Heard a whisper that there's something going down at APFA at Lincoln? Maybe looking to become NZF accredited provider & thus in competition to FTC? Offering more local players opportunities? Any info anyone?

Looking at clearances page (ie transfers), a host of Mainland (ie Academy) girls have gone to Parklands. Thinks that's Shane Dyer's club. Will be interesting to see if other Mainland players follow their Academy coaches.

Sigh. That's what I have been referring to!

Sorry Vim, your earlier stuff confuzzled me a tad. Have the FTC coaches been made public?

Coastal Pre-Season: Woolston 4 Western 1; Chch Utd 2 Coastal 1.

Might have to adjust my predictions!

Vim, Coastal 2 from 2 but not the way you wanted. What happened tonight?

If Coastal defeat Cashmere Technical in their final game could still finish at the bottom of Pool A.

Unconfirmed rumor #2: ex tech junior convenor and board chair Simon Gerathy has transferred his 3 children to coastal (2 from tech, one from Mainland academy). Word is he resigned in november and doesn't believe the merger is being well handled. Opinion: another win for coastal.

watched one of his boys on Sunday, trialing for arguably the most competitive grade for Coastal , he looked good.

how close to full strength is coastal going in their tournie? or is it a ressie team trying to compete?

Defo not a reserve side. We have roughly had a full selection of players, however have been playing a number of different combinations. Second game we were full strength, altho only later in the second half. Our best 11 will start against Woolston on Tuesday. Here's hoping!VimFuego2012-02-29 22:37:20

On the FTC front, few unhappy people about how it is all being played out. Initially unhappy about being offered a spot, then reneging and having to trial, only to have 17 people trial for 16 spots. Odd?

That is strange at best. Then again, trials for 17 is easier than trials for 107.

Strong and even MPL again this year? heres hoping

numbers of trialists  has differed wildly. But some age grades will have 2x the amount of entrants as the oldest group.  Players invited to second trials this week. Good job, 1 trial was never going to cut it.

Coastal pre season results from last Thursday night.
Halswell 3 FC2011, 0. [H.T 3. 0]
Bays 1 Nomads 1.    [H.T 1. 1]
The tournament draw has worked out well with both of next Thursday night games to decide at least the 2nd playoff spot in both groups.

Yes at ths stage only Cashmere Technical the only side into semi's, with a big asked for both Coastal and FC Twenty to reach the semis.

Also a big game on Tuesday between Halswell and Ferrymead Bay with Halswell, who top Pool B, needing as least a draw to reach the semi's, with a win for both Bays and Nomads see the Hawkes missing the cut for the semi's.

Remaining games are with points in ( ):
Tuesday 6 March
Pool A Coastal Spirit (0) vs. Cashmere Technical (6)
Pool B Ferrymead Bays (2)  vs. Halswell (4)

Thursday 8 March
Pool A Western (3)  vs. ChCh United (3)
Pool B FC Twenty (1) vs. Nomads (2)

Speed wobbles at Cashmere Tech?

Seven Tech Junior A team coaches from last year are NOT coaching their teams this year or have left the club: 10A, 11A, 12A, 13A, 14A, 15A, 17A. That's a helluva lot of coaches to lose in one off-season.

Will be interesting to see if the new club(s) enter a Mens DIV 1 team as they have a lot of youth players who can't get into the PDL side because Danny H bought his team over from the Academy. For example none of the Cashmere Tsunami U19 team (runners-up) is likely to play PDL this year (well, not at CashTech anyway!) Clubs are circling however with Western, Coastal and Bays all picking off players. Cashmere had a Div 1 team last year but I don't know where they are at because their coach went to Oz and it looks like Tech is running seniors now; and clearly Cashmere is running Juniors. 2 clubs in one? Have Mainland Board signed off on this new club(s) model by the way? They hadn't before Nike Cup was played.

In possibly good news for the club(s) they could advance to the Melbourne round of Nike Cup if they beat Petone today. I think there is only 1 team from each state in that round. Lucky for NZ non-Auk feds (1 team from popn about 1 mill); but NSW with popn closer to 10 mill only get one entry too!

