Halligangate: my mail is that he hasn't gone but that he has been restricted to SOLELY PDL duties.

That only leaves Price, Braithwaite, Cowen, Nichols and Pitman either in or surrounding the dugout .......... oh, and the coach John Brown. If JB gets reappointed at the end of the season Halligan will be off. Mind you huge pressure on JB to win the league, if he doesn't he'll be gone for sure.

After playing chch utd twice at preseason tournament I think they'll struggle to play consistent enough to win the league, my money is on waimak, be good to see a new club in mpl next year

Those in the dugout (or more correctly those that should not be in the dugout) is a pet hate of mine. Rules state only those that are named on the team card and this includes coaching/management staff, physio etc are allowed in the dugout but week after week this rule seems to be broken. Alot of the niggle in some games seem to happen around what is said from the bench.

In one game last season in the MPL a suspensed player stayed in the dugout the entire game.

About time this rule is enforced, ceretainly at MPL level were the game has a fourth official.

Chatham Cup Details Copied from NZ Football.

ASB Chatham Cup set to celebrate 90 years of glory

April 10, 2012

AUCKLAND – One hundred and thirty two teams will line up for the 90th year of the ASB Chatham Cup which gets underway on Anzac Day.

The competition begins with 18 fixtures in the qualification round with some of the competition’s smaller clubs battling for the right to enter the main draw.

“The Chatham Cup holds a very special place in New Zealand sport,” said New Zealand Football Chief Executive Grant McKavanagh.

“The early rounds are as much part of the Chatham Cup story as the business end.  Road trips, inter-city rivalries and local derbies are all part of the 90-year history of the competition and this year will be no different.

“It’s one of the oldest competitions in the country and the knockout format throws up all sorts of drama, quirks, twists and upsets every year. Nothing creates a buzz in the clubrooms like a Chatham Cup victory,” said McKavanagh.

The curiously-named Puhoi Wolfpack will host South Auckland Rangers who end a five year absence from the Cup.  Also returning to the knockout competition is Bucklands Beach who entered their U-19 side and will host Waitemata City.  Sunday League sides Nixon Park and Waitakere Rangers face long away trips to Cambridge and Taupo respectively.

The Central and Southern Regions get into full swing in Round One, but a sole qualification round fixture in each will be played.  A central derby between North End and New Plymouth Rangers will determine who advances to the competition proper, while in the top-of-the-south, newcomers Central Pirates host Wakefield FC in Blenheim.

The ASB Chatham Cup played along regional lines in early rounds, moving into an open national draw at the quarterfinal stage. The final is scheduled for September 15.

The ASB Chatham Cup’s format, like the trophy itself, is modelled on England’s FA Cup and has remained relatively unchanged over its 89 year history. It has been contested every year since 1923 apart from 1937 and three years at the end of World War Two.

Last year, Central United enhanced their reputation as one of the great clubs in the history of the ASB Chatham Cup with a 6-1 victory over Lower Hutt City in the 85th final at Wellington’s Newtown Park.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Central joined fellow Aucklanders Eastern Suburbs as five time winners with only University Mount Wellington, with seven titles, and six time winners North Shore United and Christchurch United above them on the honours board.

Shows CashTech have 100 teams all up!  Wow, that's heaps.  Then FC2011 on 81, Halswell on 63, Waimak on 63 and Coastal on 51.

Some big clubs out there huh?

Would be interesting to see the breakdown of seniors vs. juniors for each club.

Can't be bothered working it out for other clubs but Coastal have 11 senior teams (I think!) therefore 40 junior teams.

Looking at Cash Tech it appears they have 16 senior teams (however it counts the cup rounds as a new team) so they must have around 80 junior teams.

These numbers exclude little ones in on-house leagues.

So Vim, was there a point to the exercise? Growth areas/resource requirements, possible merger or de-merger targets, or purely an academic exercise for the football-mad? A post without gossip, wild conjecture or something that makes us laugh is somehow less of a post, don't you agree?

Cheers the one I find the most surprising is Universties with 21, compared with clubs that have a junior section like ChCh United with 24.

Look, when you guys aren't chucking out the gossip mid week and I'm all lonely searching the internet I need to find something other than porn and grumpy cat images.
There was no gossip, wild conjecture or lols, so I guess we'll just leave it there.

So is Chch Utd in a precarious position as an entity? I hear they gained membership due to the number of non-gruntled (it's a Woody Allen thing) Cashmere Technical people transferring.

So, Mainland now advertising DeBono's FDO role.

2 things caught my eye.
Surprised to see how formalised the scouting part of it was - scouting networks for 11-17 year olds.
3 month successful trial before offering full time employment.

Is anyone apart from Monsef in the running?

Which territory does Mike de B have; will Monsef get those clubs? Oops, i wrote that without even considering anyone else could get the role. I wonder.

Plenty of folks on this forum with knowledge and thoughts that could do it. Maybe I'll chuck my mexican hat in the ring?  I would have thought Monsef would be more suited the the coaching coaches side of things rather than the fun football etc...

Waste of a talented coach if KM [or any better applicant/ coach] has to spend a Saturday looking after little kids who can't kick a ball at 5 or 6 years old.

De Bono looked after the northern clubs, Nomads, Waimak etc.

Permalink Permalink
almost 13 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Yeah don't disagree with above 2 comments, but Walker has to fill a job and the job is much broader than coaching coaches. Maybe opportunity to re-structure to ensure Monsef gets in the tent, but that still leaves bread and butter of the FDO role and Coggan will want to keep things tidy budget wise, won't he?

De Bono ran/co ran a few of the coaching courses with Tim Bush. Monsef is an asset regionally with his knowledge and he'd be one of the 'free agents' I'd hope would be in the running for it (if he wanted it of course).

Massive round in the MPL this weekend. Who'da thunk Western could top the table after last year's efforts.  Perhaps the pre-season tourney is a trend-setter.

I'm picking Bays 2 Tech 2, Coastal 2 Nomads 1, Western 1 Nelson 3, Halswell 4 FC2011 0.

AW82:  has there ever been a one-week Hurley Shield reign?  There better not be this weekend.

Yes a few - Western, Cashmere Technical (will check the records later). Shield changed hands 6 times last season which was a record - was also like the kiss of death if you were the holder in 2012.

For any other train spotters out there there have been six one game tenure of the Hurley Shield - Nomads twice, Western twice and one each for Halswell and Cashmere Technical.

The longest tenure is Woolston Technical of 13 defences.

Since 2007 when the Shield was first introduced there have been 56 games with the shield changing hands 16 times.

Only two clubs that have played for the shield - Rangers and Burnside have never won it.

Would be a while since Coastal women were beaten in the league. Their reserve/PDL/18s (???) team were also trounced 4-1 by cashmere. Maybe the balance of power has shifted?

And on the women's game, Coastal have what I've discovered is a school team playing under the Coastal Rangi name (Rangi Ruru). At the risk of displaying my ignorance on such matters, why the different rules/approach for boys/girls football re clubs/saturdays; school/midweek? Is the Rangi/Coastal model one that might be a path forward for the for the age old chestnut of schools v clubs?
