That plane is hilarious.

Three for me, and two for them.

AFC the better side that half but unable to trouble the scorers, 0-0

It’s only his 2nd game at this level, but so far yeah is a bit of that. Otherwise he’s an exciting talent
27 Oct 04:33
No Costa no Lolley, Sydney not looking particularly special.

AFC doing a good bustling job, contesting everything and looking organised. Seems they didn't need any hints that the A League is fairly physical.

Pace, dribbling, tunnel vision

That Sydney player lucky Paulsen didn’t Jonah v Mike Catt him…

Reminds me a little bit of an inexperienced Ben Old. Willing to take take on any comer but just lacking that clinical edge. Give him a season or two and he could well be flying. Has got that electric pace and acceleration just like Oldie though.

Bugger.

Ah, well. We get to beat the top side next week, right.  I never mind Sydney getting beat.

Don't think Auckland will be scoring against us, seem to lack creativity and our defence will be too strong especially if they're just gonna cross it all game.

I think he will come right. He has looked very good in his first two games. Once he gets more used to playing at this level he will contribute more.

It’s also really good to see a local talent step up to this level.

Three for me, and two for them.

Manages to see an ankle several play phases before no one was asking for, but misses the player being Greco-Roman wrestled to the ground trying to get on the end of a cross… and to keep Sydney happy there was a wee push in the back on their number 41 before the goal…

Still happy it was Pijnaker. Gallegos seems like a mouthy piece of work, constantly asking for yellow cards.

And it nutmegs Redmayne.

Uffie been cited yet?

Totally agree about Gillion eventually coming right.

Hopefully he can pick and choose his moments - being a little more unpredictable.

Gotta say that 2 rounds in, I'm not worried by anyone else in the league atm. The Victory's first 30 mins this week was probably the scariest any team has looked so far.

You watch far more of the ALM than anyone I know RR, so that I think is good news for Nix. But caveat on today's Sydney performance was their big travel week via Japan.

I think also Auckland will have better upside than most teams through the season, being a completely new squad.

But yeah both NZ teams look good prospects for the top 6. Likes of Perth & Brisbane already look also rans.

The best thing about New Zealand teams being 1 and 2 after the opening two weeks is how much it will piss off insular Australian Twits who still believe that we don’t belong in their league.

Three for me, and two for them.

Oh yeah, it is still way to early to say we are gonna win the League, just look at what CCM did after losing their first 4 games. Teams will get better, I'm just not blown away by anyone atm.

Will be interesting to see how Auckland go on their travels to be honest. It's been a good start, with two well supported home games back to back, but I want to see how they go when they have to pack their bags and head away across the Tasman - Which has been a great leveller for many NZ sporting teams in its time.

Relatively unfavourable draw to start the season for them too - Us next week (2nd) and then they get the bye, and then there's the international break, so they don't play again until the 24th (Macarthur away) and then not back at home until November 30th against the Jets.

I know they don't get much say in it, but you'd be fuming at such a decent start, only to have 3 weeks off, and then 4 weeks between home games. That right there is a solid momentum killer, right when they would have liked to keep that party going.
27 Oct 11:04 · edited 27 Oct 22:54 · History
They will get some momentum again though hosting the Nix, for Derby 2 on Dec 7th, a week after hosting the Jets.

Unless it's a draw this weekend, one of the sides will be looking for revenge with the 2nd derby. Both teams I reckon will be in around the top 6, plus imagine both AFC and The Port will promote the hell out of hosting the Nix for the first time. Healthy section of YF going up as well.

Sydney FC was understrength against AFC.  On a better day they would have been at least a bit more effective. I don't think Auckland was a "better" team on the day and I expect Talay was simply fuming the Smurfs did not get more out of this game, rather than (what sounded like) arguing about the handballs and goals.  For Auckland, I think it is mostly the enthusiasm and some decent coaching by Corica, who knows the opposition well, carried the day.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Sydney up 1 nil against Brisbane.

Crazy how deep the Roar have fallen. There's barely no one at the stadium. All 3 stands are empty with the exception of the one with the camera on it. I remember their GF appearances and 45k in attendance. How on earth can this club be turned around?

They really need to move away from playing at the 50k capacity Suncorp. That, and put the fans on the side that the camera is facing - Like what Nix do at Sky Stadium. Makes it look very barren.

That said, good fight by Brisbane to twice come back from a goal down. Waddingham is some player, and Rafael Struick also proving he's more than just his Instagram followers too.

Just as I say that, they'll need to find another goal... Sydney 3-2.

Think I read that strangely they are financially more viable at Suncorp that they were at the much smaller Redcliffe ground. CEO Kaz Patafta (still only 36) seems to be focusing on making them more financially stable off the pitch. Bigger emphasis on local youth.

But the Roar always seem to be at loggerheads with parts of the QLD NPL community. They badly need the proposed Perry Park development to go ahead - historically QLD football's main ground.

They're between a rock and a hard place with stadiums. Dolphin stadium was just sub par in terms of match day experience. And Suncorp is far too big.

I read there's loads of problems, like the owners don't really care, lack of fan engagement, the stadium...

It's such a shame. I think the Roar are a fundamental part of the league and actually should be one of the stronger teams. They badly need a 10k rectangular stadium and maybe new owners who care to invest. They could be such a massive club...
