital Football misconduct page has 4 teams: Upper Hutt, Petone, Wairarapa & Carterton with people serving suspensions for "offensive, insulting, abusive language and/or gestures at a match official" & several clubs seem well represented in the yellow cards table.

I presume some earlier season misdemenaours (from any club) will have been served so not on the current web page ? but I think its a blinkered view in saying Olympic seem to have it at every level of team.

Ok, so the top part only shows the current ones and doesn't show people that have already served their suspension but from my comment I wasn't meaning swearing as directed at the referee and getting the four game stand down.

But your comment about cards made me have a good look at the list (Take into account no players show who have finished the season with less than 3 yellow cards so it is missing that data) however Olympic lead the list for most yellow cards and most players who got yellow carded. Only bit they don't win is yellow cards per person which goes to Stop Out, followed by North Wellington then Olympic.

So when Olympic has 26 more yellows than the next nearest team (Lower Hutt) and 4 more players than the next nearest team (Lower Hutt) I would think that the data backs up my original comment.

Lloyd O'Keefe has just signed on as their manager, Ben Sigmund on board, maybe it won't be Wharfies who bottle the promotion to Central League this season

Sigmund is surely a big drawcard for any young player. Wouldnt be surprised if he attracts a few youngsters.

Rapa making a few moves.. Signed Cameron Lindsay, and have Dale Higham and Seule Soroman returning. Add in Mason smith chettleburgh and Ifill (if he stays on) looking good so far.

Also saw that Ryan Tinsley has left Waitakere United and headed back to England to play for Sheffield FC. So would be guessing he isn't returning to play for Napier City Rovers this season.

So Sunday's SSPremiership game between Hawke's Bay United and Tasman (at Memorial Park in Palmerston North) will effectively be a Wairarapa United trial!

A lot of money for a cup NZF are not overly hyped about.

Well yeah but there isn't much is there? Small population so they're always only going to have a few locals.

I have no problem with how Keinzley runs Wairarapa United because (unlike most franchises) a good chunk of it is his own personal money and he has consistently provided opportunities both to locals and to players who were wanting to become locals for the long term.
