Sounds like a lot of BS to me.

CTFC guys I talked to tonight think it's a done deal.

So they did have good Intel.

Even if this is just for Chatham Cup games, this is great news for the game in this part of the world. Marketed correctly, it should be used as an opportunity to get bumper crowds to English Park; with showcase matches - womens, youth - on the undercard.

There is a month stand down for any player going from a professional to amateur status.

Rules around playing in the Chatham Cup have changed in resent years, you no longer have to have played two games before running out on the Cup.

Pertinent rules are:

7.4 Club player eligibility

7.4.1 In all matches of this competition, each player, except where he has played for his club during the previous season and has not played in any match for any other club in New Zealand during the current season, must have been registered with his club for ten business days prior to the playing of any match in the competition.

7.4.2 All players competing in matches in the competition which are played on or after 30 June must be registered members of their respective clubs as at 30 June of that year (and must continue to be registered members of that club on the date of the match). Any players transferring to or registering with the club after 30 June are not eligible to participate in the competition.

I posted this link on the Mainland Women's thread as first saw on line in the Nelson Post but see now in The Press this morning about under age players:

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/78774435/13y...

The only really young player, under 15,  I can recall playing in the old Southern League was Aaran Lines. I think Aaran was 14 when he played for Western when Terry Conley was the coach, and Terry was Aaran's mentor / coach.

Coastal have just signed Halswell's best player, some Russell Brand lookalike that we took the piss out of in the game against them but he is now beyond reproach.

Hope Tech start Sigmund, White and Clapham tomorrow in some superstar line-up. They know this will be a challenge. :-)

I think if you check up on the Russell Brand lookalike (aka Matt Carruthers) he was on Cashmere Technical books before being signed for Halswell and now signing for Coastal.

In the ChCh qualifying league I see ChCh United got up over Selwyn 5 - 2 (at Rolleston) with Nomads 4 - 1 over Burwood and Waimak 2 - zip over Burwood.

After 3 rounds Nomads on 9, Selwyn, ChCh Uited on 6, Waimak 4, Burwood 1 and Parklands 0.

Nomads take on Selwyn at Tulett next Saturday.

Despite the result last night I thoroughly enjoyed the game. There wasn't a lot between the two sides and it could have gone either way.

We hit the post and then shot the rebound straight at the keeper, and a had a few other close chances too. Tech had more of the possession and shots on goal/off target however the key thing was they finished two of them. First was a White one on one, and the second was a last minute free kick (which was never a free kick) that Tech scored from just outside the box. Worst part of the night was the over the top celebration after that goal as their players had a gay porn jizzfest right in front of the Coastal fans trying to rub our nose in it like the won the FA Cup. I dunno, just left a sour taste but didn't expect much more.

All in all, a good game of football between two good sides. Could be a more interesting story once the rest of the Tech A team come back.

Tech v C.Spirit a very good game: Tech's extra class pulled them through, but hats off to Coastal; they really took it to them, playing an exuberant high tempo game. I thought the Coastal youth played particularly well and weren't overawed at all. Oxley up front for Tech played a very good centre forward game: always showed for the ball, held it up well and played people in. He's the type of centre forward Coastal need IMO to  " round off " their team. Tech's goal celebration? Ridiculous...

Damn I love football. Some awesome somewhat shocking results and some great football. Thought uni were brilliant in the first half fell asleep in the second, western were rubbish all round. Really entertaining game by Coastal n Cash tech. Coastal n coach Ekow can hold their heads high I thought they played some entertaining football n had tech worried at times. Some decent performances from Russell Brand, Red jnr and Dantè for coastal...Whitey n da twins were decent, thought Ogilvie n Stu were below par as well as Barty n really think the Haligan boy as nice a person he is, is a rubbish player. But thts just my humble opinion, I'm sure others will disagree which is wht this forum is for. Looking forward to long weekend double headers.

Beautiful overhead in a final probably means a little more than a last minute doubling of the lead. No biggie, it doesn't bother me just mentioned it.

Here's a question open for debate.

What are people's thoughts on players having flights paid for to fly into and out of Christchurch to play in games? Where does this fit in relation to players being 'paid' to play for clubs?

Regulations state

"(f) Travel and hotel expenses incurred through involvement in a match and the costs of a player’s equipment, insurance and training may be reimbursed without jeopardising a player’s Amateur status."

So if Tech pay for BS to fly to games it's no different to any other club giving players petrol vouchers to travel to a game. If anything, the "petrol voucher" scenario is far more open to abuse whereas the cost of the flight will presumably be exactly that. So all legit and above board as far as I'm concerned