Cashmere Technical defeated Petone 2 - nil, earlier this afternoon in the NZ Southern Conference Final and now head to Melbourne for the Pafic Finals with six sides from Aussie plus Otumoetai (Tauranga) who won the NZ Northern Conference Finals against Onehunga Sports and Forrest Hill Milford United.

The Pacific Finals played 23- 25 March.

Good win it was too: Cashmere Tech thoroughly deserved their win. Petone huffed and puffed, but didn't create much, whereas Cashmere scored two quality goals. A fine effort from the lads.Off to Melbourne they go...

all predictable. at least 5 of those grades had both clubs in D1 last season. 2 coaches into 1 team does not go, and  parents will also take their kids to another club after trials if not selected for the team they consider the right one for their child. It is interesting that the split is that pronounced in favor of Cashmere coaches.

what I'm now  interested in is those who have left , then not making the 1st team of the new club they have joined

Cashmere didnt have a div 1 team last year but the did in the 2010 season, pretty sure they back in div 1 this year but i heard that before the merger was confirmed for this season, fc twenty have another team in div 1 aswell i think

Div 1 is going to be really interesting this year. Was a bit of a disaster last year (Western's 3rd team got third!) So with Nomads in there as the main bet for winning, with Mid Canty as the only other contender seeing as FC2011 can't be promoted, nor WoolstonTechCashmere. What happens if one of those wins the league and Nomads gets second? Do Richmond etc have to decide at the beginning of the year whether they want to be promoted? Will this be the last year of the 8 team MPL? What about some Southern League seeing as Dunedin are now down to 8 teams? Can I fit anymore questions into one post?

If Nomads finish second then could not be promoted. Rules say you must win the qualifying league(s).

Tonights MPL pre-season was Coastal 2 Woolston 2 and Bays beat Halswell 2-1.

So Cashmere Technical and Ferrymead Bays first to reach the semis with Noamds climbing above Halswell if they defeat FC Twenty11 on Thursday with the winner of the Western vs. ChCh United going into the top four.

West Coast road trip!

Stretford End: There's your answer about the approving of the merge too. Might pose a few more questions however.

Halswell lost 3-1 to Bays last night not 2-1... Still open as who tops that group. If Nomads or FC Twenty win by enough goals they can still top their group.

Weren't you questioning the Nike Cup a few pages back? Doesn't worry me, but there was some thoughts about were they a club with their transfers going to Cashmere or something. And interesting what you said about all the Tech coaches leaving and PDL issues.

The Mainland MPL/PDL/Div 1 meeting tonight should make it clear as to what format 2012 and 2013 will take as regards number of teams and promotion.
Seeing as half of the teams in Div 1 will already have an MPL team how can it be a qualifying league?

What clubs want to play MPL that don't already?
If 2013 is a ten team league and I think it will be, be interesting to see how and when clubs have to decide to be in the league.
Are West Coast thinking of competing in MPL and using Chatham Cup as a bench mark?
Good for the boys to get an away draw. Pub crawl over and back for the times I've played games over there.

Let us know how the meeting goes. I agree it needs looking at. With Dunnydin going down to 8 teams it seemed a good time to link the two leagues, however now they are going to add a youth team to make it 9 teams and a bye, it seems to be each to their own.

And we want the West Coast road trip for the Chatham Cup. Not in the league tho sorry.VimFuego2012-03-07 18:25:59

I'm suprised west coast has the depth over there, but hey good on them for giving it a nudge, hope they draw universities or someone of a similar level at home in the first round...give them a better chance to progress (gotta love a cup underdog) and give a team a chance for a wicked pisstrip

Hi Vin you are a little bit incorrect.

The FootballSouth is going from a 10 team league, last season to a 9 team league this season, Southland have pulled, so a bye each round and it was hoped that the 8 Dunedin sides (the ninith club if Queentown) would play the youth team - that is heading over the play in the Milk Cup, the weekends when they have the bye.

There was doubt if Queenstown were going to entry this season but would be great if both of the South Island leagues were 8 teams then could split the top sides into a South Island League in the latter part of the season. r

No Qtown still in, there was talk that they were going to pull the pin but come to nothing, hence a nine team league. Crazy for the top league to have a bye.
