Yeah.  Been thinking that too.  Who will take their first penalty I wonder?
AucklandPhoenix
Tense game. Probably however Auckland had the better chances and deserved the win.

Would have been filthy however if I was an opposition fan with that penalty. It’s a penalty any day of the week and this bull shark of VAR having different angles is just that - bull shark. Saying that they scored in the next play so guess it worked out square.

Auckland haven’t had a penalty in 15 games so must be due one in the derby

As someone else said, probably draw worthy but you have to give them credit, they just don’t give up. Reminds me so much of us last season, except I don’t think they’ll miss the opportunity. Which sucks, big time. They just keep grinding out those opportunities and wins. I missed the pen call, home advantage?

14,051 attendance apparently - they're doing pretty well to be consistently getting around 14k

14k in season 1 with the novelty factor, top of the table. Should be 20k...

I guess it shows once things have settled down in a few years and they hit a rough patch performance wise they'll probably be getting crowds similar to ours.
Why so negative man? Why can’t we celebrate NZ football doing well rather than hoping for their fan base to dwindle in the future?

I'm all about celebrating NZ football. And I certainly hope they keep getting the support. All I was saying was that I can see it dwindle, that's all.

Mindblowingly bad take

Potentially it will if they have a bad season, but I think the owners would have bitten your hand off, if they thought they would get 14k consistently in year one. Coupled with the derby’s, one or two big games like the opener and no doubt finals football, their average will likely be over 18,000, which we know for NZ football is bloody awesome - if not dream land.

Coupled with 20,000 plus shirts out there, the base has been made.

Player wise, you would also think that their second year squad will be even stronger.

Was right there, in the port - clear as day pen, and I’ll be interested to see what the explanation is. Shocked it wasn’t given or checked further by the ref

Seemed like an Alex King make up moment for sure. That’s why I screwed up before. They stopped the game. I assumed it had been a pen.

Tbh when you look at AFC and Nix squads there is a huge gulf. At the moment who in the current starting Nix team would start in the current AFC team apart from Costa. I'm not at all an AFC supporter but i do enjoy seeing all those kiwi boys doing the business.

Awful goalkeeping from Kurto.

To be honest, how did Macarthur not put a man on the back post?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

01 Feb 08:22
Wouldnt have mattered, they had one on the front post for the first goal.

I'd rather Moreno. Keeper and ball both end up back of the net.

I remember 14k Wanderers fans all kitted out, singing and chanting week in/out, half of which magically evaporated when things got rough...

By the way, all ALM clubs crowds have steadily decreased over the years, that's a fact. Why would AFC be different?

I hope they'll grow and attendances stay up as its good for the league and NZ football, but that remains to be seen.

Yeah I think Kosta and Rufer would both start (Rufer and Verstraete would be interesting - despite how good Verstraete’s been, I still think 23/24 Rufer was better). Aside from that, it’s not particularly close in any position I don’t think, unfortunately

That plus the police & FA, coming down tougher on things like flares etc. That pissed off the RBB.

Do they even do the Poznań anymore? It used to look awesome through the TV back in the day.

01 Feb 18:09
Ownership issues, policing issues, the move away from Parramatta whilst building the new Stadium & the poor results since have all played a part in the drop off in WSW's fan base.

In 5 years time, the crowds might have leveled off but they will never get down to the NZ Knights levels. The Owners are far too invested to let that happen.
01 Feb 19:48
People complain when the Nix get a 4000 crowd. But that is 1% of Wellingtons population. 1% of Aucklands population is 17,000. What do we normally average? 6500? Thats a way better than AFC crowds on a population basis.

Not this shark again.

Why aren't the Sydney and Melbourne clubs selling out every week then? Their crowds are absolutely pathetic based on this metric.

If they axed MacArthur and WU, the attendances in the league would almost look respectable again

Tbh this kind of is a concern. Victory used to get crowds consistently north of 20k and even 30k. Sydney not far behind. Now they only get big derby crowds.
These used to be the corner stone clubs.

We’re looking at how badly everyone else is doing. But the so-called big boys aren’t that far ahead.

Adelaidies leading Perth 2 nil, 10+ minutes left.  I guess this result doesn't mean too much in the scheme of things, apart from keeping Perth 7 points back from us but shows the gulf between the top four teams and the rest.
07 Feb 08:51
Shame this crowd wasn't there for the womens game

I'm cheering for Adelaide so City are going to win.

0-0 at halftime.  Adelaide have had one shot in that half.

Remarkable improvement. With Goodwins goal, he overtakes Kosta in the golden boot race. Kosta goes to third.

I mean we have Paulsen, Crocombe and Tzanev who are all much better. There's your three in any serious NZ squad.

If we are picking a squad for a couple of friendlies and one of those three is not available, give AKH a call up. He's young with tons of potential, and will benefit from the experience.

So there is not really any situation where Sail should be called up to the national team squad anymore, barring an unprecedented injury crisis.

Three for me, and two for them.

07 Feb 19:49 · edited 07 Feb 19:49 · History
To be honest, Sail's was a kind of a keeper error that we were unwilling to forgive Josh Oluwayemi (who is still a young relatively inexperienced keeper). Someone of Ollie's experience shouldn't really make those.
He single-handedly cost Perth a win in this game.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

07 Feb 21:26
Sail suddenly became a sharke keeper when he decided to move to Perth - his form plummeted at the end of that season, he got more angry and frustrated and he has never really bounced back to where he was - the further away form the NZ team he is the better.

That's very poor from Oli, reminds me of a very similar mistake by Mark Bosnich at Man Utd back in the day
