That comment came more from an historical context. History shows that Rangers and New Brighton (the 2 constituent clubs of Coastal) have dominated the womens game in the Mainland region for a very long time. Big ask for the girls to back up again today after getting past Woolston Tech in a tough game yesterday but hey, them's the breaks. More incentive to ramp it up next year. Good for the game to see the title go to the 3rd different club in the past 3 years, well done FC2011. Coastal still have the women's knockout cup and the Reta Fitzpatrick to play for, all in all another good solid season from a talented young side.

Noone gets angry or heated on this forum anymore dude.
I let my guitar speak for me
It actually appears that whatever Coastal are now they can trace there current success back through the history of both Rangers and New Brighton. I know the club values the Reta Fitzparrick Cup as highly as any other trophy because of that heritage. And it looks like several clubs have shown dominance at some stage. Good for Nomads to have something to cling to as they stare life in the football wilderness in the face for the next 12 months at least. What happened to that dominance?

They had three women's teams back in the day, don't have any now.
Chatted to another old player from that club at the other weeks Coastal Nomads game, we both reckoned that their mens team playing in the SSL back in the mid 70s would have held there own in the MPL this year, if you BTTFd them forward to today.
Mind you 10 of the 11 starting players had played senior football for Canterbury or higher.

Makes you wonder what happens? I know there is a cyclical nature to the ups and downs of club life but why is a club that was so successfull in the womens game no where to be seen now?
Oh and another claim to fame for Coastal as the most successful mens Sunday League club historically through their New Brighton constituent, the mighty Rovers!

They then ended up at Ferrymead Bays [no surprise that if you looking to be paid] neither of Bays or Chch U have done anything in the women's grade worth raving about.
Bays no women's team anymore and Chch U one team only in the 3rd tier.
Papanui Redwood and Wiamak look as though they could be clubs getting amongst the higher women's grades in a year or two.

You should see the top team in the Sunday League in 2011. They're amazing!

Vim. Yes they have cleaned up with out losing a game
Will go and have a look at the Coastal team in the next Bolam cup game if and when it's played,
Top game coming up Coastal Classics vs Halswell Quarrymen Maters 45s Cup final.

Summer sports would argue they didnt get any extra when the shakes stole their end of season to the tune of 6 weeks. Mainland have made it super clear last weekend of august is it, we're lucky to be getting grounds for summer use as it is.
The rep programme should be interesting in terms of training grounds etc, hopefully all the teams to well....
